BSOD when watching videos, started out of nowhere

I bought new computer parts in January and was having several BSOD issues with Windows 7. I decided to reformat using Windows 8.1 and had not had a single crash up until about 2 weeks ago. It started as a single crash. Then another a few days later. Now I'm to the point where I get several crashes a night.

Crashes tend to happen when watching videos, but has also occurred as soon as Windows finished loading from sleep or restart.

I purchased a new hard drive this evening thinking that my hard drive was the issue, as it was one of only 2 parts I didn't upgrade when I upgraded my computer (though I did reformat my HDD several times after installing the new hardware). I installed Windows 8.1 on the new HDD and installed Windows updates with no issues. But shortly after I got another couple of crashes. I cleared the new HDD and put it back in the box since the hard drive wasn't the issue, so the crash dump files I'm including are from the original HDD. I got 2 crashes on the new HDD before clearing it, and the error messages were similar to what I was getting with the original HDD. (KMODE)

Any help is appreciated. I'm beyond frustrated with the issues I've had since upgrading my computer.

I noticed that you don't have Secure Boot and/or UEFI enabled. If you were having problems with it and changed it, please let us know.
It's not necessary to enable it now. But, should you reinstall Windows at some point in the future, please enable it first.

I mention this because it may happen that (one day) the system won't boot. This can be caused by a program changing your UEFI settings, or an update of the UEFI resetting it to default values.

To test and see if this is the cause, boot into the UEFI and see if the settings have been changed. If uncertain, try with Secure Boot both on and off (and the UEFI on UEFI or Legacy (CSM))

If it still doesn't boot after trying this, then move on to other troubleshooting tools as it's not likely to be due to this.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol 120% software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
Alternate link: Disk-Tools.com
Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help

Please uinstall MSI Live Update as one of it's drivers (NTIOLib_X64.sys) has been associated w/BSOD's on some Windows systems.
Feel free to reinstall the latest version once the system is stabilized.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

dc3d.sys Wed May 18 04:07:24 2011 (4DD37E3C)
Filter Driver for Identification of Microsoft Hardware Wireless Mouse and Keyboard Device Models - Microsoft IntelliType Pro / IntelliPoint
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=dc3d.sys

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

I noticed that you don't have Secure Boot and/or UEFI enabled. If you were having problems with it and changed it, please let us know.

I haven't done anything with those settings.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol 120% software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).

I've uninstalled Alcohol 120% and ran the program you linked.

Please uinstall MSI Live Update as one of it's drivers (NTIOLib_X64.sys) has been associated w/BSOD's on some Windows systems.

I uninstalled MSI Live Update.

I'm unsure what to do here. I searched Microsoft's website for Intellipoint and see that they have changed the name of this program. I'm not sure if downloading the new program will update what needs to be updated. Thoughts?

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

My computer has crashed 3 times since doing the things you've recommended that I have been able to do (everything but the dc3d.sys file), so I attempted to run Driver Verifier. I got to the end where I select the drivers to test, and only had 3 drivers showing, all of which are Microsoft drivers.

NTIOLib_X64.sys Wed Oct 20 02:45:49 2010 (4CBE901D)
MSI Afterburner. I never installed this to begin with. I went ahead and updated the software.
dc3d.sys Wed May 18 04:07:24 2011 (4DD37E3C)
I can't figure out what to do here. Mentioned above.
sptd.sys Thu Oct 31 11:26:53 2013 (527276BD)
Part of Alcohol 120%. Uninstalled and ran the program you linked.

There is something very wrong here - my system (a Samsung NP780) has well over 200 drivers.

Please follow the steps again very carefully. If it continues to show only 3 drivers, then check in C:\Windows\System32\drivers
and select all the "System files" (those that end in .sys) - I have 368 on my system. If you only have 3 drivers there, then there is most likely a huge problem with your Windows installation.

I'd then suggest:
- checking for malware
- a Refresh of Windows

Make sure MSI Afterburner is uninstalled.
Make sure MSI Live Update is uninstalled.
That will make sure that that driver is removed

Zip up and upload the contents of C:\Windows\Minidump. You may have to copy it to your desktop in order to zip it up.

I've done everything on here but the Windows Refresh.

I'm not sure why only 3 drivers were showing earlier this morning, but when I tried to run it again it had more drivers listed, both Microsoft and non-Microsoft.

I'm including the crash files you requested.

Something I forgot to mention on the original post is that I had completely reformatted this hard drive last week after the crashes started happening more frequently. I've only installed a small number of programs since reformatting the hard drive, but I have updated using Windows Updater.

None of these memory dumps are Driver Verifier enabled. Was the system running Driver Verifier when they happened (They are from 17:00 (5pm) on 22 April, 2014)

The Intellipoint stuff hadn't been updated yet - so we'll wait for memory dumps after that.

If the system wasn't running Driver Verifier, please run it again (and let the system crash) before zipping up and uploading the contents of C:\Windows\Minidump

None of these memory dumps are Driver Verifier enabled. Was the system running Driver Verifier when they happened (They are from 17:00 (5pm) on 22 April, 2014)
I thought it was, at least for the last one. I've been running Verifier ever since I made that post yesterday at least. While my system has been running very sluggish, I haven't had any crashes since the last one included in the files I shared.

The Intellipoint stuff hadn't been updated yet - so we'll wait for memory dumps after that.
Actually the new program has been installed. They changed it to "Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center".

If the system wasn't running Driver Verifier, please run it again (and let the system crash) before zipping up and uploading the contents of C:\Windows\Minidump
I'm going to go through the Verifier settings once again and just make sure it's set up properly.

That's why I asked - just because Verifier is enabled doesn't mean it's going to give results.
In most cases, this means that a 3rd party driver isn't to blame - so it must be either hardware or Windows.

After double checking the Verifier settings again, let it run for another 24 hours "just in case"
If it doesn't crash after that, then it's probably not the 3rd party drivers.

EDIT: please make sure that you've updated the Intel stuff to the latest, Win8.1 version. I noted that the Intel Management Engine and the Intel Smart Connect drivers date from before Win8.1 came out. Don't worry about intelppm.sys - you get it from Windows Update.

Try these free diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
Let us know the results and we'll see if that tells us anything.

Another option is the typical Windows troubleshooting tools:
- sfc.exe /scannow
- DISM commands
- Refresh the system (backup your data first)
- Reset the system (backup your data first

Here's the stuff to get started with that:
Then please run the following DISM commands to see if there's any problems with the system (from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt). Press Enter after each one:
Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

If the problem is fixable, you can use this command to repair it (from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt). Press Enter after typing it:
Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

From this article: Repair a Windows Image

You can also run sfc.exe /scannow from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt to check for further corruption.

I deleted the Verifier settings I had created. I had one random crash with an error that I haven't seen before, and then I turned Verifier back on and ran it for over 24 hours. I played a few video games and watched YouTube a lot while driver verification was running hoping to cause a crash, but my computer never crashed while Verifier was running. I'm uploading the crash that happened in between each Verifier session.

I tried three different online malware scanners and came back clean each time. I also ran sfc.exe /scannow and the DISM commands. No issues with either of these tests. I have not run a Refresh or Reset yet at this time.

I've also deleted the Verifier settings again. I'm going to see if I continue to get crashes now that it's not running.

It's looking more and more like a hardware problem to me (could also be BIOS/UEFI)

Check to see if there's a BIOS/UEFI update available for your system. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS/UEFI updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.
