New computer with Windows 8.1 - Multiple BSOD

Hi there,

I've recently built a new computer with Windows 8.1 and have been having some BSOD issues. Initially, I was getting a "Kernel_Security_Check_Failure" BSOD about once every day or two. After running MemTest+ (and confirming my RAM was fine), I started reading around online and began thinking it was a driver issue.

At the time, I did have a Belkin Wireless USB adapter which did not have an official driver for Windows 8.1. I had gotten it to work by installing it in Win 7 compatibility mode. So to try and solve the problem, I uninstalled that driver and software, and went to hard-line ethernet. The BSOD's went away for about two days until:

Yesterday I had another crash. Except this time I didn't get a BSOD, but instead just a hard crash to black. When I rebooted I ran the Driver Verifier (after reading about it online), and then did a restart. When it booted back up, it started saying I had a "driver_verifier_detected_violation" BSOD appear, which was pointing to "nvlddmkm.sys". This looks like be some sort of Nvidia driver. I had to boot in safe mode to get back in and turn off driver verifier.

Before going bananas with uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, I figured I'd post my SF diagnostic tool results to see if you guys could see anything else (or to confirm I'm on the right track).

Oh, and I've also had some issues with Corsair Link not reading my H100i water cooler correctly, so I don't know if that could have something to do with it.

I'm sorry that there's been no response to your topic. My work increased my hours for the holiday season, so I haven't had time to respond here.

Please do this (for the black screen stuff):
Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

The memory dumps blamed your video drivers, the first step is to:
- download a fresh set of video drivers from Visual Computing Leadership from NVIDIA
- uninstall the current video drivers
- install the freshly downloaded drivers
- monitor for further BSOD's

Corsair Link is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems. The driver for this program dates from 2008. Please uninstall it to test it (to see if it stops the BSOD's)

Any particular reason that you're not using UEFI/SecureBoot? I find that 8/8.1 systems seem to be much more reliable when using them.

You have at least 5 hard drives. What is the age of your Corsair HX750 Power Supply?

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:

1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD. I usually can't see this info in the reports, so I rely on you to check it.
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to. If involved these should be visible in the memory dump - but it doesn't hurt to check manually.

Are you running Driver Verifier? If so, please turn it off. To do this, open up verifier.exe and select "Delete existing settings", then click on "Finish" and reboot for the settings to take effect.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :
