Solved Windows 8.1 Pro cold boot BSOD, system thread exception

Hi,

Recently upgraded my PC from AMD to Intel, i.e I went from an 8350 to a 4790k. Obviously, the motherboard was changed and the upgrade went very well, no issues at all. (Maximus VII Ranger).

However, about 2 weeks after the upgrade I started having this issue, when I boot from cold I get a BSOD 1/2 times in which the error message is displayed off screen. The text reads as far as 'Search online for System Thread Exception...' and then goes off screen which tells me that once I am into Windows, my resolution is at less than the native 1080p.

Once the PC has restarted itself, it goes through usual boot and works fine. No errors, no crashes. I can proceed to play Battlefield 4 for several hours.

What could cause this? I'm running out of ideas, I've uninstalled my latest beta graphics driver and reinstalled the older stable 14.6 release candidate which had no effect. I have all of the dump files and can upload them upon request if necessary. Using BlueScreen viewer it is evident that each BSOD has been caused by a separate driver, I have had 5 of them so far, one of which lost its minidump.

Please follow the below steps, one step at a time :-

  1. Please remove any software associated with the WinRing (Driver Highlighted In Red) Libraries as they are known to cause problems and BSOD's.
  2. According to the dump files, the ATI driver (Driver Highlighted in GREEN) was blamed. Please run this **TOOL** and clean up your ATI Driver Installation. Once it is done, please download the latest ATI Driver package from your system's manufacturer i.e. ASUS and then install it. See if the crashes still occur or not.
  3. Please remove any ASUS Bloatware (Drivers highlighted in BLUE) present on the system as they are known to cause problems.
  4. Please remove the "AODDriver2.sys" (Driver Highlighted in Orange) as it is also known to cause the issues.
AMD Overdrive; also in EasyTune6 for Gigabyte motherboard
    Known BSOD issues in Win7

    Part of AMD Fuel

    Location: C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Fuel\amd64\AODDriver2.sys
  5. Please update the rest of the Drivers highlighted in BLACK & BOLD.

Let me know how it goes ^_^

Okay I've reinstalled my graphics drivers using DDU as well as uninstalling ASUS AI Suite III Dual Processors. Seems to be okay, I think it may be fixed. Thanks for your help.
