    Kernel Security Check Failure

    Hello all,

Over the last week or so, I had been getting a Driver IRQL Not Less or Equal BSOD on my Windows 7. I researched many different fixes that didn't really work out for me. Since I was on the fence about upgrading to Windows 8.1, the fact that I couldn't fix this gave me the push to finally do it. Went through the install process fine. Transferred my personal files from my externals to the computer. Starting downloading necessary stuff (Chrome, Winrar, Adobe Reader, etc.). Finally, I decided to use Disk Cleanup to get rid of my Windows.old file so that I could free up several hundred gigabytes of space. That went through just fine. And then the BSODs started.

It usually happens when I start installing something new. It'll work the installation process for a minute or so, and then hit me with the blue screen. I know the problems are usually with outdated drivers, and looking at the DriverList that the dump gave shows that I only have one that is super outdated:

secdrv Security Driver Kernel 9/13/2006 9:18:32 AM

Unfortunately, what google searches I've done show that this shouldn't be deleted and should update with a Windows Update. This is a problem, considering that I have all the current Windows Updates already installed.

Thanks for anyone that can help

    All your dumpfiles blames BugCheck 139, {3, 80039710, 80039640, 0}
Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\MRVW24B.sys, Win32 error 0n2

*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for MRVW24B.sys
    Probably caused by : MRVW24B.sys ( MRVW24B+22c9f )

This is (probably) the driver for your Wireless-N USB Network Adapter.

It is known that many networkdevices with windows 7/8 driver have problems with windows 8.1

Driver Description: Linksys, NetGear, DLink or Marvell Wireless USB Network Adapter

Please update to the latest windows 8.1 compatible drivers.

Hi Pakis Pride ^_^ & welcome to the forums!

I have analyzed your Dump files and each of the Dump files returned the error KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE (139)
which means A kernel component has corrupted a critical data structure. The corruptioncould potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of this machine.

The dump file blamed "MRVW24B.sys" which is a component of your Marvell TOPDOG 802.11n suite of wireless drivers. Furthermore, the driver is obsolete & dates back to the year 2008.

So, I would suggest you to completely remove and then update the latest version of the drivers of the above wireless card from this link :- Marvell - Support - Driver Downloads

One more thing, could you please disable your Marvell Topdog Wireless Network Interface from the Device Manager and see if the issue still persists or not on trying to install some software? This would make sure if this is the only thing which is causing the BSOD.
Are you running the SWTOR while this issue is happening?

Please mark this thread as solved if the issue gets solved and if the issue still persists, please don't hesitate to post back here ^_^

Thank you both so much! I uninstalled the driver and everything seems to be working fine. Unfortunately, the adapter is no longer supported, so there has been no Windows 8 compatible version of the driver, so I will need to either find a new adapter or begin just having it connected directly to my router. Hopefully this was the only problem and it doesn't come up again.

Again, thanks to both of you.

In the support link I mentioned, there is one Windows 8 Installer already in the right pane without selecting any device/platform. Try running that and who knows, you might be able to use this wireless network with windows 8?
