Frequent BSODs and AMD Driver crashes including 0xa0000001

    Hi

I get frequent BSODs, AMD driver crashes, screen display errors, game crashes, running Windows 8.1 on my AMD A10-5700 APU w/ 8GB RAM. Videos in browsers (firefox, IE, and/or chrome) are common culprits, as are running certain games (recently, GTA IV). Sometimes the BSODs and driver crashes are repeatable (loading certain games or certain web sites). As far as I know, this has happened since day 1 with this computer (refurb from Lenovo), though the frequency waxes and wanes.

Can sometimes make games work better by reducing graphics settings.

Have tried refreshing windows; the ~30 .dmp files in the diagnostic report are since I did that, less than a month ago.

Have tried removing and reinstalling AMD catalyst drivers.

Have tried removing RAM sticks one at a time, but still get the same problems. Windows Memory Diagnostic did not detect any errors.

    Would appreciate help. TIA.

Your Bugchecks are 0xA0000001 which are known to be a custom bugcheck coded into ATI drivers. Also you have 0x3B which are showing your ATI drivers too.

Download the 13.9 driver from here then use AMD Uninstall Utility to remove all traces of your current driver, CCC etc. Reboot and install the 13.9 driver.

    Note   Note
When installing choose 'Advanced' or 'Custom' (whichever option is available, just not Express) and uncheck everything except the video driver.

Thanks. I followed your instructions, and things seem to be 95% fixed, which I see as good enough. I tried a game that was giving BSODs every time; it gave a BSOD once, then has worked flawlessly every time since. I still have a few "driver has stopped working and recovered" problems and a few screen artifacts, but it's nothing I can't live with. Thanks again!

If you're still getting that run Furmark to stress test your GPU (do you have a dedicated GPU or are you using the iGPU from the APU?). Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark - Windows 7 Help Forums

    Note   Note
Run Furmark for around 30 minutes.

    Hi,
My wife was having the same issues with the BSOD. Just a couple of times a day over the last couple of days (new Lenovo desktop).
We followed the above instructions for uninstall >Reboot and reinstall. Hope this cures it? She can't remember if it was a particular instance that caused it, so I guess she will find out if the BSOD returns.

We will post back to let you ppl know.... Thank You !!

    EDIT:
Uninstalling the Lenovo drivers and then installing an updated set of drivers seemed to do the trick. She has not had that problem since then.

Hopefully others have more luck than me. I wiped the hard drive and clean installed Windows 10, and still had the same issue (i.e. frequent BSODs, usually during gaming). I had also pulled each of the two RAM sticks when I had a reproducible issue, and I still had the issue.

My conclusion is that my issue must be hardware based, most likely something in the AMD APU or motherboard. This was a refurbished unit from Lenovo. Naturally, I'm well past the warranty by this point. Oh well, time to consign this computer to the junkyard.
