My Computer

System One

  • OS
    windows 8.1
Only 51 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 70 to 90 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Don't worry about the specific number, it's just important that you have checked and installed any updates that were available (and didn't experience any errors).

This device is disabled. Is this deliberate? If so, why?
ASUS PCE-N15 11n Wireless LAN PCI-E Card PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8178&SUBSYS_84B61043&REV_01\4&1F4358D8&0&00E6 This device is disabled.
If you're not using it I would suggest uninstalling it's software and removing it from your system. If you need it, then you must re-enable it and update it's drivers. Feel free to re-disable it AFTER you've updated the drivers to the latest, Win8.1 compatible drivers.

Out of 3 memory dumps there were 3 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device) - one of the memory dumps stated that this was a problem.
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- missing Windows Updates
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers), older systems, or even pirated systems
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

Uninstall SuperAntiSpyware. It's drivers date from 2011, before Win8 or 8.1 was released.

Check to ensure that your version of WinDivert is compatible w/Win8.1 AFAIS (As Far As I See), it's only compatible w/Win8 No mention is made of 8.1 If your research comes up with the same thing - then uninstall it.

Uninstall Kaspersky as some of it's drivers are older and it's all over the memory dump. Save your license info when uninstalling it (so you can reinstall it easily after we've finished troubleshooting). Enable Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall once the Kaspersky is uninstalled.

Beyond this, I have these 3 suggestions:
1. Get ALL available Windows Updates. It may take several trips to get them all
2. Start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
3. If all of the hardware tests pass, then run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Did you also physically remove the wireless card from the system?

Overclocks can degrade over time (or can make a hardware problem even worse). That's one of the reasons why we suggest stopping it while we're troubleshooting.
Feel free to resume the overclock once we've finished troubleshooting.

You can reinstall the latest, Win8.1 compatible versions of Kaspersky and SuperAntiSpyware once we're finished troubleshooting and the system is stable again.

Event 551 shows an error with EventID 41 - this is Windows' way of telling us that it doesn't know why the system shut down. The upload you made doesn't include the rest of the reports.

Please zip up and upload the contents of the C:\Windows\Minidump directory. You may have to copy it to your Desktop in order to zip it up.

Please also do the following:
MSINFO32:
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

If you're having difficulties with the format, please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type (or copy/paste) "msinfo32 /nfo %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\TEST.NFO" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to Desktop to retrieve the TEST.NFO file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. Then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

well this time the minidump folder is empty
unable to produce a minidump

My Computer

System One

  • OS
    windows 8.1
BlueScreenView shows a minidump dated from 31August in the minidump folder.
Yet the event viewer shows that the system was unable to produce a minidump from the full dump file.
Please navigate to C:\Windows and locate the MEMORY.dmp file. Zip it up and upload it to a free file-hosting service. Post a link to it here (so we can download it).

The event viewer shows that it was a STOP 0x50 error - so the next step will be to run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Be aware that, should the system not be able to generate minidumps, it will overwrite the MEMORY.dmp file with each crash (so if you wish to save them, you'll have to rename them each time the system crashes).

More to follow when I analyze the MSINFO32.nfo file
I'm late for work and still have to catch my cat to give it it's shot (it's diabetic).
I'll post back as soon as I can.

Sorry for the delay, lot's of life problems got in the way last night.

These devices have problems in Device Manager:
Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) USB\VID_0000&PID_0002\5&116D00FB&0&12 This device is working properly.

Not Available ROOT\NET\0000 The drivers for this device are not installed.

ASUS PCE-N15 11n Wireless LAN PCI-E Card PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8178&SUBSYS_84B61043&REV_01\4&1F4358D8&0&00E6 This device is disabled.
Please let us know what the USB device are that are attached to your system. Another option is to uninstall the Unknown USB Device and the ROOT\NET\0000 device (in Device Manager) and then reboot and see if they come back.

If you're not using the Asus wireless LAN card, I'd suggest uninstalling it's software and then physically removing the device from your system. If you want to keep it, then enable it and update it's drivers. Once it's updated, feel free to disable it again.

The BSOD on 27 Aug was a STOP 0xFC and it blames a Windows driver (volsnap.sys)
The BSOD on 29 Aug was a STOP 0x3B and it blames your video card driver (atikmpag.sys)
Previous BSOD's were 0xA; 0xD1 and 0xFC - and at least one of them directly blamed hardware
As such, we need to concentrate on the hardware issues that we've identified previously.

I can see from the MSINFO32 report that you've done some of the diagnostics.
Have you completed them all? Did all of them pass?

well the memory.dmp zip is larger than what the website allows, so i uploaded it to mega, and here is another screenshot of recent crashes.

Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here: Windows Kernel event ID 41 error "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first" in Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2 I saw one of these in the Event Viewer log that you posted

Please answer my questions in Post #17: http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-crashes-debugging/52677-windows-8-crashes-2.html#post423054
This was about the USB devices connected to your system and the results of the diagnostics tests.

It appears that you have a wireless USB modem of some sort - and the drivers for that device date from 2010/11
They must be updated to the latest, Win8.1 compatible version from the carrier's website.

Beyond this, as there was only 1 memory dump in the upload, I have these 3 suggestions:
1. Get ALL available Windows Updates. It may take several trips to get them all (it appears that the Windows drivers on this system are outdated - secdrv.sys dates from 2006)
2. Start with running Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings (this sort of error (STOP 0xA) usually responds well to Driver Verifier)
3. Please also try these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics Let us know the results (as I suspect some hardware problems that I addressed in a previous post).

Here's the output from the debugger on the memory dump that you uploaded:
