Persisting ntoskrnl.exe error (Win8 x64)

Hi,

So I have been getting Blue screens on and off for a fair time now ( few months ) from once per week to multiple times per day. I have been trying to fix the problem for a fair while but I feel I am getting nowhere in which the frequency of the blue screens doesn't seem to change no matter. If you can suggests more steps to take I would be deeply grateful for your help.

Thanks

Steps I have taken so far:
- cmd>sfc /scannow
This was suggested to me first and might have been a culprit to some blue screens. At first when run I would get "corrupt files found but not fixed". After spending some time trying to refresh windows 8.1 and failing (as I only had win8 key), eventually I did a clean install of windows 8 (and still having the same message). I have since acquired a windows 8.1 key and used that to refresh windows, and now the message is from sfc when run is "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations". So all good I hope.

- Windows memory test
So I ran this and had no errors. I can attach log files if you can tell me where they are as I am unsure where to find them.

- cmd>verifier
I have recently tried that with no crashes ( I think I set it up correctly and when I rebooted it booted normally to windows following steps here : https://www.wiknix.com/fix-ntoskrnl-exe-blue-screen-of-death-bsod-error/). Also can attach log files but I am unsure where to find them.

- Moved graphics card slot
So I was suggested to move my graphics card down one slot on my motherboard in case there was a dodgy connection, but this didn't work

I have attached the output from the SF Diagnostic tool and also an additional text file generated from WhoCrashed with some additional information. I hope this helps

There's only 1 memory dump in the uploaded files. Please check in C:\Windows\Minidump and zip up the contents to upload with your next post. If using a drive cleaner (such as CCleaner), please stop while we're troubleshooting.

Your BIOS dates from 2011. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard. If possible, use the "inside Windows" flash mechanism (if your OEM provides one).

Only 6 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 70 to 90 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Don't worry about the specific number, it's just important that you have checked and installed any updates that were available (and didn't experience any errors).

You have a 150Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n Nano USB Adapter:
I do not recommend using wireless USB network devices. Especially in Win8/8.1 systems.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7 and later - using Vista drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
Should you want to keep using these devices, be sure to have Win8/8.1 drivers - DO NOT use Vista drivers!!!
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

The drivers that are [DEL]struckout[/DEL] don't have updates available (AFAIK).

Update your nVidia video drivers to the latest, Win8.1 compatible version as the NvStreamKms.sys driver comes from a period (early 2014) where there were BSOD's caused by it. If unable to update it, post back and we'll see about disabling the service.

This information is very useful, I will get on and do as much of this as possible - should I set the thread to solved until my next blue screen and change the status of this thread back to open(if that is possible)? Also I am quite wary of flashing my BIOS as you say it is unforgiving and I have not done it before. I will try this as a last resort if I get a blue screen once I have done all the other steps. With regard to deleting the struckout drivers, I assume I also uninstall the program rather than just delete them. Concerning the nvidia driver, I use nvidia geforce experience and it tells me that it fetches the latest driver for me so it is interesting to find out that it maybe isn't. I will search their website manually for the drivers. Also you mention disabling the service - what does this involve, would that render my Graphics card useless on my PC setup?
Thanks!
On more of a side note - is there anyway that I can help support this forum?

Don't set it solved until you think it's solved. Sometimes it takes a while to get the BSOD's stopped.

Flashing the UEFI/BIOS from within Windows is usually safe. There'll be a program related to updating on the system - on Asus systems it's usually Asus Live Update. Flashing the UEFI/BIOS from outside of Windows is where problems sometimes happen.

DO NOT DELETE THE [DEL]STRUCKOUT[/DEL] DRIVERS!!!!
FYI - it's never a good idea to just delete drivers. I always recommend that you remove them by uninstalling the program.
There are ways to remove a driver without uninstalling the program, but it can render the system unbootable (so I don't encourage it).

Disabling the nVidia Streaming Kernel Service won't render the Graphics card useless. It's an advanced feature on the nVidia cards, and the card will work just fine without it (AFAIK - I don't have an nVidia card on my system). Here's all of the info that I have about this driver:
From a previous post of mine (located here: http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...artup-lid-closed-dpc-watchdog.html#post379761 ):
..... NvStreamKms.sys - an nVidia driver that belongs to the nVidia Streaming Kernel service.
Check this post out for a possible fix: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/573811/nvidia-streamer-service-may-be-freezing-your-pc/
Or, you may want to uninstall the nVidia drivers and then install a fresh copy without the Streaming Kernel Service (I'm not familiar with nVidia drivers, so I don't even know if this is possible).

As for helping support the forum, just continue to post here.
Offer opinions on subjects that you may know a bit about.
Study the responses of others, and then help others with that knowledge.
That's how I got started. The true spirit of the online communities is "paying it forward".
Good luck!

I haven't had a blue screen in a week now which is really hopeful!
I just have a few general questions before I mark this as solved if you could answer would be great.

- In the process of updating drivers I ended up having to install what I would consider useless programs such as "Microsoft mouse and keyboard center". Is there a way to get rid of this software and keep the updated drivers?

- I also found a few drivers that I was unsure on how to update such as Kaspersky, would you recommend that when I finish my current subscription to change to a well supported (in relation to drivers) antivirus software?

- I looked into updating my bios through some asus software, either it didn't work or my motherboard wasn't supported. Anyway I searched it up and for my motherboard people recommend using a USB instead. More as a future reference to if the problem comes back in the future what is the likelihood for a typical blue screen error to be caused by the motherboard?

- Since I removed Geforce Experience and the other junk that came with it, I now how to manually update graphics drivers. I am not that bothered updating them very often, however do you think it will be a problem if I don't?

On a side note I have now moved to power-line adapter for networking as I wasn't receiving a particularly great signal anyway. Much better!

Thanks for your time - I really appreciate it!

It shouldn't be an issue of not updating your graphics driver. If you do start to have issues a simple way of seeing if it's the problem is that, actually updating the graphic driver.

All anti virus software have their own pros and cons, and not a single one will catch every little thing that comes through.Realistically and reputable wise though Kaspersky is in the top no questions asked. I would advise you to stay with Kasersky. Contact their customer service for further questions on how to stay fully up to date with their software. Their service is top notch as well so I don't foresee issues with that.

You should be able to remove the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard stuff from Control Panel...Programs and Features.
If you need some (but not all) of the features that the program offers - then you're stuck with it (I use Logitech SetPoint software for the ability to go "Back" with my center button - so I'm stuck with the rest of it's "junk").

First off, age of a driver isn't a very precise way to determine compatibility - so it may not be a problem. I use it because it's easily available and it gives us something to check for.

As for Kaspersky, if you like it you can get program updates from this link (in the US): Software Upgrades That's where we get the updates when I upgrade it at work.
As loveand power states, it's one of the best antivirus/internet security apps available.
When asked, it's the "pay for" solution that I recommend.

Updating drivers may/may not be necessary (I don't see a lot of problems at work due to outdated drivers) - but they are essential when it comes to BSOD issues. I'd post over in the Graphics Cards forum for more expert advice on this: Graphic Cards - Windows 8 Forums

NOTE: I am having severe issues with my mouse and/or keyboard software or hardware. Please excuse any mistakes that may appear.

Please update your BIOS. From this page: Motherboards - P8Z68-V PRO - ASUS
there are approximately 5 later versions of your BIOS

There are a total 4 different memory dumps. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- missing Windows Updates
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers), older systems, or even pirated systems
- low-le driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

Please get a head start on the hardware diagnostics - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :
