Solved [Random BSODs] Driver_irql_not_less_or_equal (tcpip.sys)

Hi there, new member joining here. :)

So I've been having some random unexpected BSODS in the past few weeks that I disregarded (which was stupid) until now. After looking through countless of threads of people having the same error, I still haven't found the fix for mine.

The BSODs that occur are completely random, e.g while watching youtube, playing a game, etc, but weren't very frequent until now. The error that came with them was "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal (tcpip.sys)".

I found out that it was an error with my network drivers(?) so I checked if my network drivers were all up to date and they were, but there's still random BSODs. Next I assumed it was a program causing it but I didn't know what program was.

Stuck at the moment. :/

My system information/crash files are attached.

EDIT (Update): A bit of experimenting around and it appears my laptop does not like utorrent. Upon starting/unpausing a file download, after checking, the file will stay queued and crash with the same BSOD error seconds later. Guess I'm gonna have to leave that off for a while. :/ On an extra note, I've noticed that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (I've installed this recently) automatically blocks outbound connections on utorrent. Could this be the program causing the file queues and the BSODs?

My Computer

System One

  • OS
    Windows 8 64-bit
Only 1 Windows Update installed. Most systems have 170 to 190 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it will take several trips and several reboots to get them all).

The MSINFO32 report is corrupted, please do this:
MSINFO32:
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

If you're having difficulties with the format, please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type (or copy/paste) "msinfo32 /nfo %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\TEST.NFO" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to Desktop to retrieve the TEST.NFO file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. Then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

MalwareBytes is present in at least one of the stack traces. I'd suspect that it's causing part of your problem (particularly if you have another antivirus installed). Please uninstall it to see if that helps.

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized. i5 and i7 processors can be "auto-overclocked" by using Intel's TurboBoost feature. If so, it's safe to disregard this caution.
Processor may be overclocked!
Expected Frequency: 2000
Actual Frequency: 2494
Overclock Ratio: 1.247

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Thanks for the helpful info. :)

That's strange, I thought I already had Windows Updates installed on my laptop. I also want to ask, are all of the Windows Updates necessary? I have a slow bandwidth connection at times so downloading all of them might take quite a while.

As for the MSINFO32 report, it is attached in the post, both .nfo and .txt versions.

I've just uninstalled Malwarebytes. So far, utorrent has been running perfectly fine without BSOD'ing, but I'm pretty sure the laptop had problems before I installed it, so we'll see how it goes in a few days.

On the overclock issue, I don't believe I ever knew I was overclocking the processor nor did I try to. So it's safe to assume Intel's TurboBoost is doing this and I needn't worry?

I also plan to update the four drivers you listed once my internet gets stable again.

Again, I will post back in a few days or so if the problem stops/persists.

Not all updates are necessary, but we can't tell which one's are preventing BSOD's and which are not.
Take your time downloading the updates and we'll see what happens.

I wouldn't worry about the overclock if you didn't start it. If it becomes necessary, we'll attempt to disable it later on.

These devices have problems in Device Manager:
Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface ROOT\*TEREDO\0000 This device cannot start.
Not Available ROOT\MEDIA\0000 The drivers for this device are not installed.
Not Available ROOT\MEDIA\0001 The drivers for this device are not installed.
For the first device, locate it in Device Manager (it'll have an error mark next to it), then right click on it and select "Uinstall". Reboot and check to ensure that the error hasn't returned. The other 2 seem to be some sort of audio/media device. I'd update all Dell audio and media drivers/programs available from the Dell website. I'd also update any audio/media programs that may be installed on your computer.

If this is too much to do, then I'd uninstall the devices and see if they return. If they return, then I'd disable them in Device Manager (this may tell you what program they belong to - as the program may stop working when you try to use it)

Hi again,

Sorry for the late reply, but it seems my BSODs crashes are gone. I've updated all of my drivers a while back along with about 120 updates from Windows (still obtaining more), and no problems so far.

The problem may have been just Malwarebytes all along, but whatever else it is, I'm pretty sure it's gone.

Thanks for your help. :thumb:
