Windows 8.1 64-bit DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD

Hi all,

Today I purchased a Dell Inspiron 3000 series laptop, running Windows 8.1 Update 1 64-bit. However, whenever I shut down or reboot, I get a BSOD with the error, DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. Strangely, it only occurs when I am running on battery power, and after the up time of the machine is 7 minutes. If it's plugged into AC then I don't have any issues.

Please help!

EDIT: The minidump shows that the problem seems to be caused by NTOSKRNL.exe.

Hi,

I don't trust random programs like that, so I ran it in Sandboxie if that's OK.

The zip file is attached.

The Application is extremely safe and has been tested by a lot of users. Please do not run this in a sandbox environment but rather in a normal Windows Environment. Upload the SF Diagnostic file with your normal environment in your next post.

Please update the highlighted drivers.

On further analysis of your dump files, it was revealed that the IRP Packet was being blocked by the NVIDIA Driver in many cases. Hence, I would advise you to go to the DELL Website for your product which is over here(Make sure it is the same model) :-

Product Support | Dell US

and update your Chipset and Video drivers from the drivers download page. Make sure you install both the NVIDIA and the Intel Video Drivers.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

So, I need to update;
CLVirtualDrive.sys Mon Dec 26 18:56:47 2011 (4EF87617)
DellRbtn.sys Sat Aug 4 03:02:54 2012 (501C4386)
and my NVIDIA drivers.

Is that right?
By the way, I can't find anywhere to update DellRbtn.sys on the Dell site or the carrona.org site.

You need to update your NVIDIA & Intel Graphics drivers from the Dell's website. Leave the DellRBTn.sys as of now.

Hi,
I updated my Intel and NVIDIA drivers from the Dell site, but I'm still getting the BSOD.

Attached is the latest minidump.

Hi,

Could you please run Display Driver Uninstaller from this **LINK**? Once those are uninstalled, see if the BSOD's are still continuing or not. If the BSOD's continue then the problem must be something else as the dump file provided by you is still pointing to the "nvlddmkm.sys" which is your NVIDIA Graphics Driver.

Disable Dell Airplane Mode Switch and remove Cyberlink software so as to make sure that they are not behind this.

Keep me updated.

Is there any way to just disable the Cyberlink software, because that is fully activated paid software bundled with my computer, and I want to keep it.

In that case, just rename the driver to something like "ClDriver-bak.sys" so as to have a backup. Also, what was the result once you uninstalled the Display Drivers?

I haven't uninstalled the display drivers yet. I wanted to ask a few questions;
  1. Is it safe to uninstall my display drivers?
  2. Why do I have to use the tool from that website to uninstall them? Can I just do it from the control panel?
Thanks

Yes, the driver removal process is safe, although after the removal, the display might be a bit wierd with the resolution but you would be able to work just fine.

The tool is recommended because many a times, the un-installer from the Control Panel leaves residue files which could cause problems. I hope this helps :)

Hi,

I also posted elsewhere about this matter and the person helping me read the minidump and said that it was only the NVIDIA driver causing problems, not anything else. He suggested that I try older or beta versions of my graphics driver to see if that would solve the problem.

Seeing that NVIDIA has a beta download available for this graphics driver, instead of experimenting with older/beta drivers I figured that I could just wait for the beta driver to be officially released and upgrade to that. I'm not desperate to be using this thing on battery power right now, anyway.
Thanks for all the help, I couldn't have done it without you!

In the BSOD Analysis, I don't think that one can directly tell that the cause is this or that due to it's nature :) . In no way I am disrespecting the person of other forum but according to me it's just like that. So, in the end did you manage to solve your problem? Did installing the latest BETA Drivers fixed it?
