    WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR on new system

Hi there, I've been having an issue with a computer I bought in September. I've been getting WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR BSOD's ever since a few days after I received my computer from the USA. I don't really want to return it, because I live in Canada, and to ship it back would cost me another $100. So I want to see if I can maybe get some help, and fix the issue.

The BSOD's are really quite random it seems. I can go a few days without seeing a BSOD, then I can see two or three in a day. I have been working around it, but it's still really inconvenient to randomly crash in the middle of a game. They seem to happen when I'm playing games, but it can be hours before it will BSOD (if it does at all).

I've already ran the windows diagnostic tool, that came up clean. I updated my LAN, chipset, audio, and USB drivers, have gotten as many windows updates as I can, and updated my video card drivers.

I'm not exactly technical with computers, so I'm pretty much at a loss with what to do next. I appreciate any help. Thanks.

    Hi

What you are experiencing is STOP 0x124 which is generally caused by hardware reasons.

    Code:
    BugCheck 124, {0, ffffe000025fd028, bf800000, 124}

    Probably caused by : GenuineIntel
Full details of your system configuration is needed to troubleshoot your issue. Easy way to collect that is run "Speccy" and post the snapshot of your system. Please read instructions from the below link and post the web link displayed by 'Speccy" in next reply.

    Hi

A STOP 0x124 means CPU detected a fatal hardware error and thus called bugcheck functions to prevent data loss. Usually this error is caused by one of the below reasons.

    • Overclocking
    • Overheating
    • BIOS bugs
    • Failing CPU/Motherboard etc

Although it can also be caused by software reasons, your CPU seems to be overclocked and i suspect that is the root cause.

    Code:
    Core 0Core Speed: 4099.8 MHz
    Multiplier: x 41.0
    Bus Speed: 100.0 MHz
    Temperature: 32 C
    Thread 1
    APIC ID: 0
    Core 1
    Core Speed: 4099.8 MHz
    Multiplier: x 41.0
    Bus Speed: 100.0 MHz
    Temperature: 30 C
    Thread 1
    APIC ID: 2
    Core 2
    Core Speed: 4099.8 MHz
    Multiplier: x 41.0
    Bus Speed: 100.0 MHz
    Temperature: 32 C
    Thread 1
    APIC ID: 4
    Core 3
    Core Speed: 4099.8 MHz
    Multiplier: x 41.0
    Bus Speed: 100.0 MHz
    Temperature: 30 C
    Thread 1
    APIC ID: 6
So our first step is nothing but to disable the overclock and let the system to work on default frequency and voltage settings. To do that, please reset the system BIOS and load "Optimal default values".

How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS)

Then rerun "Speccy" and make sure the CPU is working around "3400 MHz" at idle stage. Your CPU came with turbo boost capability and it will automatically boost it's speed up to 3.9 Ghz under load.

Let us know how the system works after disabling the OC.

Edit: I found "Load optimized defaults" and activated it. Now the core speeds seem to be fluctuating a lot. They are as low as 800MHz, and go up to 3800MHz, when I'm doing nothing more than viewing this webpage, which I assume is pretty close to idling.

    Hi

New "Speccy" looks clean. The fluctuating core speed is what i expected and it is perfectly normal. CPU will adjust it speed on demand. Now test the system by doing the tasks which generally leads to the BSOD (gaming ?. Report how the system works.

Alright, it's been about two months and it's been smooth sailing, no BSODs. That is, until today. I was only on google chrome when I got a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR bluescreen again for the first time since november. My overclocking is still reset.

    My speccy right now:
