Hello,
My Windows 8.1 crashes randomly (almost everyday), without BSOD or Black Sreen, and restarts as normal. There are no minidump files created.
Any help is welcome.

Only 44 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 60 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

I found network and video crashes from March and April in the WER section of MSINFO32
Nothing from May though.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
Alternate link: Disk-Tools.com
Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help

Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Maybe not so many updates as PC came directly in 8.1. I added what was available as of today and updated drivers from sony site when available.

I uninstalled Daemon Tools as you mentioned. I saw windows 8 can directly manage images like iso but not nrg images so i'll have to find a way to manage them.

You'll find enclosed an updated dm log and the evtx file.
I'll keep you updated if/when new crash and will monitor with cpuid
Thanks

Update: It just crashed this morning so i updated the 2 files and added the HW log until the crash

I found traces of errors with these things in the Event Viewer Admin Log.
Please update them from the manufacturer's website:
Intel Smart Connect
Video drivers
touchpad/mouse drivers
Vaio Enery Server Service
bluetooth drivers

Temps got up to the mid-70's (Celcius) - pretty hot
Dunno if it's hot enough to cause problems tho'
Use a cooling pad to see if that helps slow down the problems.
Blow out the vents with canned air (DO NOT use a vacuum or an air compressor as it can damage the system)

Please run these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics. Let us know the results and we can move on from there.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics. Let us know the results and we can move on from there.

Hello,
All drivers are the latest available and from what i read this range of temperature seems acceptable for an I7. In addition BSOD doesn't happen systematically when temperature is in the high range and i tested with different power plans and ventilation speed.

It looks really random.

I made hardware tests which didn't show any issue (Intel IPDT, Windows memory diagnostic tool, memtest86+, Vaio care hardware diagnostics,...)

Still had 3 bsod since our last exchange so nothing really changed. any idea to test ?

Thanks in advance

Please run another set of the data collection app and upload it with your next post
Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum): http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html Please use Option 1 as it provides Event Viewer logs.

Also please, make another copy of this report:
Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here)

There are 3 things that we look at when analyzing BSOD's:
- 3rd party (non-Windows) drivers
- hardware problems
- Windows problems

Assuming that I won't find anything new in the uploaded reports, you may want to try these steps next:

FWIW - don't forget to backup your data. There is a chance that some of the following steps can erase it.
Most Windows problems are solved by getting ALL available Windows Updates
Further problems may be helped by running DISM and SFC commands: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26512-dism-fixing-component-store-corruption-windows-8-a.html (run the /RestoreHealth command even if you don't get any indication of errors with the other commands)
After that, try a Refresh: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2293-refresh-windows-8-a.html
And then a Reset: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2302-reset-windows-8-a.html
