I have read all the other related topics, yet they all involve asus drivers, which I don't have, or kaspersky files, which I don't use.

I have been getting this bsod occasionally ever since I updated to windows 8.1

When using drivercheck programs, it keeps telling me intel chipset drivers are out of date, yet when trying to find any updates, there are none available or all install files tell me I have a newer or the same version, and the device manager shows all drivers installed and working.

The bsod occurs most of the times when I am watching a movie or any other video, but not every single time. It also happened when I was playing a game(can't remember which one), but that only occurred once or twice.

I have done several memtests and other hardware stress tests with no problems. I have changed hardware as well since the update and that didn't resolve anything either, things were still the same, once in a while that same bsod.

My Computer

System One

  • OS
    Windows 8 Pro
E: drive has about 6% free space; F: drive has about 2% free space; I: drive has about 7% free space. Windows likes 15% free space in order to perform stuff "behind the scenes" without adversely affecting the system's performance. Please free up 15% on ALL hard drives (you can get away with 10% on larger drives and won't notice a large performance penalty)

MSINFO32 shows hardware and video errors - start with these free diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
Start with the video tests, and if they pass try the others.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
Alternate link: Disk-Tools.com
Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help

Please uninstall Gigabyte Easy Saver. Also, if installed, please uninstall Gigabyte Easy Tune. Both are known to cause BSOD's on some systems.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Oh, I thought it only wanted 15% free on the system drive, I see. Nothing I can do about it now, but I will keep that in mind.

Ah yes, the Logitech driver for my keyboard was a little outdated, however for that Virtual HID device, which is my wireless headset, has no drivers, and there is no pairing utility for windows 8.1, sent a support mail to Logitech about it.

-Disabled the NVstreaming service.
-Installed the Realtek drivers you linked(the ones I had, came from the gigabyte website, so I guess they are all outdated on their website)

About Gigabyte Easy Saver and Easy tune(which also involves the gdrv.sys file), neither of these programs are in my programs and software list to uninstall, nor can I find those programs on my computer.
The only software I have from Gigabyte is the 'App Center', which checks for chipset driver updates.

As for Daemon tools, do you have another free virtual dvd player that does not cause as many problems I could replace it with, have been using DT Lite for over a decade now, first time I heard it causes problems, but I understand how that new SPTD driver can mess things up. I am keeping this installed until I can find a replacement though, unless the bsod's keep happening.

Thank you for the rather quick reply(I know you guys are understaffed helping with bsod's :)) and I hope this resolves it.

PS.: I would have done this myself, but for some strange reason I can not view the dmp file completely, saying that my access is denied.
I have downloaded several dmpviewer programs, yet none work as they should, the most information I could find was the information in my topic title which I got from a tool called 'BlueScreenView', strangely googling about it doesn't help, except for finding those few half-working tools.

BSOD's from Daemon Tools are common in the BSOD world - but not common in the rest of the world.
Why? I have no idea. But we've been solving BSOD's for several years by removing Daemon Tools.
I suspect that it's a conflict with other software, but haven't been able to identify any culprit other than Daemon Tools.

I've heard Virtual Clone Drive software has been used - but don't use this sort of software myself.

Dump viewer programs don't give much info (especially for these sort of errors).
Access denied errors can be caused by trying to do things in the Windows directory - try copying the dump files to your Desktop and looking at them from there.

DT Lite is still installed, so far no bsod anymore, but since this happened very sporadically, I can't say for sure if it is fixed.
After 2-3 weeks without that same bsod I will update this topic to mark as solved ;)

As for the minidump viewing, opening from desktop seemed to work, that's just weird :p
Still I couldn't find the information you provided me, have any good free program to open dmp files with ?

The things like WhoCrashed, BlueScreenView, etc aren't very helpful if the crash isn't a simple, straightforward crash.
And sometimes they don't even work well for the simple one's (I've emailed back and forth with Nir Sofer about BlueScreenView and understand it's limitations fairly well (IMO).

The desktop limitation is present on some systems and is due to permissions issues (as to what certain programs are allowed to do in the C:\Windows\Minidump directory. The Desktop has easier permissions so it usually works there.

The best tool is the Debugging Tools for Windows which are free from Microsoft.
Here's a link to how I set them up: WinDbg Analysis Report
This is an old page that isn't being updated anymore - still use steps D and beyond to setup the debugger.

Once you get into that, you'll see that there's a lot more to this than the reports that come from WhoCrashed or BlueScreenView.

Good luck!

Thank you greatly for that information usasma, hopefully next time I can find the errors myself :)

Still no bsod, but will give it a few more days to update this topic as solved.
