Solved Multiple BSOD a day due to a variety of actions-Window 8.1

I have been getting multiple BSOD over the past couple weeks. Its got to the point where I can't really do anything even remotely "taxing" on my computer without an impending reboot. Playing more lightweight games such as Hearthstone or WoW are guaranteed crashes, as is listening to music in the web browser while doing anything else. Last night in a desperate attempt to correct the situation, I ran the Windows 8.1 refresh option. Unfortunately shortly after rebooting into the fresh install I had another BSOD and multiple more today. Ive run chkdsk on my harddrive, and ran memtests on my RAM, all came back clear. I went so far as to remove my graphics card in an attempt to isolate any potential hardware failure, but on the integrated graphics I received the same errors. I would very much appreciate anyone's insight into what might be causing this as I am pretty much at my wits end. Thank you for your time and expertise. (Also don't make fun of my old computer, she's an old one, but we've been through some good times!)

I don't make fun of older computers - as I can still recall the days when I couldn't afford new hardware.
That being said, there's a point where older hardware just won't support a newer Operating System.
For example, I have a Lenovo x61t tablet that won't work with Win8 - and there's nothing specific about it (other than the fact that it doesn't have these odd problems in Win7). The solution (in my case) was to revert to Win7.

Your BIOS dates from 2009. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

Only 23 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 60 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

1) Remove TrueCrypt and see if that stops the BSOD's. It's driver dates from 2012 and it may not be compatible w/Win8.1
Feel free to reinstall the latest, Win8.1 compatible version if this isn't the cause
2) Update your video drivers (they date from 2012 also) to the latest, Win8.1 compatible version
3) Update your network drivers (they date from 2013, but are from before Win8.1 was released) to the latest, Win8.1 compatible version.

All 4 memory dumps were STOP 0x124 errors. While these are mostly hardware errors, they can also be due to other issues, such as one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers) - and older systems
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

Please start on the hardware diagnostics - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

I appreciate the thorough response. Im starting to believe that this may be a case of hardware failure somewhere. I had been running windows 8.1 since the update came out and it just recently started displaying these issues. Unfortunately my searches for updated BIOS leads me to believe that the 2009 ones are the most updated ones. The first thing I did when I booted windows was install AVAST so I would hope that malware would not be an issue. The only things I have connected to the computer through USB are a USB headset/microphone, and my mouse. (Razer naga 2014)

Whats frustrating me is that my computer idles fine, and I can browse the web with it without incident. Its just once I start a few programs, or do anything beyond the basic web browsing that it reboots.

I took my older laptop with me to Microsoft to see if I could get help making it work there. Even the best minds at MVP Summit were unable to help.

Can you backup your stuff and try a fresh install of Win7? If the problems go away then, you'll have your answer.

Good luck to you!

Aye, I've been looking at the downgrading process back to windows 7. Again, thank you for your time and expertise. Perhaps its time I move onto some new hardware anyway!
