Windows 8.1 gets BSOD during startup/restarting

I'm running on a Windows 8.1 OS, and recently it keeps getting BSODs before starting up/restarting, but it still manages to get into Windows, and it seems to run normally after that. The error message is something like PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (rtwlane.sys). I have uploaded a minidump file of the most recent BSOD on my OneDrive here. Hope to be able to solve this issue ASAP. Thanks for your attention!

Please follow the below steps :-

  1. The driver highlighted in BLUE is known to cause BSOD's on systems. It is associated with MSI Afterburner/MSI Live Update 5. Please uninstall these software.
  2. According to the dump file, the problem was caused by the "rtwlane.sys" (Driver highlighted in RED) which is your Realtek PCI-E Wireless LAN NIC NDIS Driver. Please find an updated version for this driver either through MSI or Realtek.
  3. Could you please search for the driver highlighted in ORANGE in your system and report back with what it is associated with?
  4. If you are still facing problems then please follow the
[h=3]Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions[/h]and post back your freshly generated SF Diagnostic File.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

Hi blueelvis,

Thank you for your prompt response. Unfortunately, I am not very well versed with computer programming, so I may not have been able to follow your listed instructions completely.

Anyways, here is what I did:
1. I opened "Uninstall a program" on Control Panel, but I am unable to see any program named MSI Afterburner or MSI Live Update. The only programs published by MSI seem to be Super-Charger, MSI Social Media Collection and MSI Remind Manager. Is there any other way to remove said programs?

2. I clicked on the link you provided at http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=rtwlane.sys followed by the "driver update site" link at the bottom of the page, but I am not sure which one to download. Hope you could enlighten me on which one of them (single chip, a/b/g/n and whatnot) is suitable for my computer.

3. I did a search of the driver highlighted in orange on my PC using the Windows Explorer but there are no search results.

4. And of course, I am still having BSOD due to not being able to complete any of the steps you mentioned. The latest minidump file is uploaded in the same link here dated 4th of August.

Thank you.

Hi YehJohn,

Don't worry if you are not well versed with computers. None of us are at some point ;). If there is any confusion at any time please do not hesitate to ask and I would try to explain my level best ^_^.

1. Yes, remove the MSI software and make sure that the driver file is deleted once you uninstall the software from MSI by searching for that driver file using Windows Explorer.

2. In order to confirm the driver for this one, please open Device Manager by typing "Device Manager" on the START screen. Click on it and it would open the Device Manager. Now, under the Network Adapters dropdown, click on the left small arrow which is present on the left hand side of the Network Adapters and click on it. The list would expand. Report back the model number you see for your Wireless Network Adapter and I would suggest you the appropriate driver :)

3. Leave it as it is :). Thanks though for searching ^_^.

4. Complete the above steps and see if your problem gets solved or not.

If any further problem, do not hesitate to post back ^_^.

Hi blueelvis,

Under network adapters there are two items: (i) Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30) and (ii) Realtek RTL8723AE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC

Also, it was weird that when I started up my laptop today it did not encounter a BSOD, as compared to the past few restarts/startups, even though I was unable to do any of the steps you mentioned.

Hi There,

Download the drivers from this website for your product :- MSI Global - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Motherboard, Graphics and more

Download the Wireless LAN driver for your Qualcomm Atheros drivers and then install it. Let me know how it goes ^_^.

Hi,

I've downloaded the Qualcomm LAN driver version 2.1.0.21 and installed it with the options of both 'Modify' and 'Repair', but still encounter BSODs during startups. However, it seems that BSODs during restarting of the PC is gone.

I have uploaded two new minidump files here, dated 080614 for you to take a look.

Hi Yejohn ^_^,

If your problem is still not solved, then do one thing - Go to the Device Manager using the above process I have described in my previous post and then right click on the Realtek Wifi Network Card and then click on Uninstall. Do not restart the system and then install this newly driver downloaded by you.

If it still does not work then right click the Wireless Network Adapter (Realtek in Device Manager), uninstall it and then restart the system. See if it solves or not?

I see the presence of "NTIOLIB_x64.sys" on the system. Please remove any MSI Software from the system as well.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.
