2 Kernel Security Check Failure & 1 DPC Watchdog Violation

Within the last 24 hours I received 2 Kernel Security Check Failures and 1 DPC Watchdog Violation. As best I can tell, the first Kernel error was while I was installing Dropbox. I received it again when I was trying to remove the SF Diagnostic Tool from my machine. I received the Watchdog Violation while restarting Reimage software. The following output from the SF Diagnostic Tool is from *after* these 3 errors and is also after Reimage finally finished fixing all it found and came up clean on a rerun.

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!

How did you "fix" it with the reimage?
If it's a new installation, the results of the memory dump analysis may not be significant.
Also, the uploaded reports are incomplete. Please rerun the data collection app and let it run for at least 15 minutes (or until the app itself says that it's done).

The system looks well maintained, with most drivers being up to date (more so than I normally see).
If the BSOD's continue, I'd suggest running Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

The memory dumps don't point to anything specific, but are (IMO) suggestive of a misbehaving driver (one writing bad info to memory spaces that it doesn't own). Raw stack traces seem to suggest USB or network issues - but that's an awful lot for just a suspicion that I have.

No worries about the delay!

Regarding the 'fix' I did with the Reimage software, I just allowed the software to run, fix what it found, and rerun. The last run I did (a few days ago) came up clean so I moved on to other possible solutions to my Kernel Security Check Failure issue.

I just reran the SF Diagnostic Tool (as Administrator with my anti-virus and firewall shut off) and it ran **very** quickly. The zip file of this output is attached but I fear it is again going to be incomplete. I do not know how to make it run for 15 minutes ... Please advise.

I have received the Kernel Security Check Failure many times since I first posted about it. On my own, I started updating drivers as well since I first posted here about my issue. I will now resume with driver updates using the Driver Verifier you recommend.

Which reimage software are you using? Please provide a link so we can be sure we're talking about the same thing.

When you ran the tool again, all it collected was minidumps (but there were 10, the last time there were 3).
As for the other info, here's what I'll need:
MSINFO32:
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

If you're having difficulties with the format, please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type (or copy/paste) "msinfo32 /nfo %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\TEST.NFO" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to Desktop to retrieve the TEST.NFO file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. Then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

systeminfo:
Please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type (or copy/paste) "systeminfo.exe >%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\systeminfo.txt" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to Desktop to retrieve the syteminfo.txt file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. Then zip up the .txt file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

Elevated Command Prompt:
Win7/Vista: Click on the Start button and type "cmd" (without the quotes). At the top of the search box you'll see cmd.exe appear. Right click on it and select "Run as administrator".
Win8: Press the Win key and the X key at the same time. When the Power User menu pops up in the lower left corner of the screen, press the A key.

Driver Verifier will cause BSOD's - and we'll want to collect the Minidumps from them in order to see what it points at.
You may also want to start with these free diagsnostics (start with the malware scans as malware can cause the Kernel Security Check Failure error message.

Just a hunch on my part - but try removing AVG.
Also remove MalwareBytes and ensure that you turn on Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall.
Feel free to revert ack to AVG if this doesn't help.

Here is the requested MSINFO32 data. Both files are contained in the zip file.
View attachment 41188

When trying to gather the systeminfo data, I am receiving 'Access is denied'. I tried your guidance of accessing cmd via the 'WinKey - X' - A key sequence. I also tried by making a new desktop shortcut for the 'cmd' command, renaming it 'Elevated cmd', and editing the Properties to indicate 'Run as Administrator' ... and still, I receive the 'Access is denied' error message. Please advise.

You lost me a bit with the following:
Driver Verifier will cause BSOD's - and we'll want to collect the Minidumps from them in order to see what it points at.
You may also want to start with these free diagsnostics (start with the malware scans as malware can cause the Kernel Security Check Failure error message.

Just a hunch on my part - but try removing AVG.
Also remove MalwareBytes and ensure that you turn on Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall.
Feel free to revert ack to AVG if this doesn't help.

I will next return to working with Driver Verifier. It sounds as though I should run SF_Diagnostic_Tool after each BSOD and provide those files to you. Do I have that right?

When you say 'You may also want to start with these free diagnostics' ... what free diagnostics are you referring to? What do I need to do here that I am not already doing?

Must I remove AVG and MalwareBytes, or may I just disable them? I understand that if I shut off AVG and MalwareBytes I need to simultaneously turn on Windows Defender and Windows Firewall.

Thanks so much for your time!

Don't worry about the systeminfo report for now.

You can either run the SF_Diagnostic tool after each crash, or you can just zip up the ocntents of the C:\Windows\Minidump directory and upload it (you may have to copy it to your Desktop in order to zip it).

Sorry, I forgot the link for the diagnostics - it's here: Hardware Diagnostics

Uninstall AVG and MalwareBytes. Drivers/components remain in memory when they're disabled.

I have uninstalled AVG & MalwareBytes. I have turned Windows Firewall on. I am not able to turn Windows Defender back on. I have posted a request for help with WD here: WD Error Code 0x8007139f when trying to turn WD back on in Windows 8.1 - Microsoft Community . Please let me know if I need to remove that ... I wasn't sure whether I should seek help on WD elsewhere or keep all correspondence for my issues here in this forum.

I do not have any writable CDs or DVDs on hand. I will get those and proceed with the Hardware Diagnostics and with the collection of the Driver Verifier dumps from SF Diagnostic Tool.

The problem with multiple topics is that one might not know what the other is doing.

As this is a Security problem, and your security isn't working properly - I have to wonder about malware.
The folks helping you with the Windows Defender issue should suggest free scans to rule out malware.
If they don't, here's my list of free scans (but it hasn't been updated in a long time): Free Online AntiMalware Resources

Good luck!

From your list of free scans, I am running them one by one top to bottom and have not found any issues yet. The one for Avast wants to install RegClean Pro. Are you comfortable with that utility? I have seen controversial reviews on it I believe, some even indicating it is a scam that does more harm than good to the registry. I am going to skip it for now as I believe it finds several hundreds of items to supposedly fix but charges $ to fix more than the first 15.

I've removed the Avast scan from my list

I do not use registry cleaners, and encourage others not to use them.
This stems from issues that I had with them back in the XP days (they damaged my registry) - and the recommendations of several knowledgeable people who's opinions I respect.

If you haven't found any malware after running a few of the scans, then that's enough for now.

In order to get Windows Defender on as you suggested, I ended up needing to refresh my Windows 8.1 system. Does the refresh process have any effect on the Kernel issue I was having? I am wondering if my original issue is now kind of a moot point due to my performing a refresh, or if I would be wise to resume with the Hardware Diagnostics and gathering of Minidumps as previously discussed.

It's possible that the Refresh has fixed your issue - but only time will tell.
In general, I usually wait a couple of weeks before figuring that the BSOD's are "fixed".

It won't hurt to finish the hardware diagnostics, and it doesn't take me long to run the minidumps - so continue on with it "just in case".

FYI, I am still working on obtaining the hardware diagnostics. I wanted to boot from a USB flash drive, and it turns out doing so from my Toshiba laptop is not exactly straight forward. So I am still deciphering the instructions on how to do that. Thank you for your patience with me ...
