BSOD and CTD, error 119 and 133 , exception c0000005

Hello all, I'm new to the forums here as I can normally troubleshoot and problems myself, but I've been having a hard time resolving this issue.

I've recently upgraded my motherboard, processor and RAM to an ASUS Z87-K, Intel i5-4670K, and Corsair XMS3 1x8GB, and ever since I have been experiencing what appear to be video card related crashes. I am using a Zotac Geforce GTX 560 AMP, and a Corsair 750w PSU and did not have issues before the upgrade. The computer will crash to desktop while playing high performance games, sometimes almost immediately, sometimes after an hour or two. This results in an event log message like this:

    Code:

This is bad enough, but I have also been receiving BSOD in more sever cases. My dump files are zipped and attached here.

In my troubleshooting to date I have:
    - started upgrade from clean Windows 8.1 install
    - checked all my power supply settings,
    - checked all internal connections
    - made sure the RAM was running at the appropriate frequency and power settings
    - updated my BIOS and all my drivers manually, included several clean driver installs for my graphics card
    - conducted Windows Repair
    - checked the temperature: CPU less than 40C, GPU a fair bit higher in mid 70's
    - tested memory for damage, came back clean
    - ran dskchk, came back clean
    - ran dxdiag, says there are no problems

*Note: I've been using Shogun 2 to run tests, but it happens on every game I've tried (Arma 3 and Planetside 2 through Steam, and FarCry 3 through Uplay)

My next step will most likely be another complete format and reinstall, and then if it still remains I would have to assume my video card is shot, a horrible coincidence that it happened right when I upgraded everything else. But before I take these next steps I'd thought I'd try to post here, in hopes that someone could perhaps catch something I missed. Thanks in advance, any insight would be appreciated.

I have highlighted the drivers which need to be updated or removed ASAP. I suspect that the Western Digital Driver is at fault as it is the 2008 version and it has BSOD issues with Windows systems. Furthermore, please clean up the Asus Bloatware you can find in your system ASAP.

Also, one of the dump files point to WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR which means there is a possible cause of CPU Failure as the Processor 1 Bank 1 reported "DCACHEL0_WR_ERR" which means the L0 Cache is corrupt. But, before we begin the hardware diagnostics, we need to make sure that there is no Software related problem.

Furthermore, if you are having errors related to video drivers, did you try downgrading your driver a few versions? Also, does this issue happen if you take out your GPU and use your inbuilt chipset GPU?

Hi blueelvis, and thanks for the quick reply. I'll get on removing the bloatware and updating those drivers immediately. Its been a while since I've upgraded the mobo and processor, I didn't realize the amount of bloatware that was coming with it now.

I have reverted to an earlier driver version and still had problems, so I reverted back to continue troubleshooting. Could be I just didn't go back far enough though. Also, I did not have this issue till I upgraded some components, and was already using the latest video card driver, if that helps any.

I have also tried just the iGPU, but can't run applications at the same graphics levels, and in some instances can't seem to run them at all. So while I haven't yet experienced these issues while using the iGPU I feel that this isn't necessarily indicative of anything as all my crashes have been while running GPU intensive games. But I could very well be wrong about this.

Glad you caught those drivers, I was hoping I had just missed something simple like that, even if I do feel somewhat silly for missing them.

Will post with results after updating drivers and removing bloatware.

Finished removing or updating drivers, I kept ASUS AI Charger and Boot Setting but removed the other ASUS programs I don't want or need.

Also, before making any of those changes I ran a FurMark test, and peaked/remained constant in the high 90Cs. So definitely running hotter than is good. All my fans are working, but its possible my video card could benefit from a cleaning.

Only problem I ran into was with wdcsam64.sys. I'm pretty sure this driver is for my WD My Passport external driver, allowing for SCSI Enclosure Service functionality. I've run WD's Driver Setup, removed the old and tried installing a newer version, but it still showing the same date in driverquery. Is it possible that they just haven't updated the program, and I'm running into conflicts with Win 8.1?

Seems I could remove this driver and still use my external as a regular hard rive. Any suggestions and the best/safest way to achieve this? Because my first instinct is to go to my System32/drivers and delete it or change it to a .bak file.

    Hi Krieger,

First of all, Furmark is a GPU stress test so cannot be used to assess the CPU itself. You can use Prime 95 to stress test your CPU but make sure you take the necessary precautions. You can follow the below guide as well to stress test your CPU :-

Keep it stable, stupid! How to stress-test your PC hardware | PCWorld

As far as the Western Digital Driver is concerned, does this issue persist in safe mode? And yeah, go ahead and rename the driver file to the backup file so that in case of backup, we could use the file again.

Let me know how it goes ^_^

I meant to stress testing my GPU, not CPU . I've received that WHEA error once, and I'm pretty sure it was from power settings I had changed while trouble shooting. I changed the power settings and haven't had that issue since. I've used Intel's Processor Diagnostic Tool and that came back clean, and I could also run Prime95, but haven't as of yet.

Have yet to change the WD driver to backup, but I did just receive this crash:

    Code:
    - System
    - Provider
    [ Name] Display
    - EventID 4101

    EventRecordID 5930
    Channel System
    Computer HomeCore
    Security
    - EventData
    nvlddmkm
It didn't result in BSOD, but it did freeze the application entirely, forcing me to go to desktop and close it. I'm not sure if I should be posting that somewhere else, but I think its related to my BSOD issues.

Changing the WD driver next, hoping that helps.

Interesting. Tried running Shogun 2 again before changing the driver file, and opened the logo screen but froze there. Changed the driver to a .bak, tried again, and got the same thing. I can hear the audio progressing, but the visual display freezes almost immediately.

Maybe a clean install of the drivers again? I'm really at a loss.

From a hardware standpoint, could all this be caused by an overheating GPU and/or VRAM that is going?
