BSOD - need help identifying cause.

I'm trying to get the PC stable - currently, I'm using this as a media PC and using some software (DVBLogic) which isn't running properly. I'm trying to do a health check and track down any causes (the DVBLogic service hangs after a resume from standby).

There was an error which said memory was being corrupted after a resume which could be the cause (Event ID 12) "The platform firmware has corrupted memory across the previous power transition. Please check for updated firmware for your system".

Well, this is an Asus P5E so the chances of Asus doing squat about that are remote. I switched the system to use hibernation instead of suspend to ram, and that "appears" to have cured that error [EDIT: No, it didn't cure it, it's done it again today after a resume from hibernation]. However, the problem with the DVBLogic service persists.

I'm not sure if the motherboard is 100% Win 8.1 compatible and I've gotten one BSODs running driver verifier.

The uploaded log file from DM Log Collector is attached.

Appreciate any help with this.

EDIT: Apologies, I started on the sevenforums and used DM Collector, have uploaded the SF Log files as well.

Now, the Driver Verifier has blamed the KS.sys which is the Kernel Streaming Driver from Windows and since it is a Windows component, chance of it being at fault is extremely less. This means something else (Media Related) is causing the problem. Please follow the steps below, one step at a time :-

  1. It appears that there are two TV TUNER drivers present on the system and both of them are outdated. Using Windows 7/Vista drivers with Windows 8.1 will most likely result in a BSOD. I would suggest you to update the drivers for both the DVB Link Tuner & TBS Tuner. If you have only one device then please uninstall the other driver.
  2. Please check if there is any update for the ASACPI.sys by ASUS or Windows (Windows Update).
  3. Update your system fully with Windows Update. Do note that it might take several trips to get all the updates.
  4. If the problem still persists, please see if the problem is solved on removing the TV Tuner card physically from the system.
  5. Your system has got a BIOS dated from 2009 which is extremely old. See if there is any update to it from ASUS. Please do note that flashing the BIOS is a very risky process and even a small mistake could brick your system making it un-repairable!

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

Thanks for getting back. I think I'm going to have to give up on Win8 for this build and revert to Windows 7.

There are two tv tuners installed and in use (1 x satellite, 1 x terrestrial). They are fairly old devices now, and there isn't going to be any official Win 8 drivers. I always check before a build for the latest drivers, but missed what appears to be a newer version for the TBS6284 which allegedly fixes an issue with resuming from standby. Curious....might give it one final try before I go back to Win 7!

The BIOS is old, as is the motherboard now - Asus have got zero intention of releasing any more BIOS updates for it. I did actually go ahead with flashing the Rampage Formula BIOS onto the board (they are all the same PCB with different BIOS and extras like additional LAN ports), but to no better result, the memory corruption event id 12 appears still upon resume from standby. I traced it down to using S3 for standby - using S1 results in lesser power savings (and annoying fans still spinning around), but no memory corruption after resume.

Thanks again.

You could always try to remove both the TV Tuner cards to see if they are the cause of BSOD's or not. But downgrading to Windows 7 would be the best option according to me since the old BIOS and my guess would be that the TV Tuners worked fine in Windows 7?

Let me know how it goes on updating them though like you mentioned ^_^.
