Solved Kernel-Processor-Power Event ID 37 (Warning)

Recently I noticed a game that I had been playing had started to stutter and slowdown more than usual, the performance issues were to be expected as the games engine is notorious for being poorly optimized, however these occurrences were fairly rare in comparison to the issues i'm experiencing now.

It seems for the last two days the performance of said game had been dismal, where i'd get a mostly consistent frame-rate before, I now only have a stutter riddled mess.

Looking through the Event Log I noticed a entry shown as; Kernel-Processor-Power Event ID 37, the text below it shows this; 'The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 7 seconds since the last report' the entry had been generated at '7:56pm' of today, which I found odd, as I believe that's when I started my game.

This had not been the only instance it seems, there were some entries from a few weeks back that show the same thing, however they were few and far in between. It seem I have 3 entries, all from today (12:00am, 3:56pm, 7:56pm) all warnings.

Is there anyway to fix this? If so, please respond.

Hi Arcturus,

This is a BSOD analysis thread but I will try my best to assist although more experienced users should be there in the Performance and Maintenance section of this forum.

According to the message above, it seems that your BIOS is restricting the processor. Have you made some recent changes in the BIOS? Or are you using any software to reduce the processor performance.

Try setting the Power Options to High Performance mode and see if the stutter exists. There might be dust related problems as well in your CPU, so cleaning them would be a good option as well.

Also, by any chance did you get any BSOD as well?

Sorry about that, I found that someone posted their 'Kernel-Processor-Power' topic on this section in Seven Forums and I had thought I could do the same here.

No BSOD's, and the only changes I have made in the BIOS was turning off the touchpad driver, along with the Intel Remote Tracker. Dust shouldn't be an option as this was a new purchase, no more than a'month to be more precise.

I'll try turning on the 'High Performance' setting later today to see what happens, strange how it played just fine on 'Balanced' though, and all of sudden this comes up.

So could you please post here, how was your problem solved?

Sorry, the problem had not been solved at all. Couldn't figure out how to remove this post when I wanted to make a new one at 'Performance and Maintenance' so I decided to post as 'Solved' instead, might have been a'bit too hasty when I did that.

In regards to my original question, do you have anymore suggestions? I haven't tampered with anything in the BIOS to have caused this, Open-Hardware Monitor shows both CPU and GPU at normal temps while in-game (both for windowed and full-screen,) tried setting my laptop at high-performance mode, but it didn't seem to help.

Please respond as soon as possible.

Sorry mate, but did you try setting the BIOS settings back to default?

If the problem still persists, please ask again in the Performance section as my knowledge is very limited for your case, I would say

What do mean by 'default' though? I'm using a locked BIOS so my options are limited, as for my performance and maintenance post, it's fading obscurity. On that note, is it okay if I 'bump' it after a'while, so people can at-least see it again?

Update: I tried testing two games so see if both would generate the warning upon play, on a more CPU, and GPU intensive game (Skyrim) the warning did not come at all, the laptop seemed cool, and maintained a stable 50-60 frames on next to ultra while at the same time running a script and effect intensive set of mods during a fight with near a dozen models on screen.

Tried testing the lesser CPU, and GPU game (Oblivion), the settings are somewhat over high, used Open Hardware monitor to see heat levels of both GPU and CPU, GPU is at a cool (47-60) while in-game, while CPU (all 4 physical cores) are at a (37-45) while in-game. Everything on the surface seems stable, however, the pattern is everytime I run (Oblivion) the 'Warning' appears, and while using Open Hardware monitor at the time, I see that the heat levels for my cpu never rise far from what i'd get at the desktop (35-40.)

I think somehow turbo-boost is not recognizing my game, it is rather quite old and doesn't use hyper threading technology, and plays best with two cores rather than a quad core with turboboost and hyperthreading, while Skyrim was made much closer to the present context and expects 4 cores than anything else.

When you enter the BIOS, there is an option to press a button to reset the default settings of the BIOS.


But, now it appears that this is a game specific issue as Skyrim is running fine. But, I could tell you that you would get far more better support at the Game Support rather than here

EDIT :- As far as the bumping is concerned, I have no idea, maybe a senior could help me out over here? But, I guess bumping is generally not required as almost every thread is visited and posts are made which automatically bump up the thread.
