Solved PC shuts down suddenly, reporting an error:BAD_POOL_CALLER

Hello,

I'm writing this thread because i wanted to report something that happens to my laptop.
For a start, i'm using a vaio sony mini laptop running on windows 8 whose processor is AMD E2-1800 APU with radeon(tm)HD graphics, 4 GB ram, a 64-bit OS, x64-based processor. Honestly, i don't know much about this pc, i just opened the pc info, hope it helps.

Regarding the problem i'm experiencing, i've been having sudden shut downs during my work -pc would show a sad face emotion saying that my pc has encountered a problem and needs to restart and its collecting info about the problem- concluding that i should probably search for the error so called " BAD_POOL_CALLER". And so i did, but here's what i dont understand. when my pc starts again, a message pops up saying it would send details about the problem i had to Microsoft, so they could take action. infact, i've been approving on sending those messages since 2013, and nothing happens.

These sudden shut downs have been taking place since 2013 or so, as a result, i searched alot for answers and came up with " probably an out of date driver , you must update ". i do, as a matter of fact, open the settings and click on windows update. however, after it finishes all its updates, it shuts down suddenly again. yet, i downloaded a program called " reviver driver" thinking that it would see if i had any out of date drivers, but all it says that i should update stuff about the bluetooth. i don't really think that out of date bluetooth stuff would actually cause this problem.

as far as to the SF Debug tool, i downloaded it and clicked continue so it can make a file on my desktop called sfdebugfiles.rar, i zipped it ... but it mentioned 2 errors , about a file which cannot be zipped cause another processor is using it. i chose to break the operation and closed the window, idont know if this really going to mess things up, but i hope they dont.

The best place to check for driver updates is the Sony website. The drivers on Windows Update aren't updated very often.

As for the Bluetooth drivers - there is a known problem with some Win8 bluetooth drivers having BSOD problems on Win8.1
I haven't checked yours yet, but I will tell you if I do find them to be outdated.
EDIT: You don't have Win8.1 installed, so the Bluetooth drivers most likely aren't a problem here.

Most systems have 160 to 190 or more Windows Updates. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

The reports are missing the MSINFO32.nfo report. Please do this:

MSINFO32:
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

If you're having difficulties with the format, please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type (or copy/paste) "msinfo32 /nfo %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\TEST.NFO" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to Desktop to retrieve the TEST.NFO file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. Then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

The memory dumps have a lot of Kaspersky drivers in them. Please uninstall Kaspersky. Tell it to remove everything - but be sure you've written down your registration info if you want to install it again.

It looks like you might have AVG or Avast installed also - please uninstall them also.

DO NOT INSTALL 2 antivirus' or 2 firewalls/Internet Security programs that will be running constantly on the system - they will conflict with each other and will cause problems.

Make sure that Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall are activated while testing (for protection).

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

sorry for late reply, been updating stuff.

i've uninstalled all the antiviruses in my laptop, and i have been updating my laptop ever since i read your message and it's still updating to this moment

. however, i can't seem to find the driver responsible for ew.jubusenum.sys it seems to have something to do with haewei techno, but i can't find it.

ii checked for msinfo32, idon't know what yo exactly meant by to save it as .nfo file, but i succeeded in attaching it as a zip file.

i've also checked to see if my windows defender is on and it says it's on but it needs to update and stuff, thanks for that.

as for windows update, i've checked my settings and it says that it auto installs needed updates for my pc, is that what you mean? because two days ago, i already updated. since i uninstalled alot of things and made changes to my pc, do i need to refresh and update all that all over again?

P.S. should i do something about that last driver? hiber_amd_sata.sys?

Do you have an air card or some other way of connecting to the internet through Cell Phone communications?
It's (ew_jubusenum.sys) most likely associated with your Etisalat USB modem (I got this from the MSINFO32 report). Contact them/visit their website for the must up-to-date Windows 8 compatible drivers.

You did just fine with the .nfo (that's what it was before you zipped it)

The WER section of the MSINFO32 report shows some Windows Update failures - so you need to check manually in order to ensure that you have all available updates. We need to know if you've checked and don't see any further updates available - and that you haven't been experiencing errors when checking for updates.

The hiber_amd_sata.sys file isn't a concern for several reasons:
- it's not from the latest series of memory dumps (it's actually from June) - so it's not likely that it's involved in the crashes
- if you look up higher in the list, you'll see an amd_sata.sys driver. The driver with the hiber_ prefix is one that Windows creates at boot time if hibernation is enabled. That way it can access that driver during hibernation before the amd_sata.sys driver has finished loading. The only way to update this driver is to update the amd_sata.sys driver and then reboot - causing the system to recreate the one with the hiber_ prefix (but there's no need for you to update it).

MSINFO32 shows problems with the ApxD program being related to the BSOD's.
I can't find any definite records of a program like this - but I do find a number of entries suggesting that it may be a virus.
I'd suggest:
- scanning your system with an independent anti-malware scanner (I suggest MalwareBytes AntiMalware Free Version: https://www.malwarebytes.org/downloads/ )
- if this doesn't find anything, then search your C:\ drive for "apxd" and let us know what you find.

Sorry, What do you exactly mean by an air card or cell phone communications? I got a Vodafone Mobile BroadBand, if that's what you're implying. Does " ew.jubunesum.sys" driver being associated to my modem mean that i have a haewei phone or something? cause i don't have anything related to haewei tech. co among my computers or cellphones or kind of .. umm .. anything.

how do i check manually for updates? all i know about the update thing is to open setting or check some icon on my taskbar " a flag symbol" it shows what is needed to install (normally).

thing is .. the pc has been running for about 48 hours now without any crashs and that's super ... AWESOME. haven't had this feeling since (some month) in 2013

i hope it doesn't crash while scanning for malware.

Since the system hasn't BSOD'd on you, the following is just in answer to your questions. There's no need to change anything at this point if the system no longer has a problem.

Sorry, What do you exactly mean by an air card or cell phone communications? I got a Vodafone Mobile BroadBand, if that's what you're implying. Does " ew.jubunesum.sys" driver being associated to my modem mean that i have a haewei phone or something? cause i don't have anything related to haewei tech. co among my computers or cellphones or kind of .. umm .. anything.

Yes, that is the device. The Vodafone website should have the latest version of the software/drivers for your device. The Haewei Tech drivers imply that there's a Haewei chip inside the mobile broadband device

how do i check manually for updates? all i know about the update thing is to open setting or check some icon on my taskbar " a flag symbol" it shows what is needed to install (normally).

Go to Run and type in "wuapp" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then, in the left hand sidebar there should be a link to "Check for updates". Clicking on that is how you manually check for updates

hiber_amd_sata.sys is most likely not a threat. Don't worry about it.

Above is one of the lines that contained the ApxD reference (which I highlighted in RED) That's all the evidence that I have about this problem. A Google search for "ApxD.exe" (without the quotes) turned up the references to virus' - that's why I suggest the scan (the multiple antivirus programs may have let something slip by). This may not be a virus, but the scan will make us sure of it.

From the sentence reading "The memory dumps have a lot of Kaspersky drivers in them." onwards is what I found in the minidumps.

Aha, i understand. I did as you said, the scan found some potential threats and quarantined them. It also said that the location is in the downloads " bearsetup" and " zip setup", but it didn't mention any " ApxD" -related-problem.

Anyway, i hope that thing will not cause any problem later. Thank you so much for your time and effort, i really appreciate it.

One more thing, i've always wanted to know about these bsod and errors much more than just how to fix them, but i know you don't have time to explain why this happened and why that happened. yet, i got some question not related to what i previously said

, if i installed an antivirus or let's just say this anti malware you suggested .. the trial has expired , what am i supposed to do?>

There are numerous possible causes for BSOD's, and it takes years of experience to get a feel for them.

Quite frankly, it's not worth figuring out the exact cause (unless you're a developer) - and it's not very easy. If you find that a certain instruction is writing to memory that it's not supposed to - what is the average user to do? Most people can't rewrite the program to fix that instruction.
Instead, what we do is we locate the problem areas, and then either remove or replace them - and that ends up fixing them.

If the anti-malware program expires, you have to renew it in order to get adequate protection.
If you don't renew it, then you'll need to get another anti-malware program that isn't expired.
There are pay-for and free versions out there - each depends on your needs.

Aha, i see. By the Way, you didn't reply back about that message that said " we're sending details about the problem (bsod) to Microsoft" supposing that they would take action, i sent the message. what happened? i mean why didn't they contact me or something?

and my anti-malware keeps on scanning and finding more and more potential threats everytime, should i be worried?

P.S. when i don't renew my anti malware program, should i uninstall it before i install another one who isn't expired? (like the anti-virus issue)

Microsoft collects the errors automatically. If the automated process finds a potential solution, then there'll be a notification in the Action Center advising you about it. If no potential solution is found, then there's no notification. If you have problems that are queued in Action Center (to check for solutions), then you may receive a notification later on if a potential solution is found at a later date.

FYI - If you have a full retail version of Windows, you are entitled to a certain amount of tech support from Microsoft (and you have to contact Microsoft in order to use it). But if it's an OEM copy (such as one that comes pre-installed on a new computer), then the OEM is the one who's responsible for tech support. Finally, if it turns out that the problem is 3rd party drivers or hardware - Microsoft doesn't provide free support for that. OEM's may provide support for problem hardware during the warranty period, and different 3rd party vendors/developers provide differing amounts of support (it may not be free at any time).

On a fully updated system, over 90% of the BSOD's are due to 3rd party drivers.
Less than 10% of the BSOD errors are due to hardware
And less than 1% are due to Windows (I suspect that this is much, much less than 1%)

If your security software is expired, please uninstall it. Then (immediately) download and install the latest, trusted, Win8.1 compatible version of the security software that you are going to use. Download it directly from the manufacturer's website and perform a full system scan with it once it's installed.
