Error 10016 DCOM Local Activation Permission

    Error 10016 DCOM Local Activation Permission

    My error log is absolutely swamped with messages re "Cannot start DCOM". Several logged ever second, it seems. The error log is unreadable because of this.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Event 10016
    The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {C2F03A33-21F5-47FA-B4BB-156362A2F239}
    and APPID {316CDED5-E4AE-4B15-9113-7055D84DCC97}
    to the user NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE SID (S-1-5-19) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

    I am very IT literate but I am having no joy with this and I actually need to read the error log to troubleshoot another problem.

    Please is anyone able to talk me through how to get this resolved?

    Thanks MasterChief!
    Yeah - I've been following some instructions about how to sort out permissions etc for DCOM. (thread wi. nice screenshots)
    Numerous event id 10016 errors win 8 pro 64 bit
    Even though it seems very likely that a permissions fix is behind this, it didn't immediately help though. I was extremely tired and unfocussed though, so might have done something wrong. Re-visiting again.

    I started following the advise in the thread you referred to.

    DONE, and also added the problematic App ID to the exception list - do not check. Note AppID to exclude should be in curly brackets.
    Another possible fix:
    In Group Policy Editor (run: gpedit.msc), go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Distributed COM > Application Compatibility and enable "allow local activation security check exemptions"
    Turned off SearchIndexer - not related but mentioned in the post. Good riddance!

    Turn off all but Error messages in the Event Log. This appeared to already have been done.
    0x0001 was the value in the the Eventlogging key which was already present. I didn't add it..

    I'm really strugling with the new format of the Event Viewer - it looks completely different from back in NT4 days. I don't know where to find the errors that cause BSOD.

    Still no joy!!!! It's still trying to start something or rather and goes completely overboard with the logging when this doesn't work.

    SOLUTION:

    In Group Policy Editor (run: gpedit.msc), go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Distributed COM > Application Compatibility and enable "allow local activation security check exemptions".

    Also check the other option.

    Refer to your Event Log to get the ID for App that is causing problems.

    Add the problematic App ID to the exception list - do not check.
    Note: AppID to exclude should be in curly brackets.
    Value should be "1".

    lol That's in my post I linked you to, right here on EF.

    Thanks for rep.

    Oooo you're saying that you had to add the AppId. Gotcha. Cool deal.
