Computer freezing randomly.

My computer has done this with XP, then with W7, W8 and now with W8.1. I'm using my computer and suddenly it just freezes completely. It freezes when using Google Chrome, Spotify... My son likes to watch videos a lot, so first I thought it could be my graphics card.

I bought a new graphics card, but no help, still the same problem. I re-installed my Windows cleaning totally the hard-drive, no help.

I created an "artificial" BSOD with the instructions given, but the blue screen appeared already before the system even started, so it must be one of the non-Microsoft drivers causing it(?).

My computer:
Asus P5N-T Deluxe
Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2,4 GHz
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660
Seagate Barracuda ST325041
2x Kingston DDR2 memory 2GB

I have random freezes too and my problem is the hard disk. Maybe your HDD has also a problem. You can check it for bad sectors by using free diagnostic software like CrystalDiscInfo.

There are no memory dumps in the uploaded files, please do the following:
Upload Dump Files:
NOTE: If using a disk cleaning utility, please stop using it while we are troubleshooting your issues.
Please go to C:\Windows\Minidump and zip up the contents of the folder. Then upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Left click on the first minidump file.
Hold down the "Shift" key and left click on the last minidump file.
Right click on the blue highlighted area and select "Send to"
Select "Compressed (zipped) folder" and note where the folder is saved.
Upload that .zip file with your next post.

If you have issues with "Access Denied" errors, try copying the files to your desktop and zipping them up from there. If it still won't let you zip them up, post back for further advice.

If you don't have anything in that folder, please check in C:\Windows for a file named MEMORY.DMP. If you find it, zip it up and upload it to a free file hosting service. Then post the link to it in your topic so that we can download it.

Also, search your entire hard drive for files ending in .dmp, .mdmp, and .hdmp. Zip up any that you find and upload them with your next post.

Then, follow the directions here to set your system for Minidumps (much smaller than the MEMORY.DMP file): Set MiniDumpMore info on dump file options here: Overview of memory dump file options for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2

Well, after a long while I'm back with this same issue. It's still here, but as I had the opportunity to use an other computer, I let it be. But now I need this PC again and the problem remains unsolved. I attached the minidump files.

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum): http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html Please use Option 1 as it provides Event Viewer logs.

Temp was 66°C on sensor 1, this is pretty high (but not excessively so).
It's possible that the temp goes higher during use.
I'd figure out what's running at 66°C and work on fixing it's cooling status.

Still need this report also:
Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")

Your BIOS dates from 2010. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard. If possible, use the "inside Windows" flash mechanism (if your OEM provides one).

ASACPI.sys (Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility driver) is known to cause BSOD's when an outdated version is used. Yours dates from 2004.
It must be updated to the latest, Win8.1 compatible version. In the event that you can't find a Win8.1 compatible version, I'd strongly suggest that you revert to Win7 or earlier in order to achieve stability in this system.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

Have you fixed the overheating issue?

Your BIOS dates from 2010. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard. If possible, use the "inside Windows" flash mechanism (if your OEM provides one).

You have a Langaton D-Link DWA-140 N -USB-sovitin:
I do not recommend using wireless USB network devices. Especially in Win8/8.1 systems.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7 and later - using Vista drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
Should you want to keep using these devices, be sure to have Win8/8.1 drivers - DO NOT use Vista drivers!!!
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.

C: drive only has about 6% free space. Windows likes 15% free space in order to perform stuff "behind the scenes" without adversely affecting the system's performance. Please free up 15% on ALL hard drives (you can get away with 10% on larger drives and won't notice a large performance penalty)

Many Live Kernel Events in the WER section of MSINFO32. Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Many Windows Update errors in the WER section of MSINFO32. If you're having problems with Windows Updates, please post over in the Windows Updates & Activation forum for some expert assistance there.

The latest memory dump was corrupted. Here's the results of the one from August:

The memory dump blames hdaudio.sys/nvhda32v.sys - please update your Audio drivers (to include the nVidia chipset drivers also) to the latest, Win8.1 compatible version.

The drivers that are [DEL]struckout[/DEL] don't have updates available (AFAIK).
DO NOT delete them, just leave them be.

I found a new driver for DWA-140 here:
http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/support/product/dwa-140-wireless-n-usb-adapter?revision=deu_revb#downloads
I have a revB3 product, so I chose Windows Drivers (Rev B3) 2.02. At least I can get on internet, so it works.

I removed stuff from drive C:, now there's over 20GB of space. I removed all the dirt from inside the computer. It's better and doesn't get so hot anymore. It crashes less than before, just once or twice in the evening.

In the Event Viewer, I tried to save all Events in Custom View as Admin.evtx, but I got a message that the file cannot be found?!? The big problem seems to be that Asus doesn't provide Win7/Win8 drivers for my motherboard P5N-T Deluxe...

OK, thanks, I will continue with the other issues...

Hi Rantanen ^_^,

Unfortunately, Usasma is very busy with work and is having problems with his system as well.

Are you still having the issues? If yes, I would ask you to upload the freshly generated SF Diagnostic ZIP File so that the latest Dump files can be analysed.

Also, what was the result of the advice given by Usasma?

Let me know how it goes ^_^
