BSODs from Intel graphics drivers

I've been trying several different versions of Intel graphics drivers (HD 4000) to fix the BSODs, but keep getting them. I got one during a heavy CPU load (x264 encoding) a couple days ago on the latest Windows 8.1 driver from Intel's site. After a while of looking up drivers I downgraded to a Windows 8 driver (3165), but then got one just now while trying to put my laptop to sleep. I could only upload the info for the most recent one, because before that I had my pagefile disabled.

Thanks

edit: Also, ever since the bsod related to video encoding, I monitor my CPU temps with RealTemp and keep my laptop propped up with a fan underneath.

Most laptop video (currently) has dual video cards.
As such, it requires that the OEM carefully match and customize the drivers for each card and the drivers for making them work nicely together.

Using the stock Intel drivers may not be the best solution here. On my Samsung 780 series laptop I have graphics issues when using the Intel-provided graphics drivers and the AMD provided graphics drivers (and have seen the same on systems with nVidia graphics). Cleaning these drivers off and installing the Samsung provided drivers fixes these problems for me - I would suggest the same for you.

There is only 1 memory dump in the uploaded reports. If you're using a disk cleaning program, please stop while we're troubleshooting.

Only 51 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 60 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).
Don't worry about the specific number, it's just important that you have checked and installed any updates that were available.

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

Beyond this, as there was only 1 memory dump in the upload, I have these suggestions:
1. Start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
2. If all of the hardware tests pass, then run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Okay so I uninstalled the 3165 drivers and installed the ones provided from Samsung's SWUpdate utility. There were none available for Windows 8.1, so I installed the Windows 8 ones. Things seem to be running smoothly for now. I'll update if I get another graphics-related BSOD.

Also, as I mentioned in my first post--the existence of only one minidump file was due to my computer not having enough virtual memory (in fact, none, since I disabled the page file) at the time of the first BSOD, and not due to the use of CCleaner or any other disk cleaning application.

FWIW - I did without a pagefile for a while and found that it wasn't worth the trouble.
I went back to a system-managed pagefile and have been happy ever since :0)

Hi John,

I'm back with some more BSODs and minidumps. The good news is they have been occurring at predictable times. The conditions are usually something like:
1) I am ~90% of the way through a slow x264 encode. (RealTemp shows 59°C-67°C for CPU temps during encoding)
2) I am hooked up to a 480i CRT TV through my Extron VSC 100. (Samsung mini-VGA-to-VGA dongle>VGA cord>VSC 100>S-Video cord>CRT) watching a 480p video or something. When my laptop is hooked up this way the resolution auto sets to 1024x768, which is the highest input the Extron VSC 100 will accept (the VSC always outputs in 480i).

I'm starting to think this situation is just prone to BSODs and I should just avoid it in the future. Encoding with x264 seems to work without crashes when I'm hooked up to my 1920x1080 Dell monitor via DVI.

A couple other things...
--Whenever I get the blue screen, my bluetooth driver is shown as not working properly in the device manager upon reboot, even though I have BT turned off during the BSOD. This occurs even after uninstalling Intel's BT driver and BSODing. The generic driver will be shown with the yellow exclamation symbol.
--I have not run any hardware or driver diagnostics yet.
--This time running SF Diagnostic Tool gave me a MS .NET Framework error on one of the logs (could not find Eventapp.txt or something), and may not have finished including everything.
--Ever since I reenabled my pagefile and set it to system managed, the pagefile seems stuck at 512MB. I remember when I had it managed by Windows before it was something close to 8 GB (also I have 8 GB of physical memory).

You can encode w/o BSOD's when you don't use all the complicated stuff.
But you do get BSOD's when using the complicated stuff.
Sounds to me like you should avoid using the complicated stuff.

The memory dumps point to your processor driver. I'd suggest running these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics The last test is a processor test, so please be sure to run that.

RealTemp uses the WinRing libraries (WinRing0x64.sys) as a part of it's program. The WinRing libraries on your system date from 2008 and are known to cause BSOD problems with some Windows systems. Please uninstall it immediately. You can use this free temp monitoring utility instead: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

No sign of the Bluetooth drivers in the memory dumps. Please be sure that you've updated to the latest, Win8.1 compatible Bluetooth driver. Also, let us know what Device Manager has to say about the error.

I'm not a pagefile expert, but I'd just leave it at "system-managed" and wouldn't worry about the actual numbers.

Try running Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Finally, have you tweaked the system very much? If so, there may be some setting that's causing the problems. If that is the case, we either have to find the setting and set it back to normal - or (if you can't find the setting) you have to consider doing a bare metal recovery of the system (so that it resets to normal. Don't forget to backup your stuff first!
