Hi all,

First time posting to forums, I hope I did everything right.

So Since upgrading to windows 8 pro about 2 weeks ago, My computer seems to BSOD with DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. I attached the pulled from the "SF Diagnostic Tool". and attached them to the thread. Could someone take a look at the files and let me know which direction I should take from this point?

Thanks for the help!

Your BIOS dates from 2011. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

Only 20 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 60 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

You have about 8 hard drives. What is the make/model/wattage and age of your Power Supply?
One is designated A: and another is designated B: - I suspect that this may cause issues as these driver letters were originally used for floppy disks - so some software/drivers may not recognize them properly. I'd suggest re-lettering them to another set of letters.

You must update the Intel Management Engine Interface (HECIx64.sys). Here' s the link for it at you mobo's support page: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-P67X-UD3-B3 (rev. 1.0)

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics. Let us know the results and we can move on from there.

So, I attempted to do the easy things first.

1. I checked for available updates for my system, there was one for windows defender.

2. I attempted to update the HECI x64 driver, however, when executing, it stated I did not meet system requirements.

3. changed drive letters of A and B

I wanted to do more research on upgrading BIOS, as I never have before. Will need to do a little research before attempting a BIOS update.

Will keep you posted.

PS. any assistance in performing a BIOS update for this Motherboard would be helpful!!!

Thanks

Leave the BIOS/UEFI flash until last.

What is the exact make/model of your motherboard? Please read it off of the motherboard itself as I can't find the model that's in the dump files.

I'd strongly suggest fixing the Intel Management Engine update first (the model number will help with this)

I've got lot's of advice about updating the BIOS/UEFI
- triple check everything that you do
- print out the instructions and follow them exactly
- don't touch anything during the flash - sit on your hands if necessary
- don't let kids or animals in the room when doing the flash
- don't do the flash during a time when you may get power surges/failures
- if unsure of what's happening - STOP!!! Don't do anything until you ask someone (will require access to another computer).

If the manufacturer has a utility that will update the BIOS from within Windows - USE IT!!!

The point here is that an incorrect flash can physically damage the motherboard.

In your case, the latest BIOS is from March of 2012.
The latest beta BIOS is from August of 2012
And the latest beta UEFI is from March of 2013 (please see the stuff that needs removing before updating to this)

Thanks for the update.

I downloaded the latest stable BIOS from the site, and have placed it on a thumb drive formatted with fat32(waiting on install). All updates have been downloaded (with exception with Bing bar and Zune). When I attempt to install the Intel Management engine update, it states

---------------------------
Error
---------------------------
This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I am attempting to get a hold of someone from gigabyte to help me out on this one, because it doesn't tell me what the requirements are. Online documentation for the mother board have yet to reveal any useful info.

To answer your question about the motherboard; the only Identifiable info I found was the model number P67X-UD3-B3, I will need to remove components to see if I find anything else.

Just a thought about the Intel management driver, could it be that because my BIOS is out of date that the driver will not install?

It's possible, but unlikely IMO. I can't see Intel programming stuff for only certain BIOS's and not others.

Try searching http://downloadcenter.intel.com for the Management Engine and try the different versions that you find there. Since it won't install if it's not the right version - there's no harm in trying as many different one's as you can lay your hands on.

I have a version from a Lenovo that I'll upload in the next post. You can try that also.

I will give it a try once I get off work. Once I Install an updated version of this driver, should I wait and see if the BSOD still occurs, then attempt a BIOS update? or just do both

How you progress is based on how confident you are with your ability to flash the BIOS.
There's no harm in waiting, so it'd be safer to just update the Intel Management Engine and then wait.

While waiting, you can also work on updating these drivers to the latest, Win8.1 compatible versions:

Code:
[FONT=lucida console]aar81xx.sys          Thu Feb 23 16:53:54 2012 (4F46B572)

aar81xx.sys - this driver hasn't been added to the DRT as of this run. Please search Google/Bing for the driver if additional information is needed. Most likely associated with an Adaptec Serial ATA controller driver.

Just a thought here, but check and see which ports the hard drives/SSD's are plugged into.
If any are plugged into the port that uses the Adaptec controller (the one that uses the aar81xx.sys driver) - that might be a cause for a compatibility issue

Attempted to update the intel driver I got from your one drive. downloaded twice and got this result attempting to install

So I went to the Intel website and found a drive I believe to be new than the one I have, but not the latest driver.

BIOS was updated to the latest non-beta update.

At this point the only thing left is to run the Hardware diagnostics correct? So far so good, If it happens again, I will copy the Dump File in another location.

I will update with results from the HW diagnostics when I complete them.

Thanks for the assistance

Looks like Adaptec doesn't have a driver for windows 8, I had the win 7 version. Ohh well, guess I will settle for 6 HDD drives.... Pulling the hardware, Updated all the drivers you listed. rechecked windows update. We will see if Adaptec was the culprit.

Have you had any further BSOD's?
If not, wait for a week or two to be sure that they're gone

If you have had more, then zip up the contents of C:\Windows\Minidump and upload it with your next post (you may have to copy it to the Desktop in order to zip it up).

The Adaptec driver (aar81xx.sys) showed up on 18 May, but hasn't been seen since.
Probably a good thing!

The problem here is if these were 2 separate, unrelated events - or if they were related.
If related, the only thing left in common between them is Logitech and nVidia drivers (the others either aren't present, or have been updated)

Here's what to do for the related stuff:
So, let's start with the Logitech drivers. They are for a video camera.
Either update them (and check to make sure that there is a later version) - or uninstall them and physically unplug the camera from your system (this is temporary until the BSOD's are stopped).

As for the nVidia drivers, I'd suggest:
- downloading a fresh copy of the latest, Win8.1 compatible drivers for your video card
- uninstalling the current nVidia video card related stuff from your system
- install the freshly downloaded drivers.

If not related, then there's several more drivers to consider.
It's also possible that there are further, hidden drivers (actually drivers that exited already) that are at the bottom of this.
But more about that later on.

Here's the other drivers to consider:
nm3.sys - Network Monitor 3 NDIS 6.0 Monitoring Filter Driver
vmm.sys - Virtual Machine Monitor driver
leaslayr.sys - Windows Fabric Lease Layer Device Driver
npf.sys - NetGroup Packet Filter Driver, part of the WinPcap packet capture library
vhdparser.sys - Native VHD Parser (part of Windows)

What virtual device programs do you have installed?
Please uninstall them.
If you don't have any, then please disable Hyper-V in Control Panel...Programs and Features...Turn Windows Features on and off (in the left sidebar).

Please uninstall Network Monitor and the program that uses the NetGroup Packet Filter driver/WinPcap packet capture library

I have no clue about the Windows Fabric thing - it's a server process that isn't used for much anything on users systems (although Lync Server does use it). We'll see what happens and will figure out then if we need to mess with it.

Please double check that you have all applicable Windows Updates. Visit several times in order to be sure.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings
