Hi there, hope somebody can help me with this Driver Power State Failure BSOD.
This happened after updating to the latest Avast.

I've tried updating my Video and Audio Drivers. Before that, I tried a system restore.

Attached is my DMP file.

This is the link to that CBS.log file generated after the system scan (too big to attach here) on OneDrive: http://1drv.ms/1t1xHkP

Thank you so much!

Hi clubfredd & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

I have analyzed your dump files and they point towards the "nvlddmkm.sys" and the "acpi.sys" drivers as the root causes. Below is a list of 3rd party drivers which are present on your system :-

I have highlighted a driver in RED, please do not remove the driver but find updates for that driver from the ASUS Support Website for your model. Please follow the below instructions :-

1. Please remove all the ASUS Bloatware you can find in your PC. Also, rename the "AiCharger.sys" (Would be found on manual search) to "AiCharger-bak.sys".

2. Remove Daemon Tools as it has been known to cause BSOD in Windows.

3. Remove your NVIDIA Drivers using this DDU(Display Driver Uninstaller). Then, check if the BSOD's are still occurring on removing the NVIDIA drivers. If they stop, then install the latest Beta drivers from NVIDIA Website. If you are using a Laptop, please goto the ASUS Website and install both the Drivers for your Intel HD graphics drivers and the NVIDIA Driver. Do not install from the NVIDIA Website in case you are using a LAPTOP.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

Thanks Blueelvis. I have actually removed that AiCharger (I think it's the Asus USB charger) and also uninstalled DT.

For the driver you highlighted in red, I couldn't update it without manually uninstalling it first - that was what the update installer said (no auto uninstall), and the updated driver was from ASUS website. So I just did just that.

Just out of curiosity about the NVIDIA Drivers, why shouldn't I install from NVIDIA website and instead go to the ASUS website? I will uninstall it using that utility later today when I get home from work and will report back.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Clubfredd,

Great, looking forward to your update. No worries, if you re installed the ATK utility (Updated one), it is required for the functioning of the FN key, lights and all and hence it is required.

Regarding the NVIDIA drivers,
We see most of the laptops today have switchable graphics which means that when some heavy Graphics processing is required, it would use the external GPU attached inside it whereas for normal display operations and all, it would use the Intel Graphics (Or the other one which is integrated inside the motherboard). This is done by the OEM's to ensure performace when required, battery saving and quieter running of the laptop as well. Now, the drivers available at the NVIDIA website are made which are only built for the configurations where only their GPU is utilized and the onboard graphics is not utilized (In case of Desktops). OEM's build their drivers specifically for the Switchable graphics and hence installing directly from the NVIDIA website may cause problems and hence it is not advised generally.

I hope this explains your query :)

Hi Blueelvis,

Thank you for the explanation. I've uninstalled all my video drivers (Both Intel and Nvidia) and installed the one from Asus' site.

I still have the problem though, but this time (or maybe it was the same case as the previous ones), I noticed it happening right after a game crash. The crash was caused by using a game trainer (running on cheat engine). After the game crashes, wait a couple of minutes even without doing anything, then BSOD with the same error.

I've added the latest DMP file ( FREDDATOR-Sat_07_26_2014__95853_68.zip) in my original post.

Thank you!

Are you getting the BSOD if you are not running the Trainer? Also, which game are we talking about here?

Hi Blueelvis,

Amazing Spiderman 2. I do not get the error when I don't run the trainer. The trainer, after just opening it while the game is running, crashes the game.

After the game crashes and close the trainer, I rerun the game again then it gives me a 'Not enough video card memory' or something like that. After closing that notification, give it 2-3 minutes then the BSOD.

When you mentioned that it's still the NVIDIA drivers, it got me looking up the version that I have. So far people have been running into BSOD's because of the current driver, I didn't bother to go into the details of the different situations. And now that I think about it, I updated the NVIDIA drivers to this version a week or so ago. I just haven't been able to test it because of work until a couple of days ago. So I will uninstall the NVIDIA driver and re-install the previous version that ASUS has on their site. Let's see if it that does the trick.

Thanks for you help Blueelvis. I will report back with results as soon as I can.

Fred

Fred

It may be possible, I saw a couple of people having the issue over here as well. According to them, updating to the latest BETA drivers fixed the problem. You could try that, but yea if you are running a laptop then please download the drivers which are available from the ASUS website for your model.

Keep me updated ^_^.
