BSOD SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (win32k.sys)

I've been getting this error more and more frequently on my new laptop. I've included the logs created with SF Diagnostic Tool following the instructions here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/92394-sf-diagnostic-tool-using-troubleshooting.html

it always seems to happen while i'm working with Max/MSP and Ableton Live, but that could easily be a coincidence as that's pretty much all i use this computer for.

It may or may not be related, but Max and Ableton themselves have been crashing a lot too. My first thought was that it might be related to a sort of "warning" that's popped up a few times since i got the computer. It comes up randomly in a custom HP window stating basically that the AC adapter/charger (that came with my computer) isn't rated high enough in some manner or another for my computer and that processing power will suffer because of it. Then it lists a url where i can buy the proper HP products they failed to provide me with. Has anyone heard of this issue with HP laptops? Does it sound like it could be the cause of my problems or would you suspect something else?

Any help greatly appreciated!

    Windows 8.1
If you bought the system from a legitimate HP retailer, then the accessories that came with it will be the appropriate one's.
To be sure that a mistake wasn't made in the packaging, visit the retailer that sold it to you and have them check it out.

If this is a new computer, then someone has messed with the setup of the system.
A new HP will come with UEFI and SecureBoot enabled out of the box - yet this one doesn't have SecureBoot enabled.
And, without SecureBoot enabled, I have to suspect that the OS was reinstalled - and that may mean that whoever reinstalled the OS didn't install the proper drivers and programs needed for the system to function properly.

Have you made the HP recovery drive/disks? If so, it may be easiest to enable SecureBoot and then reinstall Windows from the Recovery Media.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

WPRO_41_2001.sys Mon Nov 7 16:04:48 2011 (4EB847F0)
CACE Technologies WinPcap Packet Driver
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=WPRO_41_2001.sys

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

The drivers that are [DEL]struckout[/DEL] don't have updates available (AFAIK).
DO NOT delete them, just leave them be.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Thanks for the quick response. When i said the laptop was new, what i really meant was new to me. I bought it from a third party seller on amazon in like new condition and just out of warranty. They did say that they "wiped the computer of all the previous user's data", so your guess about the os being reinstalled is probably accurate.

As far as the adapter, the computer really did seem to be in basically new condition so it seems unlikely to me that the adapter had been swapped out for some less powerful one, but anything is possible. I'll have to look into its exact part number and specs. I actually just now noticed a strange sound coming from it. It's real quiet but if you put your ear right up to it you can hear a distinct "squealing" sort of noise. Like a real faint, digitized sort of tea kettle that goes away when you unplug it. So maybe it's just plain going bad?

In any case, i haven't made a recovery drive as the laptop doesn't have a cd drive and i don't have a 32gb flash drive available at the moment, so i guess i'll just start taking a look at those drivers.

Thanks for your help and i'll post back when i do!

    Windows 8.1
I looked through that list and updated what i could. They all seem to be the sort of drivers that would come installed on the system from the beginning (and therefore one would think would be compatible with windows 8, as that's what the computer came installed with, right?) except the PACE Anti Piracy one and a handful of them associated with Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes i only installed after these crashes were happening, so that rules those out. PACE is associated with Max, which quite possibly is the program causing the crashes. However i kind of doubt that it's not compatible with windows 8, unless when i installed Max it somehow downloaded (automatically) an incorrect version of PACE for my system...

I'll see if what i've updated alleviates the problem. Here are more details on what i've done so far:

Driver Reference Table - WPRO_41_2001.sys - updated via link provided. Has still crashed once since doing so (I updated this one yesterday before looking at the rest of the list.)
Driver Reference Table - WirelessButtonDriver64.sys - updated via HP Wireless Button Driver - HP ENVY 15-j032nr Notebook PC | HP® Support
Driver Reference Table - Tpkd.sys - couldn't find driver (PACE site had many 404 Page Not Found errors). This is the anti-piracy software associated with Max so it could be a suspect?

OEM's make their computers quite some time before they get to you.
So there's plenty of time for bugs to pop up and other problems (such as compatibility issues) to surface.

IMO the most likely culprits here are the WPRO_41_2001.sys driver and the Tpkd.sys driver.
The simplest test is to remove (uninstall) the programs (WinPcap and PACE) and see if the BSOD's stop.
Once you've tested that, feel free to reinstall the latest, Win8.1 compatible version of the programs (if you want to).

The outdated Intel drivers are most easily updated from the HP Support website (try using the HP Support Assistant first, it does a good job of getting most HP updates). Windows Update will also update some of these drivers - but it's less likely to update them all. Finally, once that's done, visit the HP Support website and double check the Intel drivers there (to make sure that the HP Support Assistant didn't miss anything).

As I was rechecking my work from my previous post, I noticed that the nydbweh.sys driver had no link provided. So I started to do a bit of research on it. There is no info on it with a Google search (except for this post). IMO this is suspicious (and the juhsrhl.sys driver exhibits the same results w/a Google search). I'd suggest running a couple of independent antivirus scans in order to be sure that these aren't drivers for viruses. Here's some links to some free scans (the page is older, so some of the scans may not work w/Win8): Free Online AntiMalware Resources MalwareBytes is a good program, but I like to be sure by confirming it with at least one other scan.

You may also want to search your computer for those 2 files (nydbweh.sys and juhsrhl.sys). If you find them, right click on them and select "Properties", then select the "Details" tab. Let us know what you find out about the manufacturer (and if it's related to any particular program on your system. FYI - the nydbweh.sys driver is located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers

Sorry for not responding sooner but I hadn't had any problems until just now. The drivers I did update seemed to help significantly but I did just get one crash earlier today. I will have to try doing something about Pace.
Since the last time I posted I have run various anti virus checks (due to an unrelated issue). Adwcleaner in particular found a few things but I'm not sure if either of those two files were on the list. In any case I can't find them on the computer anymore, even in C:\Windows\System32\drivers.
Thanks for your continued to help.

Zip up and upload the contents of C:\Windows\Minidump. You may have to copy it to your Desktop in order to zip it up.
We'll see what any further memory dumps may reveal.
