Random persistent BSOD, unknown cause, new laptop

Hello to everyone at the eightforums community, it is a pleasure and honor to join you here.
I bought an MSI GT70 laptop almost a year ago and have had issues with BSOD's ever since.
At first they were very rare, only occuring every few days and I mostly ignored them thinking that Windows 8 still has its issues and they'll eventually be fixed by the good people of Microsoft.

Long story short, I upgraded to Windows 8.1 about 2-3 months expecting that the update would work the kinks out of the system. Unfortunately BSOD's are still occuring, at the most random of times( while surfing the internet, idle system, playing games, watching movies, installing programs, working on my dissertation paper or projects:mad:, pretty much everything possible).

Returning the laptop is not an option right now, it would mean that i have to send it back to the US all the way from Europe, and I'm a bit afraid of it being lost, stolen or broken on the way there.

Needless to say I am getting fed up with these issues. I tried updating my drivers using the manufacturers files hoping this will solve the problem, but it's still happening. Today i tried debugging the dump files that Windows creates with WinDbg however I've hit a dead end, as I'm not really that computer savvy to properly interpret the results.

I have attached the required dump files and additional details in a .zip file to the thread.

Please help me out guys, I'm lost!

Your Ethernet is disabled. Is this deliberate? If so, why?
FWIW - while the driver may be disabled, it may still load before Windows gets around to disabling it.

Please:
- download a fresh copy of the latest, Win8.1 compatible ethernet driver for your system
- enable the ethernet on your system
- install the updated ethernet driver
- if so desired, disable the ethernet driver AFTER having updated it

FWIW - this is the 2nd one of these that I've seen in Driver Verifier recently: NvStreamKms.sys
Here's a link to the post: http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...artup-lid-closed-dpc-watchdog.html#post379761
Driver Verifier points to NvStreamKms.sys - an nVidia driver that belongs to the nVidia Streaming Kernel service.
Check this post out for a possible fix: https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...ezing-your-pc/
Or, you may want to uninstall the nVidia drivers and then install a fresh copy without the Streaming Kernel Service (I'm not familiar with nVidia drivers, so I don't even know if this is possible).
DON'T FORGET TO TURN DRIVER VERIFIER OFF!!!

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
Alternate link: Disk-Tools.com
Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help

FWIW - I have suspicions about your GFI firewall software - but haven't seen evidence that it's causing problems (just a lot of network stuff in the WER section of MSINFO32). It's driver (SbFw.sys) dates from 2012, so I'd suggest getting the latest, Win8.1 compatible version from Web, Email and Network Security Software and Cloud-based Services

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

winio64.sys Fri Jun 4 00:08:03 2010 (4C087C23)
Looks like it's the WinIO program from here: Utilities
But it also a part of the MSI Dragoon Gaming Center (8.1 version here: MSI Global GT70 2OD )
winio64.sys - this driver hasn't been added to the DRT as of this run. Please search Google/Bing for the driver if additional information is needed.

Please uninstall this one:
NTIOLib_X64.sys Thu Oct 25 06:27:58 2012 (5089142E)
MSI Afterburner driver (known BSOD issues with Windows) Also found to be a part of MSI Live Update 5

    I'm handsome and a snappy dresser :0)
That's a lot of information, I'll get to fixing it right away, thank you for taking time to look this over.
In regards as to why my Killer Wireless Module is disabled, let me explain.
When I purchased the laptop I asked the the people from the shop to upgrade its wireless capabilities to a Intel 6300, but for some reason they decided to leave the Killer module inside the laptop as well, and I've found that when they're both enabled they interfere with each other and it causes the laptop to go ballistic ( constant BSOD's).

I will post here after I've followed your instructions, hopefully the problem will get fixed.

Thanks again.

I followed the above suggestions and haven't had any issues until now.
I got another BSOD referencing the intelppm.sys driver
I attached the dump file.

You don't mention if you have installed the new version of the MSI Dragoon Gaming Center.
Please uninstall it in order to test and see if that stops the BSOD's.

Please remove the Sunbelt Personal Firewall and enable the Windows Firewall.
It appears that the Sunbelt Personal Firewall is no longer being supported.

It appears that the Killer device still has drivers running on your system: Driver Reference Table - bwcW8x64.sys ( Killer Bandwidth Control Filter Driver )
Please uninstall it. If unable to uninstall it, please post back for manual remove instructions.

As long as you're updating stuff, check at the MSI site for an update to the Intel Management Engine. If found, please install it.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions (again): Driver Verifier Settings

I forgot to mention that I did install the latest version of the Dragoon service, and installed the driver suite for the Killer card too. However I don't have a firewall installed, the only one running is the one provided by Microsoft. I will update the Intel stuff and see if that solves the issues.

At least a part of the Sunbelt firewall program is running - it is the SbFw.sys driver mentioned in the memory dumps
If unable to remove it from Control Panel...Programs and Features, then try this manual removal:
1) Create a Restore Point using System Restore
2) Create a Repair disc (Recovery Drive in Win8.1):
Win 8 - Press "WIN" and "R" to open the Run dialog...type "RECDISC" (without the quotes) and press ENTER
Win 8.1 - Go to the Start Screen and type in "recoverydrive" (one word, without the quotes). That will start the recovery drive process. You will need a USB drive of at least 512 mB - and all data will be erased off of it. If copying the recovery partition the drive size will be much, much larger (16 - 32 gB drive required).
3) Test the System Repair disc/Recovery Drive to make sure that you can get to the System Restore entry when you boot from the disk/drive (you may also want to try actually using System Restore to make sure that it works)
4) Download this free program (Autoruns for Windows) and use it to disable any instances of SbFw.sys that are starting (or any other Sunbelt Firewall entries) (DO NOT DELETE - only disable by removing the checkmark in the left hand column)
5) Check in Device Manager (to include showing hidden devices from the View menu item) and ensure that any instances of SbFw.sys (or any other Sunbelt Firewall entries) are "Uninstalled" (DO NOT DISABLE THESE).
6) Check in the Services applet (services.msc) to be sure any instances of SbFw.sys or any other Sunbelt Firewall entries are disabled.
7) Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename the SbFw.sys driver to SbFw.BAD (search the hard drive for it if it's not in C:\Windows\System32\drivers).

In the event that the system doesn't boot:

1) Boot from the System Repair disc/Recovery Drive and use the Command Prompt option to rename SbFw.BAD to SbFw.sys
Code:
ren C:\Windows\System32\drivers\[FONT=lucida console][FONT=lucida console]SbFw[/FONT][/FONT].BAD C:\Windows\System32\drivers\[FONT=lucida console][FONT=lucida console]SbFw[/FONT][/FONT].sys
2) Boot from the System Repair disc/Recovery Drive and use the System Restore option to restore the system to a point before the changes were made.

Good luck!

Hello again John. I only just followed the instructions in your latest post just today, i thought I'd let the laptop do its thing for another week before interfering and see if BSOD's will still occur.

Sure enough they did, and so I got to following the above instructions. I disabled any running instances of GFI Software i found with the Autoruns program ( I am still baffled by the fact that i had GFI Software running on my laptop, even though i had never installed any of their apps), checked device manager and the services app for any other running instances of sbfw.sys (did not find any), and finally renamed the driver to sbfw.BAD.

The laptop booted just fine as far as i can tell. I will be attaching an archive of the latest dump files, maybe they will unfold the underlying cause.

Thank you again for taking time to help me.:thumb:

There's 2 options here:
1) wait to see if removing the SbFw.sys driver fixed things
2) attempt to fix more stuff while waiting for further BSOD's

As waiting doesn't require me to type anything, I'll work on fixing other stuff here. It's your choice to start with it or not.

- uninstall Dragoon Gaming center (and the old winio64.sys driver). If driver isn't removed, use above procedure substituting winio64 for SbFw and substituting Dragoon/Dragon Gaming for Sunbelt Firewall.
- update Synaptic Touchpad drivers to the latest, Win8.1 compatible version.
