i just reintalled (clean) my laptop (asus a42ja, and here are the specs Notebooks & Ultrabooks - A42JA - ASUS i have the i5 model)and after installing the drivers needed , it goes BSOD on me, normally if im playing internet video trough chrome. At first i thought clean installing my computer would solve this problem, it didnt.

(aside from listed specs, i got corsair 8 GB ram, and sandisk ultra plus 256gb ssd, plus an hdd caddy with 1 tb wd blue drive on my disk drive) and im also using a monitor with vga output

is there a problem with the driver?? ive attached the things needed for detection below.

The dump indicates a processor problem... Perhaps you could try to run the Prime 95 stability test.

Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 - Windows 7 Help Forums

Choose "SmallFFT" test and also select "Round off Checking" from "Advanced" menu (read reply #1). Run the test for 3-4 hours and upload the "Result.txt" file it creates with next reply.

Thanks for running that test. I thought the dump file was clearly saying CPU problem but I'm not an expert. I notice you are not overclocking and have the latest BIOS according to ASUS website so am not sure what to suggest now.

There was only one .dmp file though. If it happens again please upload the new .dmp file so we can see if the problem is consistent.

Hopefully someone else will have a look into it soon.

THANK YOU for looking into my problem :) since im completely blind about BSODS.well i still can track BSOD with "normal cause" like driver failure etc, but this is out of my language.

ill keep the thread running, in hope that other can also look into it :)

The old advice about the first BSOD was to reboot and see if it happened again.
If it didn't, then don't worry about it.
If it did, then it was time to start troubleshooting.

As this appears to be a fresh (within the last day) installation of Windows, the first question is "Why did you reinstall Windows?" If it was because of BSOD's, then this is more likely to be a hardware issue (as it repeats after a reinstall of Windows). If you'd like, you can do the following things to help out with it.

Only 36 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 60 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Don't worry about the specific number, it's just important that you have checked and installed any updates that were available.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
Alternate link: Disk-Tools.com
Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help

The presence of hal.dll in the stack text causes me to wonder about compatibility issues. I also wonder about hardware problems with it - as broken hardware isn't compatible with any system. So, for starters, please run these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Also, update your JMicron networking drivers, your wireless drivers, and your touchpad drivers to the latest, Win8.1 compatible version (these drivers all date from before 8.1 was released).

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

It seems that Asus has chosen not to support Win8 or 8.1 on your laptop.
Check at http://downloadcenter.intel.com for the Intel Management Engine (IME) drivers.
You may have to try several different versions before you find the correct one.
FYI - here's the links that I recommend for starting out:

As for the JMicron controller, there doesn't appear to be a download page at JMicron.
In that case, searching Google for the driver (and Windows 8) may locate the drivers.
You may also search the Asus support website for that driver to see if they have a Win8 version

I did a quck google search and only found Win7/Win8 drivers - which I suspect are just Win7 drivers.
If those are the only one's you can find, then try installing it in compatibility mode for Win7 to see what happens.

I'll try to look a bit more this evening (I'm late for work right now).

ok i foud the jmicrod driver, (at least newer one tahn the one from asus website), and it seems like its working properly now. Altrough i didnt update the intel management engine. (no bsods till no but further testing is required)

but i keep having this problem where after boot up the computer would freeze and the main ssd utilize 100% of its transfer rate,(but there is nothing to transfer or read , 0kbps read and write), as if it waits for the second hdd to respond.

i didnt have this problem before , could you help me with this? ive already searched for this problem , there is many people with identical problem but no solution. here are thing ive tried:

-no page file
-max pagefile 2x my 8gb RAM
-update almost all of my driver
-update the ssd firmware
-update intel INF
-refresh the windwos, to see if its happening again (it did)
-disconnect the sceond hdd to see if the main ssd waiting for the HDD o lad, even without the hdd its still freezes up

IDK anyomre what to do

This may give us a clue as to what's causing the freezing.
But I've gotta say that freezes like this usually require different troubleshooting techniques.

Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Also, try this technique: How to Diagnose and Fix High DPC Latency Issues with WPA (Windows Vista/7/8) - Sysnative Forums
I haven't used the tool from Step I, but the tool in Step II has been changed a bit (it's now a gui rather than a command line tool)

I haven't used the tool from Step I, but the tool in Step II has been changed a bit (it's now a gui rather than a command line tool)

ok ill try the second technique tomorrow, here is my admin.evtx

The only thing that I see you haven't done is to try the HDD without the SSD. Is that possible?

I looked at the Admin Event Logs:
Lot's of disk retry and storage controller reset warnings - seems to be a storage issue (most commonly hard drive, cabling, and/or storage controller).
Run these free diagnostics: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure
Then, if they pass, update your chipset and storage controller drivers from the Asus website.

hmm, it seems like linking the desktop and other folder made the ssd wait for the HDD to respond, ive checked that, there are no bad sector and both drives function properly (they are both new), and ive updated the ata controller driver (for 2006- to 2009), do you know any newer driver for intel m460 based computer? , the new driver eased the problem a bit, but every now and then , the problem still occur

I have to wonder if there's a compatibility issue here (due to Asus not supporting the system with Win8/8.1)
If unable to find more current drivers at http://downloadcenter.intel.com , then I'd have to suggest trying to revert to Win7.
Good luck!

Hey,

If your system works correctly under Windows 7 i would stick with that until you upgrade to a higher spec machine.

I can't see there being much issue with Windows 8 however have you tried contacting Asus directly in regards to what drivers they could give you?

Cheers
