Frequent BSODs on Win8.1 laptop, different error codes

    All right. I disabled all my network adapters (Ethernet, WIFI, and TAP-Windows) and unplugged the Ethernet cable, then rebooted with Driver Verifier enabled. I left it running overnight for approx. 7 hours straight without a problem; zero crashes. Then, I enabled the adapters one at a time Ė no immediate issue. Itís only when I plugged the Ethernet cable back in and that my connection was restored that I had an immediate BSOD: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL for L1C63x64.sys. Verifier is now disabled.

    Given the way Verifier works, does that mean my Atheros LAN Driver is the only cause of all the various BSOD errors Iíve been receiving, or could it just be one of several, even if itís apparently the only one that makes Verifier crash Windows?

    Iím going to try and search for whichever Atheros LAN Driver works best with my Win8.1, as the v2.1.0.13 I have now clearly isnít doing too well. Iím not sure where to look that I havenít already, though, since both the Toshiba drivers page and the Atheros website gave me drivers that result in BSODs.

    New minidump attached.

    Quick update: As I type this, Iíve been running Driver Verifier with my Atheros LAN Driver disabled and connected only through WiFi. I even have my VPN program running. Iíve been performing random strenuous operations (bulk copy-pastes, bulk website load/reloading, etc.) and I have yet to experience a BSOD.

    Wait, as I type this, the screen just froze and then went black for a second. Now itís back to normal.

    Anyway. I think itís clear that my ďQualcomm Atheros AR8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30)Ē, linked to ďL1C63x64.sysĒ, is whatís causing most or all issues with my system.

    Iíve looked online, but it seems to be hard to find any official source for Atheros drivers, and most unofficial websites have only outdated driver versions.

    Gonna let Verifier run until I get a BSOD, though if there hasnít been one by tomorrow, Iíll disable it. Keep you posted.

    UPDATE (5:34 PM): Just got a BSOD for ďmemory corruptionĒ or ďmemory managementĒ (I forget which). Failed to create a minidump. Continuing Verifier.

    UPDATE #2 (5:51 PM): Another BSOD, this time for a security check failure. Minidump attached. Continuing Verifier.

    UPDATE #3 (8:17 PM): Another BSOD. New minidump attached. Disabled Verifier.

    Even with Driver Verifier disabled and my Atheros LAN Driver still disabled, just had another BSOD. Minidump attached.

    UPDATE (5:06 PM): Another BSOD. Minidump attached. They all seem to be about ďmemory corruptionĒ at this point. Any chance this isnít a RAM issue?

    UPDATE (11:17 PM): Had about 4 crashes and BSODs since last update, but only one generated a minidump. Attached.

    Hi Noc,

    Sorry for the delay Noc.
    I have analyzed your latest dump file and below has been provided an analysis :-
    Code:
    4: kd> !analyze -v*******************************************************************************
    *                                                                             *
    *                        Bugcheck Analysis                                    *
    *                                                                             *
    *******************************************************************************

    KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (1e)
    This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
    the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
    as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: ffffffffc0000005, The exception code that was not handled
    Arg2: fffff96000165c21, The address that the exception occurred at
    Arg3: 0000000000000001, Parameter 0 of the exception
    Arg4: 000000000000c237, Parameter 1 of the exception

    I will absolutely run Memtest86+ tomorrow when I leave for a few days, and hopefully it won’t be interrupted in my absence this time.

    As for the outdated third-party drivers, I wasn’t able to find more recent versions (or download sites that worked) for any of them.

    It should take an overnight to complete around 8 passes. Anyways you could try checking Toshiba's Support site for your model and see if there are any updates to it or not.

    Let me know the results of the Memtest ^_^

    Actually, as I mentioned previously, I once left Memtest86+ running overnight for approx. 5 hours and it had only completed one pass and 20% of the second. At that speed, it would take at least two days of letting Memtest86+ run before it completed 8 passes.

    Will be leaving soon and starting Memtest86+. Be back in a few days with results (hopefully this time).

    Also, I reinstalled Mozy for the moment as I really need to backup my files (I’m a bit paranoid). I’ll uninstall it again after Memtest86+ completes if I really must.

    Thanks a bunch for all the help so far.

    Sure thing. I hope we are able to resolve this soon because threads(in which I reply :P ) going over 3 pages make me paranoid that how come these are not still solved.
