hey guys. i recently got a new laptop. installed the OS, installed the drivers, everything is working fine except:

the first time i turn the laptop on, it gives me the error "kernel_data_inpage_error", then it either turns itself off(at which point it works normally when i turn it back on) or restarts itself(which also makes it work normally)

here is a video of it happening:

i am sure you will need more info so please let me know how to give that to you.

Hello DJLO, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Please read the instructions here: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions, and post back with the needed information. One of our BSOD experts should be by afterwards to further help.

The video you linked to is marked at "private" and is not displaying. You'll need to mark it as "public" there to be seen. :)

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!

Run the hard drive diagnostic first ( Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure ). There's no sense in doing the rest of the stuff if the hard drive is dying (as you'll have to get a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system). Good luck!

Only 95 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 150 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:
1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD. I usually can't see this info in the reports, so I rely on you to check it.
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to. If involved these should be visible in the memory dump - but it doesn't hurt to check manually.

Please install the drivers for this device:
Not Available ACPI\PNPC000\1 The drivers for this device are not installed.
This device is most likely the Insyde Airplane Mode HID Mini-Driver. Be sure that you get a driver that's compatible with Win8

Errors in the WER section of MSINFO32 point at NT Status of 0xc0000185. This is "
[FONT=&amp]STATUS_IO_DEVICE_ERROR". One of the possibilities here is that the hard drive is dying - and the memory dumps tend to confirm this. Please run a hard drive test using this procedure: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

from what i can tell, the issue was casued by my os being on the ssd.

also one last thing: is this forum officially recognized by microsoft? it is so much more helpful than any of their official help pages or forums.

do you guys get paid for this? because you totally should, you guys rock if you do this for free.

I'm glad to hear that you've fixed it!

Microsoft recognizes this place as one of the many sites that offers help for Windows users - and Microsoft does have a couple of programs that recognize outstanding contributions in the privately owned forums (like this one).

We're all volunteers here and there's no pay involved. Some get recognized by Microsoft for their contributions - and either get the Microsoft Community Contributer Award (MCCA) or the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional award (MVP).

Info on the MCCA program is here: https://www.microsoftcommunitycontributor.com/faq.aspx
Info on the MVP program is here: MVP Award Homepage
