    BSOD Kernal_Security_Check_Failure.

    Hi there guys,

I've been having issues with a BSOD Kernal Security Check Failure. I believe it started only recently after I updated my BIOS in an effort to eliminate a issue where my whole computer would lock up and freeze while playing video games.
I don't believe I've fixed that issue (Looking like a separate hardware issue) and now I have this to deal with!
It seems happen mostly when I'm playing anything with sound, via USB and via optical it happens, in skype calls or watching videos.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not very technically minded!

    Win8.1Pro - Finally!!!

I noticed that you don't have Secure Boot and/or UEFI enabled. If you were having problems with it and changed it, please let us know.
It's not necessary to enable it now. But, should you reinstall Windows at some point in the future, please enable it first.

I mention this because it may happen that (one day) the system won't boot. This can be caused by a program changing your UEFI settings, or an update of the UEFI resetting it to default values.

To test and see if this is the cause, boot into the UEFI and see if the settings have been changed. If uncertain, try with Secure Boot both on and off (and the UEFI on UEFI or Legacy (CSM))

If it still doesn't boot after trying this, then move on to other troubleshooting tools as it's not likely to be due to this.
Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
    Alternate link: Disk-Tools.com
Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help
Check in Device Manager to see if there's an error with your USB xHCI device (if there is no problem with it, then ignore this paragraph).
If that is the case, right click on the device and select "Uninstall" - then reboot and see if that fixed the problem.
If not, then post back here for further suggestions.

Ensure that you have ALL Windows Updates (it may take several trips to see/get them all).

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

DO NOT uninstall this one - ONLY update it:

    szkg64.sys Mon Sep 26 11:16:17 2011 (4E809741)
Most likely a component of StopZilla
szkg64.sys - this driver hasn't been added to the DRT as of this run. Please search Google/Bing for the driver if additional information is needed.

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings
