So earlier I installed Windows 8 over Windows 7 (upgraded), and it was running almost flawlessly at first. I needed to update some drivers so I restarted my computer. It booted up just fine, however I could not access the login page at all. It was just a blank blue screen (not BSOD), and my cursor which I could move around.

I thought that the upgrade was the problem, so I eventually got around to dual booting Windows 7 and 8. The same thing happened, with it working fine at first, restarting the computer and facing the blank blue screen, not able to access Windows 8. Any idea what might have caused this? I don't this issue to be the cause of me not using a beautiful OS.

Thanks!

okay I haven't solved the problem, but i'm 100 percent sure it's an NVidia driver problem.

When I installed the newest windows 8 drivers from NVidia, I got that startup issue, however when I went into safe mode and uninstalled the drivers, it booted back up again flawlessly. (it might be an optimus problem, i'm using a laptop), anyways I hope NVidia fixes this problem soon :/

Edit: it is a confirmed NVidia problem. 295.73 & Windows 8 CP - NVIDIA Forums
apparently, it's a laptop (with optimus) issue

If it's an nVidia problem, you should be able to boot into Safe Mode. Can you do that?

yeah I already did that, booted into safe mode and unistalled the NVidia drivers, and now it boots up flawlessly, unfortunately we'll have to wait for updated NVidia drivers to use the gpu ):

EDIT: FIXED IT!!! I don't know exactly why or how, but I reverted back to the intel windows 7 drivers, installed Microsoft framework 3.5 (I think the lack of this was the problem), reinstalled the NVidia drivers, and now it works like I should. I shall test framerates soon!

Try running sfc /scannow command from a command prompt, even if you must boot to install media to get to it.

When I tinkered with update to 8.1, I needed to do that to get the system up at all.
