I just scanned the file on Jotti's malware scan and no malware was found.

That's good news and good thinking on your part.

I just downloaded like 3 or 4 different AMD chipset packages and actually found the amd_xata.sys driver with a date of 12/12/11.

I still don't understand how or why you have that on the machine, because everything I find says you have an Intel chipset.

Regardless, if you install this, it will update the driver to 12/12/11 - reboot - you can then check the driver file's properties to see that it's modified date has been changed to 12/12/11 in C:\Windows\System32\drivers

If not, you can manually copy it there from the extracted folder the installer makes at C:\AMD

You may also want to do a full system scan using Malwarebytes, just in case Jotti missed something.

I found a page that claims it might be the AMD 780G chipset (by reading the Google information about the site), but when you go onto it, the reference isn't easily found and there are all sorts of threads - I am guessing that Google indexed those threads and attached it to the page. Long story short - it's what I just saw and can't paste a link to it lol.

But if that is true, the link in my last post will work great. I also read the changelog for the driver. Much good stuff like many updates to performance and things like that.

So, here's to hoping your machine is going well now and no more bsods. If you still have a problem with the USB stuff, install the driver for it that I linked to on the previous page. That's from HP's own website itself.

I can confirm that the last driver fixed the problem. Also, sleeping, rebooting and shutting down no longer hangs the computer or produces bsods. Thank you both for all of your help and diligence. I honestly didn't think I'd get such good help so quickly, but i really appreciate it.

That's good to hear! Now enjoy the machine. You're welcome. And of course, feel free to participate in the rest of the site and stay around.
