BSOD , mostly using chrome or gaming

    Hey there!

I'm facing BSODs on my system.
It mostly appears when I'm using Chrome, especially using Youtube or any flash applications (like games on Facebook). In games it also crashes from time to time (e.g. Assasins Creed 4).
Programs for controlling the fan of my R9-280x lead to crashes a lot, I deleted those already (e.g. Sapphire Trixx).

    My system:

    Windows 8 - 64 bit
    8 GB RAM
    Sapphire Vapor-X R9-280x graphics
    Intel i5 4670K
Samsung SSD 840 pro Evo (I already checked this one and optimized it, but this didn't do the trick).

nothing is overclocked, temps should be fine.

I hope you guys can help me

    Thanks in advance,
    Bartus49

    Hi

Please start with diagnosing the system RAM first. You can use the free tool "Memtest86+" to stress test the RAM.

How to run "Memtest" - RAM - Test with Memtest86+ - Windows 7 Help Forums

Make sure you are using the latest version 5.01 - Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

You can stop the test even if a single error is found during the test. Otherwise continue the test for 7-10 passes and post a screenshot with next reply. 7 passes is the recommended bare minimum but more passes will give better result.

I ran Memtest, no errors were found as you can see on the attached pic. I further ran chckdisc on my hdds but there weren't any errors, too. Well that's good but doesn't solve anything :/

    Hi

Since the "Memtest" didn't catches any errors, let's hope the RAM modules are fine (some errors are undetectable in "Memtest") . Please follow the following steps.

    1. Update SSD firmware (if not already done).

How to Upgrade Samsung SSD Firmware | StorageReview.com - Storage Reviews

    Samsung Magician software : http://www.samsung.com/global/busine...ician_v421.zip

    2. A "Speccy" snapshot of your system.

"Speccy" will collect in depth details of your hardware which is required for further troubleshooting. Please read this guide - Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - Internet Applications Mini-Guides and post the web link displayed by "Speccy" in next reply.

    Hi

Only essential peripheral drivers are installed on your system and all of them are up to dated. So i still suspects a low level hardware issue here.

    Please try the below steps.

    1. Reset BIOS and load optimal default values.

How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS)

This is to make sure both CPU and RAM are running on default frequency and voltage values. Currently, XMP is enabled which will auto overclock the RAM. This may create BSOD issues in some configurations so make sure it id disabled after loading default values.

    2. If the BSOD continues, run "Prime95" stability test.

Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 - Windows 7 Help Forums

Choose "SmallFFT" test and also select "Round off Checking" from "Advanced" menu (read reply #1). Run the test for 3-4 hours and upload the "Result.txt" file it creates with next reply.

Okay, I loaded the optimized default in BIOS. But XMP was disabled there, I've reset it anyways.

I'll try to reproduce the BSODs today. When they persist I'll run Prime95 and post the results here.

Well I ran Prime95 for an hour, no problems or errors there. I know it should run for 3-4 hours, but I didnt have the time for that today.

What I actually discovered: Chrome has an option for starting the browser in win8-style. So it looks like the IE then. I tried java applications and youtube In that mode and did NOT have any BSODs till now! Or the reset of bios did the trick, I don't know

So thanks a lot for your support!

When I encounter another BSOD I'll be back here
