Win 8.1, 64 bit, multiple BSOD crashes

hi,

i encounter really frequent bsod crashes (3-6 every day) with various errors on my relatively new notebook - Asus G750JH-T4080H. these include:

INTERRUPT_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
TIMER_OR_DPC_INVALID
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and
KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE

any help would be really welcome, thanks.

additional info:
they mostly occur when in windows, browsing the web using firefox. only very seldom they appear during gaming. i also have to admit that i made recent changes to registry (regarding "The server {9BA05972-F6A8-11CF-A442-00A0C90A8F39} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout." errors in event log/viewer") because of another problem (but the bsods were already there before that changes, but maybe not so frequently).

update: just installed the new 8.1 windows updates, 30 minutes later new bsod appeared (uploaded current Diagnostic Tool zip):

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:
1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD. I usually can't see this info in the reports, so I rely on you to check it.
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to. If involved these should be visible in the memory dump - but it doesn't hurt to check manually.

This device has issues in Device Manager:
Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter SWD\IP_TUNNEL_VBUS\TEREDO_TUNNEL_DEVICE This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device.
Right click on it and select "Uninstall", reboot the system and check to see if it remains fixed. If it still has problems, post back for more suggestions.

Killer Network Manager has been known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems.
Please try this:
The Qualcomm Atheros Killer Service/KillerNetManager is known to cause BSOD's. Please follow the workaround instructions here:
First, open the Run dialog (Win + R keys) and type in "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Scroll down and locate the "Qualcomm Atheros Killer Service" and right click on it. Select "Stop"
Right click on it again and this time select "Properties"
In the dropdown box for "Startup type", select "Disabled", then click on the "OK" button at the bottom of the window

Next, open Task Manager (right click on TaskBar and select "Task Manager")
Click on the "More details" dropdown (if present)
Click on the "Startup" tab
Scroll down and locate the "KillerNetManager" entry, right click on it and select "Disable"
There may also be an Install Shield (with the Killer gaming K next to it), if so Right click on it and select "Disable"
Finally, restart the system in order for the changes to take affect.

At times the Killer Network Manager will continue to load. If so, it's usually listed in the MSINFO32...Software Environment...Startup Programs section. If it is, please try this:
It may be that the instructions aren't stopping everything.
In some cases, there's a program running out of the Program Files/Program Files (x86) directory.
"c:\program files\qualcomm atheros\killer network manager\killer~1.exe" (NOTE: killer~1.exe is most likely killernetmanager.exe)
In other cases, there's a program running out of c:\windows\installer\{Long string of letters, numbers, and dashes}\networkmanager.exe_130c27d738f34c89bddf21bcfd74b56d.exe (the long string of letters and numbers may change)

Here's some things to try
1) Please see if there are any entries in the Startup tab of Task Manager that are related to Qualcomm/Atheros/Killer Network Manager (and NOT the card itself) and disable them (please let us know what you find) Be careful as the wrong selection can disable the network card.
2) Check in "msconfig" for any entries that aren't in the Startup tab of Task Manager. Let us know if you find any Qualcomm/Atheros/Killer entries there (we'll disable them differently if they are there).
3) Locate the "c:\program files\qualcomm atheros\killer network manager\killer~1.exe" and rename the .exe to .BAD (the killer~1 is actually a filename that starts with killer and ends with .exe) There will be an error in event viewer, but it'll stop the bugger from loading.
4) Locate the "c:\windows\installer\{Long string of letters, numbers, and dashes}\networkmanager.exe_130c27d738f34c89bddf21bcfd74b56d.exe" entry and rename the .exe to .BAD (the long string of letters and numbers may change)

Just FYI - here are the MSI workaround instructions: MSI USA

Razer Copperhead/Diamondback drivers date from 2006 - way, way too old (and they're known to cause BSOD's)! Uninstall them immediately.
If needed, try newer, Win8.1 compatible drivers AFTER the system is stabilized.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): [DEL] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/DEL] Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012
New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).

Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web.

    Computer type
    Laptop
    System Manufacturer/Model
    Samsung/NP780
    CPU
Came with the laptop (i7 of some sort)
    Motherboard
Pretty sure that it has one, but haven't checked inside the case!
    Memory
upgraded to 12 gB from 8 gB
    Graphics Card(s)
has switchable - Intel/ATI - Used wrong drivers, now ATI card is inop :( Will have to fix it soon!
    Sound Card
I'm nearly deaf, so this isn't used often
    Monitor(s) Displays
Touchscreen on laptop/32" Toshiba on HDMI (laid the Sharp TV on a mouse and cracked the screen!)
    Screen Resolution
    800x600
    Hard Drives
One Samsung 1tB drive - 5400 rpm. Gonna switch to a 7200/10000 rpm or an SSD (if I can find $500 for a 1tB SSD!)
    - Switched to 500 gB Samsung 840 series SSD - WOW!!!
    PSU
Why do we ask this for laptops?
    Case
Silver with a neat Samsung logo
    Cooling
sub-par, gotta get around to working on it soon Worked on it - still sub-par! :(
    Keyboard
Microsoft Natural - the same one I've used since it orignally came out around 1995
    Mouse
    no Mouse - Trackball!!!!
    Internet Speed
too slow when I'm waiting for a download to finish

Yes, I use this (Firefox mostly, w/IE next most)
    Antivirus
    Windows Defender and Windows Firewall
    Other Info
    I'm handsome and a snappy dresser :0)
thank you for your help, absolutely no need to be sorry :)
i tried your suggestions and here are the results:

i took care of the Killer Network Manager. it is not longer starting/booting.

i uninstalled peerblock with Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features. when i search C:\ (OS) there is no pbfilter.sys (anymore).

i uninstalled deamon tools with Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features. when i search C:\ (OS) there is no dtsoftbus01.sys (anymore). (the downloaded sptd uninstall program could not uninstall spdt (it was grayed out) i guess because i never had spdt installed - only softbus)

i uninstalled all razor drivers. (after first attempting to update to newer ones what turned out to be a very bad idea. i should have listened more carefully to your advice ^^ system crashed very often during install/uninstall procedure of old/new razor drives with the KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE error, so i hope that this was a big part of the problems! i did a system restore to before i installed the new razor drivers and then uninstalled the previous one. now everything of razor is completely gone.

i can't find aicharger anywhere on my system (searched whole OS disk, i think i already uninstalled it a while ago). if it is still on my system i have no idea where it could be.

the Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter keeps returning after uninstallation and rebooting and is still broken (yellow ! mark).

im not sure about my ssd. becuase my system is a relatively new notebook i think it should have installed some recent ssd drivers (as it is the main drive included in the notebook). if i try "update drivers" from device manager it says that the drivers are up to date. and i cant find any dr'ivers in google/bing for the ssd. also, devicemanager calls it LITEONIT LCS-256M6S (but the following notebook review says it should supposed to be a LMT-256M6S): Review Update Asus G750JH-T4080H Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews . To still try something, i did a bios update to the most current version.

i think the rrwd0002.sys and rrau0002.sys driver is part of following roland fa-66 driver which is for windows 8 and windows 8.1 (but of course i am not sure about that): EDIROL FA-66 Driver Ver.1.0.0 ... :: FA-66 :: Downloads :: Support :: Roland - if it is part of that driver, i can not uninstall it as i need this device for work. its the one single device i really need :) i cant find any other/direct sources for these drivers.

i did a new scan with the utility.

further help is very welcome :)

Nice work! It looks like the only thing left to update is this:

After that we just wait and see if the BSOD's return

the intel drivers installed without problems. but i don't know what they should do/fix :). should this fix the broken teredo adapter? if so, the teredo tunneling adapter is still broken. should i try to install different versions of this intel drivers or should they work if they install correctly?

Which link did you use for the Intel drivers?
I asked you to update them as I've seen them cause issues with Win8.1 installations
It's a feature that allows you to manage the BIOS features from within Windows (more technical stuff to be found here: Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT) Start Here Guide (Intel AMT 9.0) | Intel® Developer Zone )

As for the Teredo adapter, try:
- download a fresh copy of the latest, Win8.1 compatible network drivers (both wired and wireless
- uninstall the current wired and wireless drivers from your system (and the Teredo driver too)
- install the freshly downloaded drivers
- monitor for further problems with the Teredo driver

i installed the intel drivers from both, your first and then your second link - both worked, just wanted to see if it changes anything if i try different versions. i have not tried the intel drivers from yout third and 4th link.

i updated my lan, wlan and bluetooth drivers. i think the bluetooth causes problems: as i tested the new bluetooth drivers my system crashed with a bsod (KMODE or KERNEL, don't remember). in the devicemanager two new bluetooth devices appeared, one broken bluetooth device (Personal Area Network) and also a working one (RFCOMM Protocol TDI). if i disable bluetooth (via charms) both of these devices get invisible in the device manager and the broken mark is removed).

i also noticed something: as soon as my brother turned off his windows7 computer which is in the same network as my notebook and i restarted my system, the teredo adapter did not launch in the device manager (it is invisible and not broken).

update:

i just got another two bsod, each occuring 3 minutes after startup - one KMODE and one IRQL. they occured after all above fixes and with bluetooth disabled and no teredo driver running. i did another scan with the tool.

The Roland drivers at this link ( EDIROL FA-66 Driver Ver.1.0.0 ... :: FA-66 :: Downloads :: Support :: Roland ) date from 2012 and are supposed to be Win8/8.1 compatible. Your Roland drivers date from 2009. Try reinstalling the newer Roland drivers.

In the event that they don't update, you'll either have to discuss the problem with Roland - or you'll have to temporarily remove the device and it's driver for long enough to see if they are causing the BSOD's (a couple/three days most likely).

I consider updating the Roland drivers to be critical to solving this.
If the BSOD's continue after updating them, then we have to start looking at hardware issues. I suggest starting with these free diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

thanks again!

i reinstalled the above linked roland drivers (after i uninstalled them because as i already had this version installed) to see if the driver date changes. but it does not. windows explorer and the driver properties window in windows show that the rrau0002.sys and rrwd0002.sys files are dated 2012, but when i run the utility and look into the DriverList.txt it says these .sys files are dated 2009. i did a screenshot of this and attached it to this post. so just out of curiosity, please can you tell me who tells the truth? i think the utility does so i followed your suggestion and uninstalled the roland drivers completely (the screenshot was taken before i uninstalled them).

now i will wait as you suggested and see if more bsods occur. if they don't i will contact roland about this problem. big thanks again for your help :)

I don't know how significant this is, but please look at the Date Modified date - it's from 2012

I think that:
1) ArchWave designed this driver (created it) in 2009
2) Roland got this driver from ArchWave
3) Roland modified the driver (hence the Date Modified date) in 2012

This would be a question to ask Roland - as I have no clue about what they did in 2012 (which is before Win8.1 came out).

i removed the roland drivers... the bsods sadly continue. i did another check with the utility.

i did check my memory with the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool (7 passes, extended mode) and it reported "no errors". i could not get memtest86 running becuase my notbook always booted windows instead of memtest even when secure boot was disabled.

i would like to mention this post i found on the web where someone has a very similar notebook and maybe a
similar problem: G750jx bsod
he said he upgraded his initial windows 8 notebook ram (as did i) and then the bsods started -> but all his
memtest reports say the ram has no errors (and windows 7 can handle them with no errors). so i will try what he
did, removing the extra ram i bought and look if the bsods go away.

any other suggestions i could try?

Running bootable diagnostics on UEFI systems is a real pain. In most cases you have to disable SecureBoot, then enable some sort of legacy mode. It's easier to use other tests (in most cases)

Try running Prime95 to test your RAM: Hardware Diagnostics
The Blend test is the one that stresses the RAM the most.

Run Driver Verifier according to these instructions to see if we can force it to name a driver: Driver Verifier Settings

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web.

i did the driver verifier test and it crashed really often within a minute after booting, sometimes even before i could login into windows.

the bsod said:

Please:
- download a fresh copy of the latest, Win8.1 compatible driver for your wired network connection from the manufacturer's website. DO NOT use a Win8 compatible version - ONLY a Win8.1 compatible version.
- uninstall the current version of the wired network card from your system
- install the freshly downloaded driver
- monitor for further BSOD's

In the event that you are not able to locate a Win8.1 compatible driver, I suspect that it's not compatible with Win8.1
As such the test would be to uninstall the drivers for the wired network connection and then to disable the wired network card in the UEFI/BIOS. If this stops the BSOD's, then you'll be sure that it is the compatibility of the wired network card.

From what I was able to find here: Qualcomm Atheros :: Corporate :: Customer Portal
This card does not have a version that's confirmed to be compatible with Win8.1
As such, your alternatives may be limited:
- try an add-on network card (and disable the current network card in the UEFI/BIOS)
- or, revert back to Win8

i uninstalled and disabled the wired lan drivers in windows and then disabled the wired network card in bios (the wlan is still enabled and working). this step helped a lot because my system did not crash anymore within a minute after booting (when driver verifier was running). just to be sure i continued running driver verifier trought the night. it crashed 8 hours after booting with another error.

whocrashed program reported: crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\122213-35437-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: verifierext.sys (VerifierExt+0x12487)
Bugcheck code: 0xC4 (0x9200F, 0xFFFFF80000361C50, 0xFFFFE00004E90CC0, 0xFFFFE00004E90D58)
Error: DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION

i did another scan with the utility.

just uploading a new SF_Diagnostic_Tool scan.

also want to mention that i have noticed something: when driver verifier is running and i do a "grab all" system scan with the SF_Diagnostic_Tool there is a reproducable bsod. it always crashes exactly at the moment when SF_Diagnostic_Tool opens the "refreshing system information" window and there reaches the part where it gets to "windows error reporting" - shortly after that a bsod occurs. the latest 3 crash dumps in the uploaded zip file are exactly this crashes.

thanks again for the many helt and merry xmas :)

Sorry for the delay in responding - I'm working more hours for this holiday so I don't have much free time.

Please turn Driver Verifier off. To do this, open up verifier.exe and select "Delete existing settings", then click on "Finish" and reboot the system for the changes to take effect.

Just to be sure, please remove your video drivers, then update them to the latest available, Win8.1 compatible drivers.

it's been a while and i happily can report: no crashes anymore. after removing all those old drivers i still got some crashes (but not that much as before) so i decided to do a little ram switching a user here suggested. after that i had no crashes anymore for 5 days now :) i also want to note that the earlier discussed roland drivers are safe and work, they are running the whole time now since 5 days and no crashes :) thank you very much again for your help!
