Random BSOD on desktop

1. #21

I just had another BSOD which I can confirm cause I saw the screen but I had pressed the power button thinking it was another freeze so my PC shut down before it could make a dump file but I definitely saw Windows 8 BSOD screen. It happen when I just started playing Civ 5 and was only like 10 minutes into it just like CS:GO

This had lead me to think that it has something to do with my graphic card since Prime95 did not give me any BSOD, I am now updating my nvidia driver for the first time since I refreshed because I wanted to know what the problem was exactly.

Once updated I'll play a few more games and see if I get any BSOD, if i do I'll send you the diagnosis straight away

I hope you guys can find the problem. Thanks!

I saw multiple Disk I/O errors during the Paging operations and other normal operations. Please remove any Western Digital Software you have installed on your system. Once it is uninstalled, please do a system wide manual search for "wdcsam64.sys" and then rename it to "wdcsam64.bak". Once this is done, restart your system and do the search again to make sure that the file is not re-generated.

If this still does not fix your problem, please perform Hard Drive Diagnostics using **THIS** as there are many errors in the Event Log related to I/O.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

That was the problem I had in previous BSOD whcih I then took out my internal WD hard drive but I still use My Book whcih is only one month old, for my gaming which explains why it only crashes when I am playing games that are installed in my My Book.

I tried searching for wdcsam64.sys but it doesn't show anything and also I went to control panel to try and find any WD program without any success. Is there any other way to search for files in Windows 8.1.

Thanks!

Hi Chee006 ^_^,

Could you please verify first if you detach the My Book, if you are still getting the BSOD's or not? You could try installing the games on some disk other than Western Digital and checking if the BSOD's occur or not. Once you are sure, please ollow the below advice :-

"
1. Open the RUN dialog box by pressing the Win Key(Start Button on your keyboard) and R together to open the Run Prompt. Type in there ="services.msc".
2. A Services Window would be opened.
3. See if you could find any services which are related to Western Digital or the wdcsam64.sys.
4. Once, they are found, please right click on them and then click on Properties.
5. Under the Startup Type Dropdown menu , select Disabled.
6. Do this for every service which you find related to Western Digital. Once it is done, make sure the driver files are renamed (if present) and then restart the system.

"

Let me know how it goes ^_^

i have not detach the My Book as it it's the only external hardrive I have right now (aside from mySamsung EVO 840 125GB SSD) with all of my media content and I only bought it like 1 month ago . I played CS:Go just now without any BSOD but can you tell me why i need to find files that are related to Gigabyte cause I dun think I have any hardware that is of Gigabyte brand.

Also my CS:Go is installed on my SSD but Steam could have created some files on MY Book as well.

I did the search on services.msc but I can't find any program that has the word western digital at all.

Thanks!

Oops. I copy pasted that from my post on another thread <_<.

I meant the services related to Western Digital. I have edited my original post to reflect that. Also, could you please perform these Hard Drive Diagnostics :-
Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure

Could you also please open up the Services.msc -> Action -> Export List and then attach the Text File in your next post so that I could check it out?

Hi sorry for the late reply but I was bust because my father had just passed away. I also experience another freeze and what I would assume to be another BSOD while watching youtube video, unfortunately it did not make any dumpfiles as I just restarted the PC because it was frozen for too long. However I have attached the exported list which you have requested.

I have run various drive test on MY Book but it's clean. So I am really confused still as to what the problem is, but bear in mind that I have installed some WD utilities drivers to see if it solve the problem since my last post. If this persists I may just revert back to windows 7 again.

Thanks

First of all, my condolences. It must have been very sad moment so I am really sorry for that.

And, once again I apologize for replying late as I was busy with university.

I have analyzed the report and according to it, there are Western Digital Services running which are creating the driver. We need to make sure that this is not the actual problem. Please follow this guide -
1. Open the RUN dialog box by pressing the Win Key(Start Button on your keyboard) and R together to open the Run Prompt. Type in there ="services.msc".
2. A Services Window would be opened.
3. See if you could find services named "WD Backup" & "WD Drive Manager".
4. Once, they are found, please right click on them and then click on Properties.
5. Under the Startup Type Dropdown menu , select Disabled.
6. Do this for services named "WD Backup" & "WD Drive Manager". Once it is done, make sure the driver files are renamed (if present) and then restart the system.
If this does not still solve your problem, please start with these Hardware Diagnostics over **HERE** and report back with the results.

Let me know how it goes ^_^
