    BSOD irql_not_less_or_equal error

My computer just recently got an "BSOD irql_not_less_or_equal", how can I fix it or determine the cause of it? Also when I restarted my computer, it just appeared as an black screen and took 10-15 minutes to load, not sure if that had anything to do with the BSOD error or not

The black screen may be related to the BSOD - but we have to fix the BSOD first.
If the black screen remains, then we'll troubleshoot it.

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum): Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

You have not updated to Win8.1 - is there any particular reason for this?

Only 135 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 160 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

    This device is disabled:
HP Truevision HD USB\VID_064E&PID_C336&MI_00\6&339E702A&0&0000 This device is disabled.
Is this deliberate? If so, why? Please update it's drivers to the latest available Win8 version.

Lot's of Live Kernel Events and lot's of STOP 0x141 errors in the WER section of MSINFO32.
Please try the steps here: Video TDR Timeout - 0x116 + 0x117 - Sysnative Forums

    Also, Please do the following:
    - open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
    - expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
    - right click on Administrative Events
    - select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
    - save the file as Admin.evtx
    - zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
    - upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

For further assistance with the drivers, please provide the exact model number of your HP Envy SleekBook 6 system

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Yes, some of the software I have is not compatible with 8.1 quite yet. Could it be that I don't have 160 because I only install the reccommended/critical ones and not the optional ones? I checked every driver in device manager for updates, and it says windows has determined they are up to date. Also I got a couple VPN programs on my computer, not sure which may be outdated but checking each one right now. I haven't had the BSOD but one time, could it of just been an one time thing?

Attachment 39651 Which would be the OpenVPN driver that is outdated?

    Win8.1Pro - Finally!!!

Checking for updates in Device Manager only checks Windows/Microsoft update. Not all manufacturer's provide drivers for this, so the results aren't fully accurate.

The Admin Event Viewer log is full of network errors - mostly DNS issues and chrome.exe crashes.

The VPN driver would be the one that you've instructed to use one of those devices.
It's the VPN program that needs updating in this case.

You'll still need to ensure that the wired and wireless drivers are Win8.1 compatible.

This is in addition to the video checks that I suggested earlier.

Alright, checking individual sites for driver updates also. Is there anything I can do about DNS or chrome.exe crashes? I believe I found the VPN software that needs updated. I looked up LV_TrackerX64.sys and it says it's related to Autnonomy Connected Backup, since that came on my laptop when I bought it, and now the trial is up, should I just uninstall it? I checked ATI's site for updates for the "video checks" and I think mines up to date, not 100% sure.

    Uninstall the Autonomy stuff.

DNS issues (and, most likely the chrome issues) is due to something wrong with the network connections
Most likely it's related to the VPN software
The way to test is to remove the VPN software and see if the problems continue.

If they don't continue, then install a freshly downloaded copy of the latest, Win8 compatible version of the VPN software

You can check the latest version of the video drivers by looking at the drivers for the display adapter in Device Manager.

Going to uninstall a lot of this bloatware that came on this laptop, I should've when I got it. Alright how can I check if the problems are still existing? The driver appears up to date: Attachment 39710

Don'e use the in-built Windows functions to check for updates.
They only check Windows/Microsoft Update - and not all manufacturer's provide updated/timely driver updates there.

Check laptop video drivers at the laptop manufacturer's website.
