So I had a VM running, some tabs open in Chrome and all of sudden the system frozen for a sec and BSODed (Driver power state failure)

Specs: ASUS N56VV S4028, Core i7 3630QM, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, 750 GB 7.2kRPM HDD, GT 750M DDR3 GPU.

Minidump in attachment. I can provide full dump file if needed. (But I have only 1 mbps connection)

Hi Plantroon & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

Please do not bump the topics as we are trying our best to help everyone around here and sometimes we get overwhelmed ;)

I have analyzed your dump files and below has been provided an analysis of the same for informative purposes :-

Code:

So, your NVIDIA Driver is causing the problems. Further more it appears that you have installed the driver from the NVIDIA Website :-
Code:
2: kd> lmvm nvlddmkmstart end module name

For laptops, it is recommended that you use the Drivers provided by your manufacturer which in this case is ASUS. Please run this **TOOL** to completely uninstall your NVIDIA Driver from the system and then restart your system.

Once it is done, please download the latest NVIDIA Driver from this **LINK** and then install it.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

Thank you! and sorry for bumping - my thread seemed to be with 0 replies while others had many and were newer than mine

Is it neccessary that I run that outdated driver? I download the newest one from ASUS by doing google search: "asus support vga" and choose the newest one - is that a problem ? :(

The one on my laptop's support page seems to not ever be updated and GPU drivers are the only ones I really care about updating as often as possible. (I upgrade others when the OS update requires it / I run into problems)

Hi Plantroon ^_^,

Don't worry, no one is ignored here :) . It is just that we work together and sometimes a thread might be left behind. But, we do not let it slip past 2 days.

I would strongly suggest you to download the driver from the link which I have provided you with. On a laptop, there are two graphics which are switchable for example during the gaming use, your GPU would fire up but during normal work operations, the integrated GPU would work. This is done to save the battery but provide performance as well where required. The laptop manufacturer provides with custom made drivers so that the switchable graphics can work.

I don't think you would see any performance degradation by installing the ASUS NVIDIA Drivers. :)

Let me know how it goes ^_^ and thanks for the rep :D

I meant the degradation coming from an older version. For example, I'd get better performance in Titanfall if I used 340.xx driver but it's just not available for my lappy :D

Damn, this is the first and the last time I got a laptop. My next PC will be either Microsoft Surface or a desktop PC made of well reviewed and tested components. On this laptop I've had so many BSODs that I haven't got on my old PC since Windows XP.

Hi Plantroon ^_^,

I am sorry for not replying as I have been busy with my exams :(

Regarding the upgrades, yes there would be some degradation but I wonder whether you would notice any difference or not.

Please mark this thread as SOLVED, if the problem has been solved ^_^
