Solved Different BSODs, sometimes crashes or reboots without BSOD

Hello,

I've been experiencing seemingly random BSODs, mostly during gaming but also after gaming or even before doing anything at all.

Sometimes, but much less often, there's been random reboots or crashes without a BSOD.

What I've tried so far.
  • Updated drivers for graphics, network and chipset.
  • Uninstalled Avast, now using Windows Defender
  • Reinstalled Windows
  • Memtest86+ for all my RAM together, 30 passes, no errors
  • Memtest86+ for each piece of RAM alone, 70-75 passes each, no errors

All the memory dumps in my archive are from after reinstalling in Windows, before that I also experienced the same kind of issues.

Between the BSOD of Jan 4 and Jan 17 I upgraded my graphics card from MSI 6950 to Sapphire R9 290. Same issues with both cards.

My full system specs are in my profile.

Thanks in advance!

Good troubleshooting steps. I commend you.

We have a 0x116 stop on our hands. That's a tdr timeout: Graphics adapter could not re-initialize, so it takes Windows down with it.

Code:
LGBusEnum LGBusEnum.sys Mon Nov 23 20:36:48 2009

Give your Logitech keyboard driver friend an update that he needs:

Logitech Support - Downloads, Manuals, FAQs & More

And Logitech gamepad driver also is asking for an update:

Code:
LGVirHid LGVirHid.sys Mon Nov 23 20:36:48 2009 (4B0B38B0)

Logitech Support - Downloads, Manuals, FAQs & More

OpenVPN software needs to be removed (better) or updated:

Code:
tapoas tapoas.sys Sun Jul 11 20:31:59 2010 (4C3A627F)

OpenVPN - Open Source VPN

Update Truecrypt to latest:

Code:
truecrypt truecrypt.sys Tue Feb 07 04:09:36 2012 (4F30EA50)

TrueCrypt - Downloads

...and that should do it.

If issues persist (I do not think they will), then run Driver Fusion in safe mode to clean all ATI/AMD video files and settings (not chipset or anything else!). Reboot and install the latest driver for the video card from AMD's site, normally.

If you need more help, let me know, but like I said - I do not think it will come to that.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I have looked at your solution but encountered the following issues

  • I have the latest Logitech Gaming Software 8.51.5 (dated december 2013) already installed for my G110 Keyboard and G400 Mouse, there's no newer download available.
  • I don't have a Logitech Gamepad, or any for that matter (I think that driver came with the gaming software)
  • I have no idea what the OpenVPN tapoas.sys came with, I know I haven't installed OpenVPN by itself.
  • I have the lastest Truecrypt 7.1a already installed, there's no newer download available.

Should I just go on with the Driver Fusion step?

PS.
The card is indeed very good, as long as my computer isn't crashing :D

Uninstall all Logitech software from the uninstall list. Reboot.

Install from here then: Support + Downloads: Gaming Keyboard G510 - Logitech

New Logitech downloads do not have those old drivers and they do really need to be removed. The above in this post should do it.

Delete this file: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\tapoas.sys

Then open Regedit and navigate to here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services

Find the subkey for tapoas.sys (you might have to look a little, since it could be named differently or as similar to TAP-Windows Adapter V9 - you will see a reference to the tapoas.sys inside the correct one) and delete the subkey.

Reboot.

If necessary, consider removing Truecrypt to test.

I have now took all the steps you posted. I downloaded the Logitech driver from that page and reinstalled it after a reboot, but I'm still 99% sure it's the exact same driver. It might be because my keyboard and mouse are a bit older it still installs older drivers for it (keyboard G110 and mouse G400)

I also uninstalled TrueCrypt for now just to make sure, I don't really use it anyway.

I will get back to you if I get another BSOD or, hopefully, mark this thread as solved if I don't get any after a while.

I'm marking this as solved now. Thanks for your help MasterChief!

What I did besides your advice is upgrade my BIOS, I was 2 versions behind. So if anyone has the same motherboard that might be worth a try.

I have games without crashes three evenings in a row now!
