BSOD or very slow PC when using ANY backup software

    Hi Guys,

This is very weird, and the only times that it happens is when using backup software.

I use Paragon Hard Disk Manager 14, and when running backups of drives the system crashes, with errors to ntoskrnl.exe and ntdll.sys. So I tried a couple of other backup software (Acronis True Image and Easeus ToDo Backup) and still the same thing happens. When using the inbuilt Windows 8.1 Image Backup the computer is very slow, cannot do anything else!

Searched my PC for the two files, no sign of ntdll.sys!

I have attached a screen shot of the ntoskrnl.exe files found.

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hopefully solved my own problem.

I changed a SATA cable to my drive which has the OS, and have run Paragon Backup, and now all seems to be OK.

    Win8.1Pro - Finally!!!

I hope that you've fixed the issue.

FYI - ntdll is likely ntdll.dll
Both it and ntoskrnl.exe are core components of the operating system.

Should the problem return, post back with this info and we'll have a look at it: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions Please use Option 1 as it provides Event Viewer logs.

    Hi John,

    Thanks for your interest.

I am pretty sure it was the SATA cable. I have run a few images and backups since I replaced the cable and no problems to report.

So hopefully that was the problem.

    Thanks again for your interest.

I'm one of the traditional type of Windows users who boots straight to their desktop and uses third party software for the most part. I have been using Syncback SE Free for a long time now with Win7. It works well. I like the mirror function and the ability for syncback to detect small changes and allows you to view different files. When I use the mirror function in syncback, it scans the drive/folder and only copy/delete the...

Solved Cannot find backup software! in Performance & Maintenance
Windows 7 had a back up and restore application, including creating a system image and recovery DVD. I see nothing under Windows 8 (And I've really looked, but I will be glad to admit that I'm wrong if I am!) Do I need to purchase back up software ? Please advise! Thank you
