Windows 8.1 first cold boot always BSOD at windows loading

    Hi,

Please help. I am at wits end. I have tried with a new harddisk, took out my graphics card, checked my memory, they all seemed fine. My computer always run into a quick BSOD during the first boot and I am unable to see the error message and it restarts back to BIOS followed by a successful boot into windows on the second try. Occasionally, on the second try, it would go into windows repair and say that windows did not start up correctly etc. Normally, once it gets into windows, it would be ok. I did have once that I got a BSOD in windows.

Another interesting point to note is I can circumvent the cold boot crash issue by going to BIOS immediately on boot and exit it. This way, it would normally boot into windows without issues.

I suspect this is due to the on board network card but I cannot be sure. I would appreciate any advice or help on this. This is extremely frustrating as this computer is only 1 week old and I have spent a lot of time troubleshooting it. I have tried uninstalling, cleaning and re-installing the latest network drive.

Please note that the cold boot crash issue does not always generate a mini dump file.

Recently, it has been showing System thread exception not handled.

    Thanks in advance.

Just an update, I turned off Automatic restart and here is what I see on a cold boot:

    Your PC needs to restart.
Please hold down the power button.
    Error Code: 0x00000078
    Parameters:
    0xFFFFFFFFC0000005
    0xFFFFF80352F9444F

    Hi Masterchief,

Thanks. It was already uninstalled. I only have the driver running currently. Those are probably old dumps before it was uninstalled. I am still seeing BSOD on first boot.

The driver IS the issue. Uninstall that and you're good.

    You're welcome.

If you run into any more issues for whatever reason, just post a new crash dump of it.

    Hi Masterchief,

Somehow my cold boot is only showing this and not creating any new dumps! This is the only thing I can see on first boot:

    Your PC needs to restart.
Please hold down the power button.
    Error Code: 0x00000078
    Parameters:
    0xFFFFFFFFC0000005

    0xFFFFF803541E5268
    0xFFFFF803541E4A70

    Any idea why?

So you mean I should uninstall the driver and not use the onboard lan? That is the latest driver available.

    No, no.

I was under the impression that this Killer Bandwidth is some 3rd party application.

If it is really for your actual adapter, then try updating it from here instead: http://www.killergaming.com/support/Downloads

Install latest Java, and let Intel's website scan for update and install whatever it might show.

Keep us updated please with new crash dumps if necessary, or success story.

Update the Realtek Audio driver from Realtek's site if ya can too. (That should get rid of this very old driver: MBfilt64.sys)

    Code:
    0: kd> lmvm MBfilt64
    start end module name
    fffff800`031d7000 fffff800`031e5000 MBfilt64 T (no symbols)
        Loaded symbol image file: MBfilt64.sys

What very well may be the problem, is this: WPRO_41_2001.sys

    Code:
    0: kd> lmvm WPRO_41_2001
    start end module name
    fffff800`0378a000 fffff800`03796000 WPRO_41_2001 T (no symbols)

I'd uninstall the software that owns it. WinPcap was just updated not too long ago. See about using that instead, if you're so inclined.

    WinPcap Download

    Thanks again for the advice.

My lan driver is the latest available from killer gaming. I will go ahead and update my audio driver now.

My first cold boot is alternating between these 2 error messages / BSODs. Somehow, I do not get new dump files. Just these.

    I am not sure why.

Yep. Gotcha. I made a few edits in my previous post that should set things well. See how it goes and we're here.
