    Issues with USB Devices

I'm having issues with usb devices such as usb drives and my mouse. If i start my computer with these devices plugged in already, they work perfectly fine. But if I make my computer sleep, upon logging back in, none of my usb devices work. I have 2 usb 2.0 as well as 2 usb 3.0 ports, none of them work after the computer has been in sleep mode. I would appreciate any help.

You will need to run an sfc/scannow command in an elevated command prompt. If errors are found, run it twice more with each scan followed by a reboot.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - Run in Windows 8

The following drivers need to be updated:

    Code:
    amd_sata.sys Sat Apr 16 04:37:14 2011
    amd_xata.sys Sat Apr 16 04:37:17 2011
    amdhub30.sys Fri Mar 18 09:03:56 2011
    amdxhc.sys Fri Mar 18 09:03:57 2011
    AtihdW76.sys Tue Oct 18 18:09:49 2011
    cpuz135_x64.sys Wed Sep 21 18:23:41 2011
    dump_amd_sata.sys Sat Apr 16 04:37:14 2011
    hpdskflt.sys Sat May 14 04:47:02 2011
    netr28x.sys Mon Dec 12 14:22:37 2011
    Rt630x64.sys Wed Oct 19 23:12:55 2011
    stwrt64.sys Thu Mar 17 19:21:47 2011
    SynTP.sys Sat Oct 01 10:13:52 2011
These drivers can be found by searching them in Google and then finding the associated software or driver. Finally, find the latest version of this driver or software and download and install it. Some of the drivers may also be found here.

You should also update any other drivers you can think of including graphics, audio, chipset etc.

Make sure all Windows updates are installed including the latest Service Pack.

I'm honestly a little confused how the issue in the thread at the link below has been resolved, but the driver date is still the same in this thread. (Are you sure you updated the drivers from AMD? Check again for the correct download.)

    Excellent post JaidynM.

Other than that, the device manager properties can be checked for the USB devices. In the Power Management tab for each, you can uncheck the box to allow Windows to turn off the devices to save power.

But first and foremost as JaidynM has shown, updates are the first way to go about things if they are available.

Latest crash dump shown from this thread:

If you need help finding the correct chipset drivers, please tell us which motherboard you have. If you don't know, type msinfo32 in the start menu and press enter. It will tell you on the System Model line.

I'm really not entirely sure myself. It turns out amd had released a graphic's driver specifically for windows 8, which i downloaded and installed about 2 days ago. That issue has been somewhat resolved, but it still occurs for some reason every now and then. I also noticed that windows update always attempts to install and amd graphics driver of its own but always fails. Maybe it could be that windows update is installing and older version of the amd catalyst driver. But in the mean time i'll follow JaidynM's directions and try to resolve this issue.

heh heh - nah - we're not talking video drivers. We are referring to the chipset drivers. Please follow my previous post and then I'll provide a direct link to what you should install to fix the machine.

I was unable to identify the motherboard, most likely because its a laptop. It displayed "System Model HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC" I've already downloaded the latest HP drivers, problem is there not exactly new. The laptop model is the DV6-6108us, if that helps.

Alright, from what I gather, your machine does not even have an AMD storage port or chipset. That's probably the reason for the bsods and other problems.

Reference: HP Pavilion dv6-6108us Drivers for Windows XP-Vista | DriversTag

    1) Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename amd_xata.sys to amd_xata.bak

    2) Install this:

Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver HP Pavilion dv6-6108us Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

    3) Reboot and then run CCleaner to clean the registry.

    4) Please keep us updated on how it went and is going. If you have an issue getting back to Windows (I don't think you will) - then boot to safe mode and rename the AMD driver to the original .sys name.

More information here. My last post was great to follow so still please do.

It is my belief that amd_xata.sys is malware/virus and that is why it is on your machine to begin with.
If you upload amd_xata.bak (renamed already as instructed) to Jotti's malware scan, I am betting it will say infected.

In this case, it is my highest recommendation to low-level format the HDD with this:

Erase hard drive by Active@ KillDisk. Low Level Format.

And then re-install Windows 8 after.

First though, see what jotti says. If it is malware, it is of the particularly nasty type and a low-level format is necessary for the future security and stability of your machine.

If the file is clean though, then you should already be alright with everything.

    I think it's malware for 4 reasons:

    1) The real AMD driver is amdxata.sys

    2) Only one hit in Google for this, besides here, which is strange:

    https://encrypted.google.com/search?...t=firefox-beta

    3) You don't have AMD chipset

    4) AMD drivers do not generally bsod.

After renaming that driver my computer was unable to reboot, even while in safe mode. It would bsod immediately. I had to log into windows 7 and change it back.
