Hi,

So I encountered this BSOD this afternoon out of nowhere. I was doing nothing at that time. Then I want to listen to music through my earpiece so I unplugged my USB headset first then plug in my 3.5mm combined jack earpiece. It hangs then bluescreen appears

I understand that this is a very important problem for you and that you'd like it solved as soon as is possible. But there are other circumstances that you may not be aware of. Please read this pinned topic about waiting for a response: http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-crashes-debugging/48165-have-you-been-waiting-response.html

Beyond this, as there was only 1 memory dump in the upload, I have these 3 suggestions:
1. Get ALL available Windows Updates. It may take several trips to get them all
2. Start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
3. If all of the hardware tests pass, then run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

If using a drive cleaner (such as CCleaner), please stop while we're troubleshooting.

Only 144 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 170 to 190 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Many, many Live Kernel Events in the WER section of MSINFO32, Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here: Windows Kernel event ID 41 error "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first" in Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

From your description of the problem and the date of your audio drivers (CM10864.sys Thu Aug 12 06:26:14 2010 (4C63CC46) ) - I'd have to suspect that your audio drivers aren't compatible w/Win8. Please update them to the latest, Win8 compatible version immediately.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

DO NOT UNINSTALL this program if you can't find an update:

LENOVO ATK Hotkey ATK0101 ACPI UTILITY (also found in Asus systems)

This one MUST be updated or uninstalled:

C-Media sound driver

DO NOT UNINSTALL this program if you can't find an update:

ATK WMIACPI Utility

Uninstall this one if you can't find an update for it:

AiCharger.sys Thu Sep 22 22:04:40 2011 (4E7BE938)
Asus Charger Driver [br] Likely BSOD cause - haven't seen recently (15Jan2013)
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=AiCharger.sys

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

The drivers that are [DEL]struckout[/DEL] don't have updates available (AFAIK).

You must update your Bluetooth drivers to the latest, Win8.1 compatible version. Win8 versions are prone to BSOD's in Win8.1 systems.

Hey thanks for the help. My thread went to page 2 without reply so I thought no one will have a look, that's why I bump. Sorry.

So attached is the Admin.evtx

Thank god the BSOD didn't happen again but I think the cause is outdated audio drivers? I'll try find the update. Regarding my Windows Update, there is no available updates, even the optional ones, last checked today so I don't know why my computer has less updates than the normal ones :S

Don't worry about the bump, I just included the explanation so you could see a bit more of what we're doing here (and that bumps actually make it longer until someone gets to your topic).

Each system is different, so you can expect a different number of updates on each system.
The point here is to make sure that you check (and get) ALL available updates.

Just FYI - here's how I do BSOD analysis':
- first I rule out 3rd party drivers (over 90% of BSOD's are due to this)
- then I rule out hardware (less than 10% of BSOD's are due to this)
- then I look at Windows problems (less than 1% of BSOD's are due to this - as long as Windows Updates are fully up to date).
Note the comment about Windows - if the updates weren't done, the % would likely be a lot higher.

Here's some suggestions:
- update your UEFI/BIOS from the manufacturer's website. Use the tool from within Windows to do this (if possible) - on Asus computers this is usually Asus Live Update. If not available there, then check the Asus website for updates
- Lot's of errors with the Bonjour service. Uninstall Bonjour (and iTunes). Reboot and download/install a fresh copy from Apple if you'd like.
- nVStream Service had a problem - even though you have the most updated version.
I'd suggest removing the nVidia stuff from your system.
Then download and install the latest version available from Asus for your nVidia video card.
