Hi everyone,

Hopefully I've uploaded everything correctly. I've been having fairly regular problems while playing Skyrim, sometimes BSOD (with different error codes), sometimes freezing, and sometimes crashes that return me to the desktop.

The computer has been reasonably stable otherwise.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Issues surely come from this driver you are using for your game pad. I recommend Logitech Rumblepad II instead. With proper files, it can act like a 360 controller (or live) for any game, and is great and feels great. Update if possible but better to uninstall:

Code:
1: kd> lmvm xusb21
start end module name

Update Apple software that owns this driver:

Uninstall software that owns this driver:

Just to be nice to the system, update Realtek HD Audio Codec driver.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the quick response!

I've updated/removed offending items. Sadly, the program I was using to emulate an Xbox controller (MotionInJoy) may be the culprit, and I've removed it. Found an alternative (Xinput Wrapper), which hopefully will work better. I live in Nairobi, where it's expensive to replace anything electronic, so I'm having to make due with what I have (a PS3 DS3 controller).

I'll see if this improves the situation, and will update this in a few days to mark as solved. Thanks again!

Yup, Motionjoy will do that.

You're welcome.

Hi again,

I've been having trouble off and on since trying to correct the issue the first time, but recently the BSODs have become more frequent.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Only 59 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 70 - 80 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Don't worry about the specific number, it's just important that you have checked and installed any updates that were available.

Please uninstall HotSpotShield - it is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.

C: drive has less than 6% free space, while the D: drive only has about 9% free space. Windows likes 15% free space in order to perform stuff "behind the scenes" without adversely affecting the system's performance. Please free up 15% on ALL hard drives (you can get away with 10% on larger drives and won't notice a large performance penalty)

These devices are disabled in Device Manager:
Anchorfree HSS VPN Adapter ROOT\NET\0001 This device is disabled.
Qualcomm Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30) PCI\VEN_1969&DEV_1083&SUBSYS_06861025&REV_C0\4&381DCE47&0&00E5 This device is disabled.
Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) BTH\MS_BTHPAN\7&506D7C8&0&2 This device is disabled.
Bluetooth Peripheral Device BTHENUM\{CBECAB40-A2C8-4AB3-ADC1-DE0FE95D8600}_LOCALMFG&0000\8&14451175&1&000000000000_00000000 This device is disabled.
As I suggested previously - uninstall the HotSpotShield program. Are the other devices deliberately disabled? If so, please enable them and update the programs that they belong to. Then feel free to disable them again AFTER they've been updated.

There are enough signs here that I have to wonder about this installation. Should this be a pirated copy of Windows, please be aware that we may not be able to fix it (as the hacks that were done to activate it will cause the OS to behave differently than we expect it to). If that's the case, our efforts to help may just waste your time. Secondly, the forum rules prohibit assisting with pirated software - so the topic would be closed if that is the case.

Please provide the MGADiag report according to these instructions (from this post: Product Key Number - Uninstall and Deactivate in Windows - Page 3 - Windows 7 Help Forums ):
To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

Uninstall your Western Digital software. The wdcsam64.sys driver that dates from 2008 is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

Beyond this, please:
- Start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics (start with the video tests - just a hunch on my part).
- If all of the hardware tests pass, then run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings
