Hey!

Just updated to the latest stable nVidia drivers the other day, and since I've gotten 3 BSOD while playing WoW citing a DPC_Watchdog_Violation. Right before the BSOD, the game would minimize to the tray a few times before the actual BSOD occured. Maybe I need to roll back? Not sure, but I've attached the dump zip.

I do not recommend using wireless USB network devices. Especially in Win8/8.1 systems.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7 and later - using Vista drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
Should you want to keep using these devices, be sure to have Win8/8.1 drivers - DO NOT use Vista drivers!!!
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.

These drivers aren't installed:
SM Bus Controller PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8CA2&SUBSYS_85341043&REV_00\3&11583659&0&FB The drivers for this device are not installed.
Ethernet Controller PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15A1&SUBSYS_85C41043&REV_00\3&11583659&0&C8 The drivers for this device are not installed.
PCI Simple Communications Controller PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8CBA&SUBSYS_85341043&REV_00\3&11583659&0&B0 The drivers for this device are not installed.
Please visit the Asus website and install the latest, Win8.1 compatible drivers for your system. In particular install the chipset, card reader, and wired ethernet card drivers

Please remove UltraUXThemePatcher while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to reinstall the latest, Win8.1 compatible version AFTER we've finished troubleshooting.

Looking a bit like hardware (?maybe overheating?). Please do this:
Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here: Windows Kernel event ID 41 error "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first" in Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Beyond this, I have these 3 suggestions:
1. Get ALL available Windows Updates. It may take several trips to get them all
2. Start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
3. If all of the hardware tests pass, then run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

From a previous post of mine (located here: http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...artup-lid-closed-dpc-watchdog.html#post379761 ):
..... NvStreamKms.sys - an nVidia driver that belongs to the nVidia Streaming Kernel service.
Check this post out for a possible fix: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/573811/nvidia-streamer-service-may-be-freezing-your-pc/
Or, you may want to uninstall the nVidia drivers and then install a fresh copy without the Streaming Kernel Service (I'm not familiar with nVidia drivers, so I don't even know if this is possible).
I don't think that this is your problem, but offer it as an option to rule out the nVidia Streaming Kernel service.

Hello, thanks for the detailed response!

I've removed the UltraUXThemePatcher from the system and installed the latest compatible drivers from the Asus website for the unknown devices, so that's all set there.

Attached is the custom view from Event Viewer.

I'm currently monitoring temperatures, everything seems to be hovering between 20-40C.

edit: Also, I've stopped the nVidia streaming service from running per your link.

I can't tell if it's hardware or software from the Admin Event Log. The errors in your Admin Event Log point mainly to the video drivers/hardware - but there are a significant number of errors for your Intel wired network drivers also.

Download a fresh copy of the latest, Win8.1 compatible nVidia video drivers and the latest, Win8.1 compatible Intel wired networking drivers from the Asus website.
Then uninstall the current nVidia video drivers and the the Intel wired network drivers
Then install the freshly downloaded drivers
Monitor for further BSOD's

There's something interesting here. The reports don't list the Intel wired networking device as being on your system - yet the drivers for this device are loading. Do you have any idea of why this is happening?\

If you wish to disable the Intel wired networking device, please:
- uninstall the drivers/software for the Intel wired device
- then disable the wired ethernet connections in the UEFI/BIOS

Hey usasma!

I've found an updated version of the nVidia driver. I think I might've screwed this up and caused my issue by downloading the Windows 8 x64 driver instead of 8.1. There's a July 29 revision on the nVidia website that I swear I didn't see before. I've uninstalled the previous driver and installed the latest 8.1 version.

I've also uninstalled the Intel wired networking driver and disabled the connection in the BIOS. I'll monitor for any BSODs and update the thread.

Thanks for your help :)

It's my suspicion that the networking device had hardware problems and that's why it loaded the driver but didn't show up in the reports. But it won't hurt to install the updated video driver either!

Good luck!
