Solved BSOD after sleep, restarts, driver_power_state_failure

After my computer wakes up, I get a BSOD and it restarts. After running BlueScreenView, the error points to ntoskrnl.exe. Technically, my mobo supports Windows 8, but there are very limited drivers. I ran Windows 8 for close to a year with no problems but had to recently reinstalled it due to a BIOS update that was needed to support the two new amd gpus that I put in. I have since set the power options to never sleep and have not encountered the error since, but would like to make sure I don't have any driver issues. Thank you for any help. Attached is the .dmp file.

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum): http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html Please use Option 1 as it provides Event Viewer logs.

Ntoskrnl.exe is the kernel (core) of the OS. If it was actually to blame, then you'd be seeing many more problems other than the occasional BSOD. Most often this is due to other, 3rd party drivers that have corrupted the memory space that ntoskrnl.exe occupies.
This can also be due to hardware issues, or Windows issues.

First, please get ALL available Windows Updates.

Although I haven't noticed this in the past, I'm seeing more and more memory dumps with antivirus programs AND Malwarebytes running. I'd suggest only running one antivirus in memory at a time - to include Malwarebytes.

Please uninstall the CD/DVD program that uses GEARAspiWDM.sys
It was mentioned in the dump file and could be a problem.
I'm uncertain as to which program uses this (many manufacturer's use it) - so please uninstall any program that writes to disks.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Please DO NOT UNINSTALL this one - it may make the system unbootable:

Realtek PCI/PCIe Adapters
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=Rt630x64.sys

The dump points to a low level driver (atapi.sys) that can be related to the CD/DVD drivers, or to other problems within the system. The other reports are needed in order to narrow this down a bit.

In the meantime:
Beyond this, as there was only 1 memory dump in the upload, I have these 3 suggestions:
1. Get ALL available Windows Updates. It may take several trips to get them all
2. Start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
3. If all of the hardware tests pass, then run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings'

Thank you so much for taking a look at this. I have attached the SF Diagnostic files. I have also ensured that all updates have been installed in Windows Update. How should I go about uninstalling GEARAspiWDM.sys?

So to update those drivers mentioned, I just following the links to the update sites and install the updated drivers?

I will go ahead and proceed with the three suggestions you listed until I hear back.

Thanks again. Much appreciated.

Oh, and I'm not sure if this adds to the issue, but in event viewer, I also get an error that states:
An I/O operation initiated by the Registry failed unrecoverable. The Registry could not flush hive (file): ".
I researched this a bit and many people said this can safely be ignored.

For now, don't worry about GEARAspiWDM.sys - it is used by many programs (to include iTunes). It's usually stable and not involved in BSOD's - so we'll wait to see if we need to mess with it.

MalwareBytes and your antivirus are both present in these memory dumps. Please uninstall MalwareBytes while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to reinstall it once the system has been stabilized.

As for the Event Viewer error - It depends on what's causing the I/O error. This can be a bad hard drive, bad memory, or just a glitch.
Does this error recur? If so, I'd think that it wasn't safe to ignore.
To check, please run these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics (the hard drive and memory are the one's to start with).

Only 145 Windows Updates installed (and many, many Windows Update errors in the WER section of MSINFO32). Most systems have 170 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

This device is disabled in Device Manager:
High Definition Audio Bus PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_AAA0&SUBSYS_AAA01043&REV_00\4&1A8E36E5&0&0109 This device is disabled.
Is this deliberate? If so, why?

MSI Afterburner (along with Riva Tuner and EVGA Precision) are known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems (it's driver is usually RTCore64.sys). Please un-install them immediately!

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Thank you for the continued help!

I have not manually disabled the High Def Audio Bus, should I enable that?

I have uninstalled MSI Afterburner for the time being. I normally use that for custom fan profiles.

I ran memtest for 9 hours and it successfully completed 8 passes with no errors.

I tried to run Seatools for DOS off a bootable CD. I have 3 hard drives. It only detected one during this process. It ran a short test with no errors and froze during the long test. I installed SeaTools for Windows and it detected all three drives. I ran both short and long tests for all the drives and all tests passed successfully with no errors.
The I/O errors that I menioned previously only occur at boot.

I was unable to find Asus Smart Doctor/iTracker 2. How should I go about uninstalling this?

I ran Driver Verifier and upon boot, I got a BSOD pertaining to: "DRIVER_VERIFIER_IOMANAGER_VIOLATION (IOMap64.sys)"

I also made certain that all updates in Windows Update were installed.

Attached is an updated SFDiag and two images of warnings that I get in my Event Viewer occasionally. I'm not sure if they pertain to the problem we are trying to work out but I figured I would attach them just in case. for the "Registry Warning.PNG" file, there were 31 user registry handles leaked in one instance. The image only shows 1.

I am working to find those two updated drivers that you mentioned need updating.

Again, thank you for the continued support. I really appreciate it.

I also forgot the mention, after the BSOD upon running Driver Verifier, this is the Error that I got:

DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service TermService with arguments "Unavailable" in order to run the server:
{F9A874B6-F8A8-4D73-B5A8-AB610816828B}

Could that iTracker 2 be associated with the ASUS software that came with the 2 R9 280x GPUS I have in Crossfire? I was doing a little more research just now and came across a forum that states that the IOMap64 BSOD could be associated with iTracker 2. The ASUS software currently installed is GPU Tweak and GPU Tweak Streaming.

Don't worry about the audio device for now.

Please go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and find IOMap64.sys
Right click on it and select "Properties", then click on each of the different tabs to see if there's any info/hints as to what the driver might be.

Then, uninstall all non-essential Asus software and see if the BSOD's continue (leave Driver Verifier on).
If it does, then we'll look at the dump file to see if it still blames IOMap64.sys
If it does, I'll provide detailed instructions on how to attempt to manually remove it.

I deleted Asus GPU Tweak and GPU Tweak Streaming. IOMap64.sys was not in C:\Windows\System32\drivers, but I did find it in C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\GPU Tweak.

I restarted Driver Verifier and I did not get a BSOD upon boot! I also ran a couple of other test in which I encountered problems earlier and did not get a BSOD. Why would that program cause that error? Also, is it a required program for my Asus R9 280x's in Crossfire?

I checked event viewer and I am still getting the I/O operation initiated by the Registry failed unrecoverably error at boot, but again, I experienced no BSOD and when I did the diagnostics on the RAM using memtest and the hard drives using Seatools for Windows, all tests passed.

I am also still getting this warning in Event Viewer:

Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards.

DETAIL -
1 user registry handles leaked from \Registry\User\S-1-5-21-2541484413-2749064230-1630204579-1001:

Are these two entries in the Event Viewer something I still need to continue to troubleshoot?

Thank you!

Why would the program cause that error?
Because it's messed up! :0)
Seriously tho' - it's either that one of the files became corrupted enough to cause a BSOD, or that it's not compatible w/Win8

Also, is it a required program for my Asus R9 280x's in Crossfire?
I have no idea. If the graphics is working satisfactorily, then it's likely not needed.
I'd post over in the video card forums for more expert advice on that.

I am still getting the I/O operation initiated by the Registry failed
I/O operation errors are a clue to check hardware - they don't always mean that there's a hardware problem.
If it's not giving you a problem, I'd just leave it be.
If you'd like to try this, it may help:
Then please run the following DISM commands to see if there's any problems with the system (from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt). Press Enter after each one:
Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

FYI - I have repaired systems using the last command even though problems weren't found with the first 2 - so I suggest running them all.

From this article: Repair a Windows Image

You can also run sfc.exe /scannow from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt to check for further corruption.

Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards.
I've had these errors and have researched them. The prevailing opinion is that they are harmless unless you're experiencing problems with it.

Thank you so much! By running the DISM commands, updating the NIC driver, uninstalling ASUS GPU Tweak, and assuring all updates were installed, my problems seem to be solved (at the moment haha). Thanks again for the continued support!:geek:
