Please follow the below steps, one step at a time :-

  1. Please uninstall the ATI Driver using this **TOOL** and then install the latest driver from the Dell Support Site which can be found over **HERE**.
  2. Update the highlighted Drivers.

Let me know how it goes. Also, if this occurred during a Skype Call, then see if you are still getting the BSOD if you revert back to an older version of Skype.

Hi I was unable to extract the btfilter.sys driver update from the zip folder. I went to the atheros.cz site, found my driver, and downloaded the update for it, but I receive an error when I try to extract all or click the folder.

Any ideas?

EDIT (8/23/2014 1:33pm EST)

My Bios was 2 months out of date.. working on updating that now.. May be causing problems?

Hi Caddyquinn,

Please do not create a new thread everytime you get a BSOD while your previous thread is open. I have asked to merge your new thread to this one.

I have analyzed the dump files which you provided in your new thread and below has been provided an analysis of the same for informative purposes :-

Please follow the below steps :-

  1. Please remove MalwareBytes using this **TOOL**.
  2. Please check Dell Website for your laptop model and see if there is any update available to the drivers.
  3. Please run Driver Verifier according to this **GUIDE** and make sure you let it crash for few times and then upload a freshly generated SF Diagnostic ZIP file in your next post.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

Okay I've gone and updated as many of those drivers as I could. Do you recommend disabling those drivers one by one? Dell driver verifying tool has been used many times and always says I'm up to date. I will remove MalwareBytes and try updating my drivers again.. I must be missing something here.

I've run memtest and other programs to test hardware, but can you tell from memory dumps that it's my third party drivers?

Sure thing. Keep me updated on this ^_^.

I don't think that I could point whether it is hardware problem or some third party driver at this stage. If it is a possible Hardware Fault then Driver Verifier won't give any useful results.

According to the dump files, your Atheros Wireless LAN Driver is blamed and caused the Driver Verifier to Bugcheck. Please disable the Driver Verifier as of now till we troubleshoot this issue.
Do you get the BSOD if you disable your Wireless and do not connect to it?

Please goto this **LINK** and you would find the Driver for your model. Firstly, download the driver. Once you are done downloading, goto "Device Manager" and under the Network Adapters dropdown, you would see your Wireless Network Card. Right click on that and then click on Uninstall.

Once this is done, you would lose the ability to connect to the Internet. Make sure you DO NOT restart the system. Now, install the driver package and then restart your PC.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

Hello Blueelvis,

So far today I've had no BSOD...

I've updated my Dell Wireless 1703 device and disabled it. I was going to run the computer a few days before enabling the wifi again.

What do you think is the best direction from here?

Thanks for all the help so far btw! :)

Glad to hear that you are now BSOD free. You could test for some time for BSOD's with the Wifi disabled and once you are sure, enable it and see since you have already updated the Wireless Drivers.

In case of further problem please do not hesitate to post back ^_^.

Hey BlueElvis,

Unfortunately I'm back. I didn't have any blue screens for a long while. Even ran heaven benchmark program a few times with the new AMD driver update installed. Also, played some computer games and every thing was going fine. This morning I was playing Fable for about an hour or so and it crashed. Here's the file dump!

Hi Caddyquinn ^_^,

I am sorry to hear that the BSOD returned :(

According to the Context Record, the mov instruction was given to move the contentsof rax to r9 and that is when the bugcheck happened.

Now, according to it, the "atikmdag.sys" was blamed which is the ATI Driver for your GPU.

As it appears from the Dump file, the date of the ATI Driver is an year old. There is an updated version of the ATI Driver over Dell's Website which is dated in the year 2014. I would suggest you to install it. The link to it could be found over here :-

hello blueelvis,

I unistalled and reinstalled from the link you gave me. However the date did not change for my driver. The information remained the same. I believe I already had the correct and up to date AMD driver. I will keep you updated on whether or not the BSOD keep happening.

Any other ideas in the meantime? Thanks!

Hi CaddyQuinn ^_^,

I apologize for the delayed response. I just forgot this thread <_<
Anyways, your latest dump files again blame the ATI Driver. Below has been provided an analysis :-

So according to the Callstack, the Direct X Video Scheduler Process caused the Page Fault which ultimately led to the Bugcheck. If we unassemble the function we get :-
Code:

fffff801`e5616815 488b4010 mov rax,qword ptr [rax+10h]
According to it, the bugcheck occurred when there was an instruction for adding with carry from the register R8 to RCX. Apparently, R8 contains 0000000000000001. Furthermore, the bugcheck happened during a write operation.

I would advise you to run the DDU again and then install the Latest driver from the ATI Website. If this does not help then you could try un-installing the driver again using DDU and then installing the Driver from Windows Update. The driver for your graphics card would be in the Optional Updates. Download it and then restart your system.

Furthermore, I would advise you to follow these Free Hardware Diagnostics over **HERE**.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

Hello BlueElvis,

I have run the memtest before for 10 passes and returned 0 errors. I just ran the Furmark test for 25 minutes and it never went above 70 degrees C nor did it show signs of flickering or problems.

What I did change though was my cable to my monitor. I switched from a DVI cable that has been stored away for quite some time, to an HDMI cable with a DVI to HDMI adapter.

Have you heard of DVI cables or maybe even DVI ports on the Graphics card causing BSOD?

I played Fable again (which I use to see if I get BSOD) and I didn't get a single crash while playing. (around an hour).

I will keep an eye on it and if all goes well, I may be able to say it was a bad DVI cable or port.

Thanks for all the help BlueElvis
