Hi,

I need some help with bsods on Windows 8.1 OS. I'm not sure but probably there is my fault that this happens. I have Lenovo Y580 and a few months ago I updated my bios to version 5DCN40WW(v2.07), i downloaded it from Lenovo support website (in this time i got windows 7), then i decide to run Windows 8, but this bios was purposed for Windows 7 and now i cant find 'actualization' to my old bios wich was purposeed to Windows 8, I'm looking for version 5DCN89WW of bios to this Lenovo. Now I have 2-3 bsods a day, even after format, I've updated my drivers using SlimDrivers and downloaded actual drivers from Intel website,on the Intel website I had an information that product has been detected as Kontroler Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30) but this device is unknown or unsupported (current driver:2.1.0.16) and same thing with Audio Driver for Intel Desktop Board, product detected: Sound Bluetooth (current driver: 12.0.0.2951).

I did memtest86:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7166435/html/MemTest86-Report-20131207-032101.html

And this is scr from Crystal Disk Info:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7166435/disk.jpg

And at the end there are .dmp files:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7166435/SF_11-12-2013.zip

If anyone could help me I'll be very grateful and maybe there is any chance that someone who has Lenovo Y580 can copy for me newest bios and post here? Laptop was in service but they didn't fix this issue and they didn't restore my old bios, probably support doesn't have it, i can't find it on Lenovo support website.

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!

AFAIK, you have the latest BIOS for your system.
Here's a link to it: BIOS Update for Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - IdeaPad Y480, Y580

Out of 17 memory dumps there were 7 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers)
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): [DEL] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/DEL] Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012
New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
Alternate link: Disk-Tools.com
Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

LhdX64.sys Mon Jan 11 10:06:58 2010 (4B4B3E92)
Lenovo HD Disk Driver
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=LhdX64.sys

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics. Let us know the results and we can move on from there.

Thank you very much for replay. First of all my comuper was in service and they did all those hardware test you linked me, they didnt find any hardware problem. I was trying to update drivers, but in 1 week i installed and uninstalled so much stuff that i decide to another format, those bsods occur about 2-3 days after format, I noticed that it always happens when i plug in my external monitor by HDMI. I installed Windows 7 to check if bsod will occur again and of course it happend.
.dmp files:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7166435/SF_19-12-2013.zip

My monitor model: LG Flatron ips236v.
I think important information is that I get this bsods less times on Windows 7 then on Windows 8 so maybe just I don't have good support for this laptop for Windows 8, specialy if Lenoco can't update drivers on his support webpage.

I would like to come back on Windows 8 but probably work with this system is impossible for now.

This still looks like hardware to me. That it does it both with Win7 and Win8 is the clue for this.
It is possibly:
- the video card
- the HDMI port on your laptop
- the HDMI cable
- the Flatiron monitor

1) Try plugging in the HDMI cable without it being attached to the monitor and see if the BSOD recurs
2) Try another HDMI cable and see if the BSOD recurs
3) Try another monitor and see if the BSOD recurs

This will help to isolate where the problem is.
If it still BSOD's after these tests, then the problem is with the laptop

You can also run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings
This will also help to rule out other causes (like 3rd party drivers).

So in all this time i was testing if i'll get any bsod using HDMI, first i plugged in only HDMI cable and no bsod occur, then I plugged in my TV by HDMI and no bsod again, then I plugged in my monitor to the other computer and no bsod occur, so I decided to come back for Windows 8 and after installation I did Driver Verifier, I didn't get bsod after reboot but after some minutes while i was using chrome i got some black squares on the screen (only when browser was maximized) and then Windows lanuched again without any bsod information.
Maybe there is one more important information, I'm playing from time to time Aion and while i was using TV by HDMI i got crash in the game but no bsod occur, when i was using my monitor i always got bsod playing this game.

IMO the black squares are a symptom of a hardware problem with one of the things I discussed in my previous post.

Both memory dumps blame the Intel graphics drivers - but there are 2 different BSOD error codes. I still think that this is symptomatic of a hardware problem. You can try and update the Intel Graphics drivers to the latest, Win8.1 compatible version. As you have a very recent version (Dec of 2013), it may be that you'll have to replace the drivers (instead of updating them). To do this:
- download a fresh set of the drivers
- uninstall the current drivers
- install the freshly downloaded drivers

Also, here's a link on how to troubleshoot one of the BSOD codes that you had: Video TDR Timeout - 0x116 + 0x117 - Sysnative Forums

Well I didn't want to belive myself that I have problems with hardware but it seems so... I started to make some tests, today I run OCCT and 2 tests: CPU:OCCT and CPU:LINPACK and I got some error in 2nd test,
this is a result of it:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7166435/2014-01-07.zip

After this error I read that CPU linpak test can fail and I use Intel Burn In and I had an error only when I tick Stress Level:Maximum, rest passed without any error,
files:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7166435/results-[1-7-2014]-[17473].zip

I will make rest 2 test for GPU from OCCT and FurMark (I didn't notice if I can write resulte to file) test and post it here.
My question is if I should or even must send laptop to service? Or can do something with it at home? Because as I said in first post laptop was in service, I said them about bsods and problem with laptop but according to test they did (no idea what) there wasn't any hardware issue.

I suspect that there is a problem with the CPU. I would contact them and let them know the results of your testing. See what they have to say - and what they promise to do.

There is no 100% effective software test to test the hardware on your motherboard. Programs like PC-Check and QA-Win32 are good programs, but are limited in their ability to isolate hardware problems. To this day the most effective "tool" is a competent technician who doggedly tracks down problems one-by-one. Even then we can't say with 100% certainty

I skipped the 2 dumps from 07 Jan as I presume things will have changed when Lenovo worked on the system.

3rd party drivers in the stack seem limited to those related to the HDD/NTFS file system.
And, the Lenovo HD disk driver (LhdX64.sys) is outdated (it dates from January of 2010).
Please attempt to find an updated version - or a safe way to remove it (if you just delete it, your system may not boot to Windows).

I'm late for work, will try to get back for more later on today.

For what it's worth, the driver Lhdx64.sys has stood out to me on numerous machines as being the last possible software culprit possible. I'm not so sure that it is part of Energy Management download, but if you know something about it more than I, then more power to ya.

I've been suggesting that people contact Lenovo support to get it updated, and I have yet to hear back from a single one that needed more help.

Perhaps Usasma and I are onto something with that driver. In any case, he has done extremely well for you in this thread already.

If you are of a mind to perform an experiment, we can try removing the driver to see if that helps.
Please be advised that doing so could render your system unbootable.
We'll take appropriate precautions to ensure you can recover from this - but be sure to back up your system before trying it.

Here's how:
1) Create a Restore Point using System Restore
2) Create a Repair disc (Recovery Drive in Win8.1):
Win 7 - Go to Start...All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc
Win 8 - Press "WIN" and "R" to open the Run dialog...type "RECDISC" (without the quotes) and press ENTER
Win 8.1 - Go to the Start Screen and type in "recoverydrive" (one word, without the quotes). That will start the recovery drive process. You will need a USB drive of at least 512 mB - and all data will be erased off of it.
3) Test the System Repair disc/Recovery Drive to make sure that you can get to the System Restore entry when you boot from the disk/drive (you may also want to try actually using System Restore to make sure that it works)
4) Download this free program (Autoruns for Windows) and use it to disable any instances of Lhdx64.sys that are starting (or any other Lenovo HD Disk Driver entries) (DO NOT DELETE - only disable by removing the checkmark in the left hand column)
5) Check in Device Manager (to include showing hidden devices from the View menu item) and ensure that any instances of Lhdx64.sys (or any other Lenovo HD Disk Driver entries) are "Uninstalled" (DO NOT DISABLE THESE).
6) Check in the Services applet (services.msc) to be sure any instances of Lhdx64.sys or any other Lenovo HD Disk Driver entries are disabled.
7) Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename the Lhdx64.sys driver to Lhdx64.BAD (search the hard drive for it if it's not in C:\Windows\System32\drivers).

In the event that the system doesn't boot:

1) Boot from the System Repair disc/Recovery Drive and use the Command Prompt option to rename Lhdx64.BAD to Lhdx64.sys
Code:
ren C:\Windows\System32\drivers\Lhdx64.BAD C:\Windows\System32\drivers\Lhdx64.sys
2) Boot from the System Repair disc/Recovery Drive and use the System Restore option to restore the system to a point before the changes were made.

Good luck!

Should the system boot successfully without the driver, run it for a while (several weeks) to see if the BSOD returns.
If it doesn't boot successfully, then you'll have to use the recovery procedure in the above instructions.

I'm working now without any bsod so probably all your advices help me, I'm realy grateful for your interest and help. Probably in a few weeks will be clear if there is any extra problem, so the thread has been exhausted. Again thank you very much.

Did you remove the Lhdx64.sys driver as I suggested above?
Do you think that it was the source of your problem?
I'm happy that you are no longer having problems!

Well I was trying to get any information from Lenovo Support about this driver, unfortunalty I got only 1 link from some Comunity Moderator Malware scan of lhdx64.sys (Disk Driver) ab35ce3335ba8bc7b49fc9c81b1e6a852fe853b0 - herdProtect
I didnt get any information how to update it or remove or with what application it is installing. I was thinking about uninstalling all drivers and check if this one is still the part of a system, anyway I had 1 more bsod a few days ago so maybe good thing is to do some experiment uninstall all, then install 1 by 1 (maybe I'll be able to discover what is installing this one driver) and after this just format c: :D

Be careful removing drivers - it can render your system unbootable.
Follow my instructions above in order to safely remove any drivers.
Good luck!
