BSOD "driver power state failure", when shut down or sleep

I have been using my asus laptop but recently started blue screening. When trying to shut it down the screen will go black, but the system lights remain on and it remains running, however irresponsive. It also began showing a blue screen with the warning "Driver power state failure".

Even after a factory reset this problem remains. Any help to figure out the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Chalcogen & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

I have analyzed your only dump file and a summary of that is given below :-

Now, since the dump file blames the "Win32k.sys" which is a Windows Component, chance of it being at fault it extremely low. Below is a list of 3rd party drivers found over your system :-

Please follow the below steps :-
1. It seems that your laptop is overclocked according to the DUMP file. Please reset everything to STOCK settings and remove the overclock. This can be achieved by going into the BIOS and resetting the settings to Default.

2. Remove all the ASUS Bloatware you can find on your system. Please do not REMOVE the ASUS Driver which has been highlighted in RED. It needs to be UPDATED as it is vital for proper functioning of the laptop. "Aicharger.sys" should be searched in the system and then renamed to something else.

3. Remove the DiskKeeper related Software.

4. If the problems still persist, then please remove the Mcafee using this **TOOL**.

5. Run Windows Update to make sure that you have all the updates for your system. Try finding rest of the Updates for the 3rd party drivers listed above.

I hope this resolves your problem, in case not, feel free to post back & I would be glad to help you out ^_^.

I have removed the bloatware and diskeeper programs and removed mcafee. I also ran windows update. So far i have not experienced any blue screens and have not had problems shutting down or sleeping the computer. I could not figure out how to reset to processor speed so i did not adjust that. I will continue to use it and hopefully no more errors arise.

Also this question may be irrelevant now, but how would i go about renaming "Aicharger.sys"?

Thanks for your help

If you are not getting any BSOD's now, then it is not required to rename the "AiCharger.sys". Please test your system extensively to make sure that it is not BSOd'ing.

In order to reset the Processor clock speed, goto BIOS settings and then Reset Everything To Default Values.
