I have tons of crashes and have no idea whats causing them

Hi,

I don't like this file at all:

Code:
2: kd> lmvm GEARAspiWDM
start end module name
fffff880`05800000 fffff880`0580d000 GEARAspiWDM (deferred)
    Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\GEARAspiWDM.sys
    Image name: GEARAspiWDM.sys
    Timestamp: Mon May 18 08:17:04 2009 (4A1151C0)

    Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4

I would delete that then reboot. It will stop your CD/DVD drive from working but we can easily fix that later on when the system is stable.

Before the reboot - also update PowerISO:

Code:
5: kd> lmvm scdemu
start end module name
fffff880`0570f000 fffff880`05729000 SCDEmu (deferred)
    Image path: \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\SCDEmu.SYS

1) Wait and hope there are no more bsods. If there are, then you are very welcome to post the new ones, same as before. I don't think there is going to be any more though if you've completed those two things as above.

2) Fix your CD/DVD drive. You can do so manually with this method:

  1. In Metro Start screen, type regedit in it and then click the program that shows to start it.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
  2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  3. In the right pane, if you have UpperFilters, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
  4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
  5. In the right pane, if you have LowerFilters, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
  6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
  7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

OR

automatically with this method:

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

Just a suggestion, but try your iTunes. Does it work?
In most cases GEARAspiWDM.sys is installed because of iTunes.

If this is the case in your system, uninstall iTunes, then download/install a fresh copy
GEARAspiWDM.sys will stay the same date - but any corruption should have been removed.

At least one of the memory dumps involved a transition into hibernation. As such the primary suspects are chipset, storage, and video drivers (although other drivers can impact this - such as USB and networking).

I'd suggest running Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings
2 new tests in Driver Verifier for Win8 - Concurrentcy Stress Test and DDI compliance checking

Lot's of new drivers in Win8 that haven't been added to the Driver Reference Table yet. Post back with any questions about them.

The following info is just FYI, I've already addressed the issues that I saw in the above paragraphs

Ah Razer in there. Razer is quite notorious despite its affiliation with Microsoft. You know what they've done lots in the past? Take something like a 2009 driver, repackage it to a 2011 installer and then put it on their website with a brand new date to make it appear the driver is new to everyone. Of course, they then announce it as "Compatible with X Y or Z new operating system" which obviously is not the case.

There have been many bsods I've solved by having users completely eliminate the Razer hardware from the machine so its driver is not active. In these cases, it has been the only way after trying everything else. And yes, the BSODs did involve power times such as reboot, hibernation and/or sleep.

Please listen in Usasma's great advice above but also concentrate on actually obtaining a new Razer driver should it exist (check the .sys modified date to compare) or try removing it from the system if needed, too.

I thought I was going senile to have missed that before. But that's not the case. You've added that after my previous diagnosis and it was not in those logs. :)

From your 031212-15849-01 log:

Code:
5: kd> lmvm rzsynapse
start end module name

It's absent.

@Usasma - thank you for the GearASPIwdm information. I was always under the impression it was included with software such as Roxio. I think it is but was not aware of iTunes including it.

As for rzsyapse.sys and Google - lots of BSOD related threads - https://encrypted.google.com/search...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Razer problems seem to come and go. Recently there has been a spate of problems with these devices - so the driver issues aren't surprising.

Also, I've seen more problems with their hardware than with any other device - so it's reasonable to suspect the hardware in these devices as a matter of course.

Please follow GMan's excellent advice to uninstall the software and remove the device from your system. That's the only sure test to see if it's the cause.

...and they all have the Razer driver active.

Like we said, update the driver or remove the hardware from the system. :)

You will need to replace the hardware with something entirely different for bsods to stop.

You could try updating its firmware, but that is unlikely to help.

Razer = bsod

It's a simple math equation based on long history of funk.

Razer drivers are not compatible with Windows 8. You will have to contact them and take the issue there if you wish to.

I wish we could help you further, but nobody here on this forum has the propriertary information to fix the driver, even if one of us had the skills to do so.
