    Crash on startup

    So here's the problem:
I shut the machine down, everything seems to be OK. When I turn it on again, on FIRST startup my PC shuts down again right after that ugly fish comes up on the screen. When I start it then, everything works as it should.

Anyone else having this problem? Solutions?

This type of behavior often happens when the RAM settings are incorrect in the bios. The reason it happens is because the memory is not warmed up yet to operating temperature. And because of this, incorrect settings make themselves "visible" by causing errors.

As the memory warms up to operating temperature, there is a lot less chance of incorrect values causing issues. So this is why it doesn't work right away but then after, it seems the machine is great.

You are welcome to run CPU-Z and post screenshots of the memory and spd tabs if you would like us to inspect your settings for correctness. I would definitely follow Usasma's helpful advice too.

I've seen this issue plenty of times and memory settings are usually the root cause.

Sorry, I wasn't able to respond sooner.

First, GMan. This isn't the case. I happens all the time. Even when I turn it on seconds after shut down. Also, it started with W8.

Usasma, I was able to turn BootLog on, but I have no idea where to look for it now

    The log is named ntbtlog.txt
And it's located in the root (C:\) of your hard drive
Another article I just saw also states that it may be in C:\Windows - so check in both places

You are very welcome to post screenshots of when running CPU-Z under system load - the spd tab and memory tab.

The same advice goes for you too, to follow what Usasma is saying. Perhaps he can help you if memory is not the issue. It might be though.

Well, I can't find the bootlog txt. It's not in any of the mentioned folders and search can't find it either.

It's common to think that one OS is a problem and the other is not because "one of them is good for a long time".

Very often, an OS just drives the machine in a different manner and shows the hardware issues while one does not.

An excellent universal example of this is that users say perfect machine on x32. on x64 bsods all the time.

That's because x64 uses extra parts of memory that x32 can not address. In a case like this, the bad address can only be accessed by x64. So a problem, but it only shows on one OS.

There are many other different examples. Perhaps simply 8 driving the machine differently than 7.
